Title: Walking
Author:
ceartas
Pairing: BB/DM
Rating: G for general schmoopiness
Summary: Billy and Dom go for a walk
Feedback: Makes me feel warm and squishy, like hot cocoa on a cold winter's day.
A/N: Sorry, tis un-beta'd this time around, so please let me know if I goofed somewhere.
If walking in silence is meant to be frigid, then surely I’ll freeze to death. If walking in silence is meant to be wearisome then surely I’ll have calluses on my feet. If walking in silence is meant to be unforgiving, then surely I’ll die unloved. If walking in silence is meant to be solitary, then surely I’ll always be alone. If walking in silence means being close to you, then surely I’ll take my chances.

You said it was cold outside and I ought to wear my scarf. I asked whether I should take the fuzzy greenish brown one or the bright yellow knit and you told me it didn’t matter, as long as I grabbed one. I guess I took too long because you left without me and I ran out the front door, yelling for you to wait.
I didn’t have a scarf.
You stopped to wait for me, as I gasped for breath and clutched my side. You shook your head, knocked me upside mine and tied your bright red woollen scarf around my neck. I heard you mutter something under your breath that sounded like “stupid git” but there was a smile in your voice so I forgot about it.
We walked for a long time, neither of us speaking. They say that silence is golden, but I don’t agree. Gold seems like something unattainable and when we’re alone, we never say a word. Our silence is like green grass after a summer rain shower. It happens all the time but there’s always something new and refreshing about it.
I snuck a peek at you out of the corner of my eye. That’s the best way to see you, when you’re not looking. Because then I see who you really are. Your hands were in your coat pockets, like usual and your nose was starting to turn red from the chill in the air. I suggested that we turn back, it would be dark soon. You said not yet, it was nice out here.
We kept walking and it began to snow tiny flakes that melted as soon as they touched down. I held out my mittened hand to catch them, but trying to catch a snowflake can be like trying to hold a sunbeam. Instead I closed my eyes and let them fall like icy needles on my tongue. I didn’t notice that you had stopped until I felt something hit my back and explode. I turned around and you stood there, an impish grin on your pixie face and a devilish glint in your emerald eyes.
Let’s go home, you said and I nodded. You held your hand to me and I clasped it greedily. I’ll make cocoa and you can start a fire? you asked and I nodded again, loath to tread upon our silence, making it impure.
As you opened the door and stepped through, you turned back to smile at me. Don’t forget your scarf next time, Dom.
I won’t.

Hehehe, I love that pic in your icon. Except Lij's silly scarf. Some people ::coughDomcough:: can wear silly scarves and look cool...and others ::coughLijcough:: wear silly scarves and just look silly. Heh.
