Part10: Crash Status-Unavoidable

Billy had just closed the door to his bedroom when he heard the light tapping on his front door. Dom was sleeping now and with luck, he would sleep the entire day away again (it was all Billy could do to keep him calm and quiet during the night). He didn't think he could handle Dom during the day as well.

Billy pretended not to hear the tapping just like he had done in the past when hoping that Sean would get the message and leave him alone to pick up the pieces. But a glance at the calendar showed him that seven days had passed, not the five he had thought had gone by. He had no choice at this point.

Letting out a heavy sigh, Billy angrily trudged to the door and flung it open.

"What the fuck do ye want?' he growled before turning away
from the door and going to the kitchen, knowing full well that his guest would follow him in whether he was invited to or not.

"And close the feckin' door." A slam was the only answer he got.

Sighing, he gritted his teeth and busied himself with putting the kettle on to boil and making some tea attempting to repress the sudden urge to throw something painfully sharp at his guest.

"Temper, temper, William." Sean chided him softly as he elegantly sat down on the counter and watched Billy with an amused expression on his handsome face.

"Fuck off." Billy snarled as he moved around the kitchen
and tried to do his best to ignore Sean.

"Oh. William, it was really nothing." Sean told him, smirking widely as he did so.

Billy paused in his methodical preparations and glared at Sean.

"For your fucken sake, I would hope so, Sion. Honestly. What the fuck where you thinking?"

Sean's face lost its smug expression in a blink of eye at the question and turned thin and feral, like the wolf he had long taken as his personal sigil.

"The Changeling needed to feed. We couldn't take blood
from the girl. Who else could we tap at such a short notice?"

"You couldn't have gone out to hunt?" Billy plaintively asked.
Sean shook his head. "Not enough time. Bloom, the little shit, staked him down and left him to burn on a rooftop."

Billy's fingertips got even colder when he heard that. "He did that?"

"After beating him into a pulp after trying to save your precious child's friend and lover. Yes."

Billy swallowed hard, feeling queasy at the revelations.

"If it hadn't been for your friend, Wenham would have been nothing but ash."

Although he was shocked by the fact that Sean was using Dave's last name, Billy's expression remained the same.

After all, he hadn't got a good reason as to why he was going to let Dave have Dom.

"Yet you were going to let Dave feed on him, knowing that an injured vampire could very well drain him dry?"

Sean turned away at this question and seemingly looked slightly... ashamed?

"I do apologize for that. But trust me on this when I say that wasn't my intention."

"Oh? Really? What was your intention then? To scare him silly after he has helped you out?"

Sean didn't reply. Instead, he looked down and began tracing the lines on one of Billy's ragged old tea towels.

"I'm serious Sean. Why the hell did you do that to Dominic? And you'd better not give me some poetic bullshit about it being in your nature like Viggo used to do cause I swear I'll throw boiling water on you if you do."

Billy warned
him as he lifted the kettle from the red stove element and placed it on a ceramic pot holder mere inches away from Sean's hand.

Minutes passed and Billy finally gave up and began busying himself with finding his tea pot and the half-empty bag of Earl Grey he had stashed in the cupboards. He had just put the tea bag into the pot and was reaching for the kettle when Sean spoke up.

"I was pissed off, alright?" Sean finally hissed out.

"Why?"

"The arrogance of that little shit Bloom and the fact that despite everything I was aiming to do, I failed not just in that, but also in protecting everyone who was relying on me."

His hand stopped mere centimetres from the kettle at those words and he turned to look at Sean, unsure at what he had just heard Sean admit to him.

"Huh. I thought..." Billy trailed off as he picked up the kettle and poured the water into the pot.

"What did you think?" Sean asked him quietly, his green eyes glittering in genuine curiosity.

"I didn't think that you even saw us that way." Billy told him slowly, replacing the kettle back on its holder.

"To tell you the truth, I thought you saw us a pawns to move in your never-ending game of chess against Viggo and nothing more." Billy honestly thought that he was going to get attacked by admitting that much to Sean, but to his
surprise, all he got for an answer was a low chuckle.

"You seriously think I would have survived this long if I had shown meself to be such a bleedin' heart to everyone?"

Billy shook his head. "Exactly. Hell, I don't even understand why the hell I'm tellin' you this right now."

