Summary: Wow...Billy's voice really *is* amazing, ain't it.
Disclaimer: As real as a not real thing.
Feedback: Makes me all warm and squishy inside. Have some cookies and milk.
A/N: Whole story was inspired by and written for
perianella. This chapter especially, is hers, what with all the amazing ideas that she gave because my poor little brain couldn’t seem to work on its own. Love you!
A/N 2: Forgive me if some of it doesn't make sense...my stories are never betaed and I had a monster of a headache while writing this part, but I was too stubborn in wanting to finish it.
Part One
Part Two A
Part Two B
“Time to get up!” Dom yelled in Billy’s ear, prompting him to swat the air with one hand while grabbing the pillow with the other and pulling it over his head.
“G’ ‘way.” Billy grumbled into the pillow.
“Up and at ‘em, mate!” Dom pulled open the curtains quickly and blasted light into every corner of the room, “The sun’s a-shinin’ and the birds a-chirpin’, Billy boy!”
“Twat.”
“Well, ain’t you just an ickle ray o’ sunshine?” Dom laughed, “Morning person, my arse.”
*************
Billy had finally dragged himself out of bed another fifteen minutes later, showered and gotten dressed so that they could have a quick breakfast and be on their way to the studio. Once they arrived, Dom was a ball of nervous energy. He bounded from one side of the room to the other, saying things like, “Did John stand here?”, “Was Paul over there?” and then plopped himself down at the drum set and banged away for a minute or so while proclaiming, “Look at me! I’m Ringo Starr!” Billy just laughed and shook his head while commenting to Howard,
“Ah bless, he’s like a child in a candy store, ain’t he?”
“He is, but it’s nice to see. I had expected you to be professional, as you are, but I also expected a little more enthusiasm.” Howard responded, giving him a sideways glance.
“Oh, I’m as giddy as school girl to be here, I just don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet, where I am.” Billy said.
“Well, would you like some time to settle in? Half hour or so to sing and play a few songs, let some tension off?” Howard suggested.
“You’d let us?” Billy asked, wide-eyed in surprise.
Howard smiled, “Of course. Do you really think I want Dom in the sound room with him bouncing off the walls?”
Billy laughed, “No, s’pose not.”
“We’ll just be in the room across the hall when you’re ready.” Howard said as he started for the door.
“Thanks, Howard,” Billy said quietly, “this is a wonderful opportunity and I really do appreciate it.”
“No worries, mate.”
Howard left and Billy turned to Dom, “Well, Ringo…you wanna sing something?”
“Oooh, can I really?” Dom asked.
“G’head. Howard said we can arse around in here for as long as we want, mostly on account that he doesn’t want you acting like a bull in a china shop while I’m recording.”
“Right then, I know just the one to start us off, though I’d never admit in public to liking any of this shit, much less knowing the words to it…” Dom grinned like a madman before starting, “Hell is gone and heaven’s here. There’s nothing left for you to fear. Shake your arse, come over here. Now scream.”
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” Billy supplied, “How was that?”
“Perfect.”
“I am.”
“Riiiight…your turn, then. Pick something good.”
“He drinks a whisky drink. He drinks a vodka drink. He drinks a lager drink. He drinks a cider drink. He sings the songs that remind him of the good times. He sings the songs that remind him of the better times.”
They took turns starting songs with the other one joining after the first few words. Billy had grabbed a guitar and Dom was prancing around shaking a tambourine.
“You're a teaser, you turn 'em on. Leave them burning and then you're gone. Looking out for another, anyone will do. You're in the mood for a dance. And when you get the chance...You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen. Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine. You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life. See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen.”
“I’m a bitch, I’m a bitch. Oh, the bitch is back. Stone cold sober as a matter of fact. I can bitch, I can bitch `cause I’m better than you. It’s the way that I move. The things that I do.”
“You make a grown man cry. Ride like the wind at double speed. I'll take you places that you've never, never seen. Start it up. Love the day when we will never stop, never stop. Never stop, never stop. Tough me up. Never stop, never stop, never stop. You, you, you make a grown man cry. You, you make a dead man come. You, you make a dead man come.”
Dom had now taken to strutting about the room as though he were Mick Jagger and Billy was torn between laughing so hard that he wet himself or being really turned on, especially as Dom sang the last line of the song. He decided the first option was probably the safer route, but by then Dom had already started singing a new song.
“I'm too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt. So sexy it hurts. And I'm too sexy for Milan, too sexy for Milan, New York and Japan. And I'm too sexy for your party, too sexy for your party. No way I'm disco dancing. I'm a model, you know what I mean. And I do my little turn on the catwalk. Yeah on the catwalk, on the catwalk, yeah. I do my little turn on the catwalk.”
When they got to the end, they were laughing so hard that they could barely whisper the words and were clutching each other to hold themselves up. After they had collected themselves and wiped the last remaining tears from their cheeks, Billy’s expression turned serious.
“I ought to sing something solemn, to get into the mindset for recording.”
