Author: The Phantom Writer [livejournal.com profile] silentnumbsmoke
Pairing: DM/BB
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: *sigh* Neither the hobbits nor the elf are mine, unfortunately. Damn, I wish I had Dom.
Feedback: Pretty please?
Warning: Angst; deals with suicide.
Notes: This fic not only has Dom/Billeh, but Orli and Lijah play pretty big roles as well. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] airlia_vega for beta-ing! You may want to read Part 1 and Part 2 before reading this!
Wow... Only one part left after this! It feels strange!

Part III

“Dominic…”

Blue-gray eyes raised guiltily. Cocked eyebrows and narrowed green eyes were the response.

Billy’s hand snaked over to intertwine his fingers with Dom’s, giving it a slight tug. “Dominic,” he repeated sternly.

With a deep sigh, Dom tore his wandering fingers from the itching bandage wrapped around his left wrist. “It itches, Bill,” he pouted softly.

“Stop scratching; it’ll stop itching,” Billy advised. “C’mon, you know that the only way you got out of the hospital tonight was ‘cause I promised that I’d watch you like a hawk. Now, what kind of hawk would I be if I let you scratch your stitches out?”

Dom wrinkled his nose. “Wanker,” he replied with a cheeky smile.

Glancing at the two through the rear view mirror, Orlando couldn’t help but smile. “Geez, d’you two ever stop bickering?”

Dom and Billy looked at one another with raised eyebrows then turned their gaze toward Orlando. “Hey Orli,” Dom started. “Sod off,” he and Billy finished together.

Orlando grinned at the banter before he pulled into Dom’s driveway and killed the engine.

“C’mon, Dom,” Elijah spoke as they crawled out of the car. “Let’s get in there and you should probably take a nap or something.”

Dom leaned against the car and raised an eyebrow at his young friend. Billy and Orlando exchanged amused looks. “Lijah,” Dom started, licking his lips, his left hand rubbing his other wrist absently, “how long after this incident, d’ya’ think, are you going to treat me like a bloody infant?”

Elijah’s eyes widened, looking around at his friends innocently. “Didn’t that doc say you should take it easy?”

“That was my newly assigned psychologist, Lij, and he wanted me to try and not think about all the things that made me…” He glanced down, catching his hands rubbing his bandaged wrists. “… Well, y’know.” He sighed, uncomfortable with the subject. “I have my first session with him tomorrow. We’ll be doing plenty of talking and I’ll be doing plenty of pondering about all of those fucking subjects, so… really, I’d like to take his advice and not think about it yet. So,” Dom began to advance upon poor Elijah with a half smile, “yes, I suppose I could take a nap, as you said, to keep my mind off of it.

“But,” he paused, “have you ever noticed how, when you’re lying there, your eyes closed to the seemingly real world around you, that’s when the world that you hate, the world that is more of a reality than this world,” he gestured to the surrounding neighborhood, “the world we know, could ever be, comes to life? When I’m lying there, that’s when I want to die more than anything else. Because, when I’m trying to get to sleep, what the fuck else am I going to do or think about? This night will be the first in a long time when I don’t fall asleep thinking about ways to end my life. And, at this moment, I’m happy about that. Life is a great treasure, and I don’t plan on losing it, especially not by my hand.” He glanced over at Billy, who was listening silently, before turning back to Elijah. “Yet…” His speech slowed considerably, each word thought out before escaping his chapped lips. “If I lay down to sleep at any time before I know I’m about to pass out, then my mind will still be plagued with these… these bloody thoughts. Thoughts I have no control over. I can’t stop them from invading my mind and taking control.

“Therefore,” he said, straightening up and sending Elijah an attempted care-free smile, “my plan is to stay up teasing you, joking with Orlando, and snogging with my Billeh. Then, once I’m exhausted (“and I’m sure Billy will exhaust me quickly,” he muttered, glancing at a blushing Billy), I’m going to fall straight to sleep, and wake up tomorrow ready for my first session in being cured.” Dominic sent Elijah a smile. “That okay?”

Elijah couldn’t help but stutter. “Y-yeah…” After a moment, he regained his bearings and smiled as well.

“C’mon, you rambler, let’s go inside.” Orlando spoke, pushing Dom towards the house.

“Rambler… Sheesh. I just had a point to get out, you wanker.”

“I’m sure you did,” Billy agreed, taking Dom’s hand.

Billy and Orli exchanged looks, smiles growing on their faces. Because, as everyone knows, smiles are contagious.