He sniggered. "Maybe I just want to get myself staked."

Billy raised an eyebrow as he put the lid on the tea pot and waited for the tea to steep.

"You're that certain of losing?" he asked quietly.

Sean didn't answer right away. Instead, he reached over to the dish-rack and plucked out an earthenware mug and delicately placed it on the counter beside him.

"Just being realistic, that's all." Sean ran his hand through his hair before fixing his gaze on Billy once
more.

"We may have to call The Lupernalia into the fight, you know."
Billy's spine stiffened as the chilly fingers of fear traced their path down his spine at the mention of the Lupernalia.

"You're not serious about calling them?" Billy stated, proud that his voice was steady despite the queasiness he was now feeling.

"I don't want that little shit hurting anyone else like this, William. He's gone too far. The murders were one thing, but attacking the mortals, and the go-between? I can't let that go." Sean growled out, pushing the mug towards the
tea pot.

Billy bit his lip and poured out the requested tea, knowing full well that Sean needed it as badly as he did. Billy didn't answer and instead poured himself a cup and pulled out a carton of cream. Passing it over to Sean, he waited until his leader had added some cream to his tea before doing the same to his. He took a sip and savoured the taste, sipping it slowly as to let the fragrant bergamot sink into his tongue before swallowing.

"When are you going to put out the call for them to come?"

Sean frowned and put his tea down.

"I sent word out last week, they've come." Billy nodded.

"It's still not enough having them here. They're only twenty-four and I know that Orlando's got some tricks up his sleeve he hasn't shown me."

Billy frowned, knowing that it was more than likely true what Sean was saying.

"It would be good to have more vampires around. I'm sure your child would be willing to join us. If not to fight for our cause then to at least be with you."

Billy felt a lump rise in his throat and he swallowed thickly before speaking out his fears.

"You're not going to turn him are you?" Billy asked hoarsely.

"That's in your hands. I'm not interfering." Sean told him sharply.

"The girl?" Billy asked, feeling like a right bastard
about forgetting Robin all that week, being all too consumed with Dom's rantings. She could have already been turned for all they knew.

"She's in good hands. Karl and Miranda are taking care of her. They won't turn her unless I say the word so tell the boy she's well and that there's something she wants to tell him."

Billy swallowed hard at that and nodded. Sean nodded back and continued with the topic they had strayed from.

"As for Dave I will be giving my blood to him, more of it than before."

Billy blinked at the statement, unsure of what he had just heard.

"Why are you doing that now? After all this time, you could have given him more power. Why now?"

Sean took another sip of his tea and leisurely drank it down before speaking.

"He didn't prove he was worthy of it before. Nothing that he did ever convinced me that he would be a useful ally and thus warranting being made my kin."

Billy shook his head at the news.

"After all these years...You're a hard man, Sion." Sean grinned briefly.

"Thanks. It may be that things are changing and they're changing me also. But thanks for the kind words, William."

Sean replied gleefully.

"That wasn't a compliment, you idiot."

"I know. But I'll take it either way."

Sean took his cup and drained it dry before placing it ever so carefully in the sink before jumping off the counter.

"You're mad."said Billy watching him move gracefully away from the sideboard.

"I know. Tell me more about it after you're done with the boy.For now, I take my leave of you, William."

Billy shrugged and finished off his tea.

"You know where the door is. You can show yourself out." "I will. But before I do...."

Billy didn't see him coming. No matter how quick he was, Sean was always two steps ahead of him and it still annoyed Billy greatly to find himself in Sean's arms with his preternatural father feeding from him. Angry, yet helpless, Billy endured the pain of the feeding by gritting his teeth and blocking the pain from his mind.

So intent was he on ignoring the pain that he nearly missed the whispered command Sean issued him.

"What?"

"Feed from me."

"Are ye daft man?"

"Do it. Or I shall never offer you my blood ever again. Now do it."

Billy wetted his lips and plunged in with reckless abandon, all of his fears and worries washed away by the tangy taste of coppery blood on his tongue.

~*~*~*~*~

Dom waited until Sean had left Billy's flat before coming outof the room.

Although he had been awake for a long time before, he didn't want to come out of the room until the coast was clear.

He knew that nothing was going to happen to him with Billy there, but it still didn't keep him from recalling what Sean had done to him. Even after over-hearing the conversation between Sean and Billy, he still felt it prudent to steer clear from Sean.