“Mmmhmm.” Dom nodded in agreement, “I suppose that would be a good idea. Can I still sing too?”
“Nah…I’ll sing solo. Better that way.”
“Can I at least play air guitar?”
“No Dom!” Billy almost had to laugh in his exasperation, “I’m trying to be serious for a moment.”
“Tambourine?”
This time, Billy did laugh.
“Shut up, will you? I need to concentrate now.” Billy stretched his arms out in front of himself and cracked his knuckles, making Dom twinge.
“I hate it when you do that.” he said, grimacing.
“Why?” Billy questioned, “you crack your own knuckles all the time.”
“Yeah, but you’ve got such lovely little hands, and it scares me that one of these times, you’re going to break one of your fingers or something,” Dom paused, “and that would make me sad.”
“Really?” Billy smiled but with an eyebrow raised curiously, “how would that make you sad?”
“Because then you couldn’t play the guitar for a while and I love hearing you play.” Dom said simply.
“Oh.” Billy didn’t trust himself to say anything more than that so instead he gave Dom a quick hug, catching the younger man slightly off guard.
“Well don’t get all mushy on me, Bill,” Dom laughed as he returned the embrace, then withdrew himself from Billy’s arms, “go on and practice something. Get yourself 'in the zone', as Lij would say.”
“Right,” Billy nodded.
“Good luck.” Dom grinned as he left to go to the adjoining mixing room.
“Thanks,” Billy replied, “just don’t make faces at me through the window, or I’ll bloody well kick your arse.”
Dom only laughed and waved before disappearing through the door.
Billy stepped up to the microphone, reaching for the headphones and placing them around his neck. Drawing in a deep breath, he closed his eyes and began to sing,
“Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as though they’re here to stay. Oh, I believe in yesterday. Suddenly, I’m not half the man I used to be, there’s a shadow hanging over me. Oh, yesterday came suddenly. Why he had to go, I don’t know, he wouldn’t say. I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.”
Billy opened his eyes and stared intently at Dom. He was well aware that he was taking a huge risk here, with all his emotions written clearly on his face and wearing his heart on his sleeve. But he also knew that this may be the easiest, if not the only way, in which he could finally tell Dom how he felt without it being too uncomfortable for either of them.
Dom found himself staring into the flickering shades of bright green that belonged to Billy’s eyes. Even with a glass window and twenty feet separating them, Dom could feel the intensity sparking as if they were only a foot away from each other. And then, like someone had flipped a light switch, Dom realized that Billy had changed the lyrics from “she” to “he”. His mouth formed a little “o” as he was hit with the biggest D’OH moment ever to be bestowed upon man.
“Billy loves me…” he thought to himself.
“Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play. Now I need a place to hide away. Oh, I believe in yesterday.” Billy finished singing and then spoke into the mic, “Think I’m ready to start. Dom, you wanna let the others know?”
“Sure.” Dom nodded numbly and poked his head out of the room to call in Howard and the rest of the sound engineers.
“I’m set, you lot ready in there?” Billy asked.
After about five minutes, there were nods and spoken affirmations that yes, everything was a-go, just soon as Billy gave the word. He slipped the earphones onto his ears, adjusted the papers on the stand in front of him and gave a thumbs-up to the window before closing his eyes again. After a few mis-cues and bobbled first words, Billy finally made it through the opening verse.
“Home is behind, the world ahead. And there are many paths to tread. Through shadow, to the edge of night until the stars are all alight.”
When Billy hit the note perfectly on the word “edge”, Dom felt a shivery tingle run all through his body. He got goose bumps on his arms; all the little hairs stood up on the back of his neck and he let out a gasp that sounded more like a high pitched squeak.
“Oh. Oh my.” he whispered aloud.
“That was amazing, wasn’t it?” Howard agreed, “I knew his voice would be perfect for this.”
Dom still felt pins and needles from head to toe as he watched Billy finish the second verse. And when Billy opened his eyes and his gaze met Dom’s with a soft smile, Dom thought he’d been hit by a Mack truck. They continued for at least another two and a half hours, trying to get everything just right, but to Dom, it was nothing but a blur.
****************
“Hey, Bills.” Dom whispered once they were back in their hotel room.
“Yeah?” Billy looked at him curiously, “and why are you whispering?”
“This afternoon was…wow. I’ve never heard you sing like that before. Amazing. Beautiful. And a million other adjectives that I can’t think of right now.” Dom rambled.
“Aw, aren’t you sweet,” Billy couldn’t stop the grin from spreading across his face, “but you still haven’t told me why you’re whispering. There’s no one here but us two.”
Dom stepped close to Billy, wrapped one arm around his waist and cupped the other hand around his ear, as though he were poised to tell a secret.
“I feel like I’m in primary school again,” Billy giggled, “are you going to tell me who Susie Adams has a crush on?”
“No,” Dom answered, his breath warm on Billy’s skin and lips brushing his ear so lightly that it tickled, “I thought I might tell you who I’ve got a crush on.”
“Oh…well have at it, then. I promise I won’t laugh.”
“You’d better not. Listen, do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell? Closer, let me whisper in your ear. Say the words you long to hear, I'm in love with you.”

