Summary; Why Billy likes birthdays the most.
Rating; PG, maybe... G, even.
Warnings; Very quickly written?
Note; Oh, I couldn't help myself. But I literally wrote this in.. fifteen minutes? I haven't posted a Monaboyd here since April, and I decided why not start again for Billy's birthday? Of course, it isn't wonderful or one of my best, because, like I said, written quickly.

Billy doesn’t dislike birthdays. He doesn’t mind getting older, he likes the fuss made over him, and he likes the presents and the well-wishers and the attention. He likes the balloons and the silly pointy hats and confetti that his friends have bought from the nearest party store. He likes the mingled sounds of laughter coming from the next room as he makes sure there’s enough liquor and coffee and cake and crisps for everyone.
Most of all, he likes that Dom’s there in the next room with the rest of them. He loves that Dom and Elijah have both taken time out of their busy LA-type-life to find themselves here, in Billy’s little house. He likes that the biggest surprise was not the party, because really he’d been on to Ali since the beginning, but it was Dom showing up on his doorstep with more presents than luggage. It was Dom showing up on his doorstep and dropping all of said packages so that he could throw his arms around Billy and sing “For He’s A Jolly Good Feller” Dom-style as loud as he could.
It’s this that makes Billy happiest of all, the sound of Dom’s laugh ringing loudest above all of his other friends. Just the fact that Dom’s there, it makes Billy wish he could just have more birthdays so Dom would drop everything and visit more often.
Because the visits have been ridiculously sparse.
He fusses with the tea longer than need-be, just so he can have a moment of quiet to himself, just so he can listen to the voices in the other room. He knows that if he stays just a minute longer they’ll notice he’s gone, but for this moment he’s safe to just reflect. Dom and Elijah discuss “Rings” stories with Billy’s older, Scottish friends and Billy’s thinking about his life. His entire life. Because at the same time his sister is remembering things Billy did when they were younger, and Dom’s trying to top her stories with his own. Billy’s not sure which one of them knows him better. Above them he can hear Ali’s giggling, which then turn to squeals of laughter at some of Dom’s more explicit stories.
Of course, what are really explicit are the details that Dom doesn’t share.
A little bit of a half smile forms on Billy’s lips as he finally finishes pouring the tea, setting the cream and the sugar on the tray. Then behind him he notices a definite lull in the sitting room. The reason for this lull wraps their arms around his middle.
“Billy.” The voice is quiet, much quieter than it had just been a minute before. “Why are you hiding in here? It’s your party.”
Billy, whose eyes are now closed, his breathing soft and even, who is so happy because Dom is here. Here here here. And it had been far too long.
“I was just. Remembering. All the good things about my life, y’know. One of those birthday-sentimental things.”
He had spent birthdays with all of the people out in the next room. Some with his older friends in Scotland, drinking in the pub.
Many with his sister, around his grandparent’s kitchen table. The two of them fighting over who would blow out the candles the fastest.
Then there was the one with Dom and Elijah the very first day he had met them. The many subsequent ones with Dom, as well. Even the one where it had just been the two of them, when they had been stuck in an airport when it turned midnight. Dom had bought a candle and a muffin from two different stores in the airport and had conducted everyone in the terminal while they sang him Happy Birthday.
Then he’d kissed him. Right there. For the very first time.
“Dom.” Billy slips around in Dom’s arms, feeling a bit tingly all over at the memory, “I thought. Well... I thought that you wouldn’t come.”
Dom rolls his eyes, hugging Billy close to his chest, “Silly man.” Billy isn’t worrying about Ali walking in or any of his friends because really he’s forgotten that they’re all there. All of them with their silly confetti-covered hats and their deflating balloons and their competitive memories. None of them would win, because none of them had this, ever. “You know,” Dom says, his fingers dancing up and down Billy’s spine, “We have two very important anniversaries to celebrate tonight.”
And Billy breathes out through his nose into Dom’s neck and yes, this, is why he likes birthdays the most.