After all, no matter how human he seemed, Dom knew that it was all just an act. With that in mind, Dom sat on the bed and stared at the walls of Billy's bedroom until he heard the front door close.

He was about to go out and ask Billy what the hell was going on when Billy entered the bedroom and crawled into the bed, leaving Dom blinking at him in confusion.

Billy waited until he had settled comfortably enough under the blankets before he paid any attention to Dom, who was watching him with a confused expression on his face.

"I'm guessing you want answers now, right?" Billy asked as he propped himself up with his elbow and looked at Dom, who drew back slightly from him.

"What?" Billy asked worriedly.

Dom didn't speak, only making vague gestures towards his eyes.

"Oh. Yeah. Just ignore that. They'll go back to normal soon." he assured Dom.

They fell silent for a few moments before Dom spoke.

"Is this really happening?" he asked softly.

Billy bit his lip and looked down at his bedspread.

"Yeah. It all is." Dom blinked at Billy.

"So you're vampires?" Dom whispered, finally able to speak the words that had been running through his mind, tangling themselves with the grief of losing Elijah and being separated from Robin.

Words that he would have never thought could belong in his reality except when they were printed in cheap paperbacks and comics.

Billy nodded.

"I figured the blood-sucking and neck-biting would have been a dead giveaway." Dom glared at him.

"Sorry. Couldn't resist. Yeah, we're all vampires."

Billy's mouth twitched at Dom's shocked expression.

"That scary for you?" he asked, his voice soft and teasing as he spoke.

"Well.." Dom exhaled sharply as he sat against the wall, careful not to crumple up the poster behind him.

"I don't know.. it's just mad. It's not something like admitting you like blokes or a particular band or something. It's not normal."

Billy snorted.

"Yeah, well, it's not something that you tell everyone you meet. We're predators after all. It makes sense for us to keep to the shadows rather than be visible to the public. Humans, as a whole, have a tendency to destroywhat they don't understand."

Dom bit his lip at this, feeling slightly chilled as he recalled the way that Dave had looked at him.

It was true they were killers above anything else. They couldn't get rid of that aspect of themselves.

"So how do you guys creep into the consciousness of humans then, if you have tried to stay underground?"

"The ones like Bloom are the ones that need, for some reason, to abuse their positions. They think they're invincible.Living for so long can do that to you."

Billy sat up and moved close to Dom, who although was sitting still, couldn't help but to feel nervous at the proximity of Billy next to him. A nervousness he couldn't explain away, since he wasn't sure if it was due to knowing Billy's true nature; or his body reacting in half-hidden remembrance at that brief time they had months ago.

"I guess it's also seeing so much, it leaves us crazy, I guess. The fact that things change and thing aren't the same all over. The old ones go odd that way." Billy mused, biting a nail absent-mindedly.

"How old is that bastard that took Lij then?" Dom asked harshly.

"Bloom? About nine hundred, I think. He's not the oldest. Sean and Viggo have that dubious honour. Bloom and others are after. Dave, Miranda and Karl aren't that old. Neither am I, for that matter."

"Who are all the others?"

"The ones that are with Bloom. We used to be one coven, years ago. Sean and Viggo were the leaders, but something came between them and they split off.

Bloom has been causing problems ever since, killing young children and leaving bodies for humans to find. Once in a while, he'll try and hurt Karl. Or Dave."

"Why hasn't anyone done anything about it then?"

"Viggo won't rein him in, that's the problem. He's been apathetic ever since Karl and Miranda chose to leave with Sean. He's not cared and let him run crazy."

"Fuck! What about the Sean bloke?"

"He doesn't want to have a war, but it looks like he's going to have one whether he likes it or not."

Dom sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"Fuck man! So this guy, he's been doing this shit forever and only now, you guys think it's a good idea to stop him?"

Billy winced at Dom's question.

"I know. I'm not going to make any excuses for it. I know."

"So why is it just now that you're all concerned about him?" Billy sighed.

"I'm not gonna lie to you and say because I cared about all
those people he killed. Nor do I care about keeping peace between us. I just want to be left alone. I care about it now..."

He paused and looked at the thick drapes obscuring any natural light.