That was absolutely fantastic. I'm being completely and 100% serious here. Oh, god, the songs and craziness, the description of Billy's voice, the ending?!? the ending was the absolute best, you know, because you used Beatles song lyrics which was the underlying theme and it did exactly what it was supposed to, which is let Dom reciprocate what Billy did.
Oh god, I can't get over this. Love! This! Story!!

(pssst. I've got a secret of my own. The first time (and every resulting time) that I hear that note of Billy's...where Dom gets goose bumps and all? Yeah. That's actually *my* reaction, lol, but I thought it was perfect for Dom.)

Sequel?

Oh, you and me both. Guh. I almost gave myself a heart attack when the thought of Billy singing "Yesterday" popped into my head. Can you imagine him in an interview later then? "So...what's the strangest fan experience you've had?" "Oh...well, there was this one time when I was singing, and these two girls literally exploded. It was all blood and guts and brains everywhere, quite gross, actually. I just hope it wasn't because I'm terrible..."
Don't know about a sequel. I do have another idea in which I'd like to do an underlying U2 theme, the way I did with the Beatles here. Hmmm.

ROFLMAO!!!
oooo...
ok should say I don't really listen the Beatles or U2, but that didn't stop me from loving the story!!!!
no subject
Heee. I'm glad that you could look past my slight Beatles obsession. ;o) And, I only included one U2 song in this one...

The thought of writing a fic where Billy sings "Yesterday" came to me weeks ago while I was driving and I nearly had an accident, lol! WHY didn't I just go ahead and write it??? *grasps head in frustration* Isn't the idea just beautiful? Oh... to hear Billy sing "Yesterday"... I would SO pay big money just for a recording of that.
*dies and is ded*

Yep. ::sigh:: Because Billy singing that one is just beyond any words.

I love you!

Come! Feeeeeeeeeeeeed the obsession!

I am putting this in my memories.

Do you know how much I love you for including Beatles lyrics in the dialogue? How much I adore you you for this story? How much I worship you because of the last line?
And GOD! Billy singing would be the most beautiful thing in the world! I think I would explode with the others!

The way you described Billy's voice is so very guh-worthy. After all, I think my own heart skipped a beat after I first heard him sing in the theater. And that ending was just so very perfectly perfect, I am incoherent from guh.
Good job Dom! No longer do I choose the 'Idiot Dom' icon. Now, you are blessed with the 'True Love' icon. *bows and licks your feet*

Oh, don't lick my feet, love. They're smelly and dirty and gross. (But not hairy. I may be hobbit sized, but no hairy feet for me! LOL)