"because I care about you, Dom. I know maybe it's not enough, and it's too late because of all that has happened. I might as well let you know. I'm sorry that you, Robin and Elijah were caught up into it. I know it's not much, but I'm sorry."

Dom was stunned at Billy's declaration, so blunt and heavy that it almost made him wince with the weight of it.

He had hoped that Billy may have had at least some emotions for him, but hearing what was nearly a declaration of love from him was utterly beyond anything he had hoped for.

If he had noticed the effect that his words had on Dominic, Billy didn't show it.

Instead, he kept on talking as if he had said nothing of importance to him.

"It's different, being a vampire.

Despite all the myths that are out there, it's a fate worse than death, once the novelty of being eternally alive changes. Your family dies, your friends die.

Everything changes.

Sometimes too rapidly.

Sometimes, the loneliness gets harder and harder to bear then you share your curse with someone and they turn on you.

You live with the pain, day after day, hoping you can escape all the binds and demands, but it still remains the same.

You're tied together and even if there's someone there to share it with, you still have to part from them in the end."

Billy fell silent and looked away from Dom, not wanting for the man to see the tears glimmering along the corners of his eyes.

He hadn't meant to sound like a sulking, whiny child about his life. It had just come out that way, all those emotions that he had to so carefully guard around the others. Emotions that he knew no one would understand or take seriously.

Dave was simply too fragile and too worried to deal with them, while Karl would simply look away.

Miranda would trill and leave.

While Sean he was a leader. He couldn't afford to let himself be soft. He had said so himself.

Billy was sure that no matter how much Sean's heart was breaking, he wouldn't ever let the cracks show. And so, there was no one else.

Nor did he really have a place to indulge his emotions in unless he simply left for Edmonton and into his hideout. But he knew that there was no way he could leave.

Not when Bloom was going crazy.

Not when Elijah was in danger.

Feeling as if he was going to drown in his centuries old despair, Billy didn't notice when Dom's hand curved around his chin until he found himself looking into those deep, stormy eyes that seemed to reflect the whims of the sea as faithfully as a mirror could.

Blinking rapidly, he felt his heart pulse as Dom stared at him, his expression curiously blank as he then leaned in closer.

Billy's breath hitched just at the exact moment that Dom's lips pressed against his.

Soft at first, then harder, more insistent as the kiss got longer.

They slid onto the bed, with Dom on top of Billy, his mouth harsh and insistent, his hands travelling over his body.

First over his shirt, then underneath it to feel cold, hard flesh that rippled underneath his fingertips. Billy let out a gasp as a jolt of desire swept through him and his back arched, giving Dom more access to his belly and abdomen.

Dom complied and stroked his belly until his fingers were brushing the waistband of Billy's worn jeans.

He knew that Billy expected him to go further, but the fact that his skin was still cold, despite everything that they were doing, made it all to obvious to Dom that despite everything, Billy wasn't human.

He paused only for a second as he weighed the options. With Robin, it had been so easy for him to continue. She was soft and warm, smelling faintly of coconut and spicy citrus as he moved like water inside of her.

He could still recall the way that her pulse thudded under his fingers as he caressed the hollow of her neck as he had slowly made love to her, savouring every moment that their flesh remained in close contact. He had known what would happen with her and he had welcomed it all.

But with Billy, it was different. And as much as he wanted it, he knew that he was afraid of what would possibly happen if he did.

"What's wrong?" Billy asked him, interrupting his thoughts.

"Nothing. Just I don't know." Dom trailed off, feeling a blush spread across his face as he realized he had nearly admitted that he was as scared as a virgin on the eve of her first time.

Billy sat up and looked long and hard at Dominic before cupping his chin in his hands and pulling him close for a kiss.

Dom's eyes widened, then closed as he let himself sink into the kiss, savouring the warmth of his mouth and the softness of his lips.

He had nearly forgotten himself when his tongue felt the sharpness of one of Billy's teeth, making him pull back with a small cry of pain.

"What? What is it?" Billy asked worriedly.

"Just bit myself or something." Dom assured him as he experimentally rubbed his tongue against the roof of his mouth to test how deep the cut was.

Billy sighed and pulled away from Dom before getting off the bed.

"Billy? What are you doing?" Billy raked his hands through his hair, making it spike up before walking to the door.

He shook his head and opened the door before finally answering.

"Leaving. It's fairly obvious that this isn't going to work. Not now and not ever."

Dom's mouth opened and closed at that simple reply and he was
too shocked to say anything to Billy, much less act until he watched him leave the room without a backward glance.

~*~*~*~*~*

Although he had seemed composed when he had left the room, Billy was anything but.

His hands were shaking and he was having a hard time keeping down the tea he had drunk earlier.

It wasn't just Dom's rejection that got to him, but the fact that he had let himself hope that this time it would be different and that he wouldn't end up alone again.

But in the end, it had been the same story over again and his chest felt like it was breaking into bloody shards from the inside out.

There were tears welling in the corners of his eyes, but he wouldn't give in to them. At least he tried not to.

Despite all his best efforts, two tears did slip down his face, but he wiped them away quickly; as if in doing so it would also obliterate his emotions. He wiped his hand on his shirt at that and sniggered bitterly.

"When you gonna learn?" he whispered, the words sounding harsh and sour to his ears.

He rubbed his face roughly beforeheading to the bathroom with no set plan in mind.

Maybe a shower would help clear his mind and ease the sting from his heart.

Besides, if he did cry, at least he could pretend it was the water rather than tears that were wetting his face.

Deciding this was the best course of action he could take, he walked over to the cramped bathroom.

He had just stepped into the doorway when he was suddenly swirled around.

Billy only had time to register Dom's arms wrapping around him and his mouth being claimed ferociously before being pushed against the bathroom sink.

Once he had realized what was happening, he pulled his mouth away from Dom's and looked the other man straight in the eye as he awaited an answer.

"I'm not gonna stop it this time. I'm not gonna fuck it up."

Whatever other words he was going to say were lost when Billy's lips crushed his in a feral, punishing kiss that left
no doubt as to what his reply was.

The kiss was only brokewhen Billy grabbed Dom and moving frantically, pulled him out of the bathroom and half dragged, half walked him over to the bedroom, where they stumbled onto the bed and fell on it.

On the bed, Billy's hands moved roughly as they tore Dom's clothes away.

Dom's hands too, were pulling and tugging at the clothes Billy wore until they came lose and fell to the floor, utterly forgotten by their owners in their passion.

The kissing resumed as hands roamed over pale naked flesh, stroking, caressing and exploring. Both of them looking for the secrets that were hidden in each other's flesh as they sought to become one.

There were no thoughts, only feelings as the emotions overflowed with each breath, each slight touch of parted lips over delicate places.

It all seemed to melt into a swirl of sensuality and desire that wiped out anything else for them. For them, nothing else existed except that moment that was nearing closer as they reached the threshold of sex.

The only time that reality intruded was when Billy had to stop kissing Dom when he didn't find lube on the first try, since it had been ages since he had last found any need for it.

Once that slightly embarrassing interlude was over, They resumed their actions, but this time, Billy had moved on top and Dom was arching his hips up to meet him as they worked at aligning their bodies.

Dom moaned at the first stroke, curling his hands around the pillow as Billy's body trembled as he moved deeply into him.

"Did I hurt you?" Billy had whispered as he moved again, making Dom grunt slightly this time.

"N-no." he panted out as he steeled himself to meet Billy's thrusts.

"Good." was all Billy said as he wrapped his hand around Dominic's cock and began to stroke it in rhythm to his thrusts ending any other conversation that might have occurred between them as they continued on making love.

The time seemed to become elastic as they continued moving. At first a bit awkwardly as they began to find their rhythm, but once they had, they moved as one and with the same fluidity Dom remembered achieving with Robin.

He felt it all blur and swirl into a kaleidoscope of colour as Billy collapsed onto him a few minutes later; his last coherent thought in his mind being simply: "I think I can die now."

~*~*~*~*~*

Orlando stood on the porch, a lit cigarette in his left hand as he watched the sky get lighter with the impending arrival of dawn.

"Bastards have run, like rats." Orlando whispered before he took a drag of his cigarette.

He inhaled deeply and held the smoke in his lungs, letting them out when it was burning too much to be tolerable.

He knew, by the stark white of the moon that he only had one more night to call his troops.

Smiling malevolently, he threw the cigarette onto the
ground before going back inside.

"If they will run like rats,I will hunt them like rats."
