Billy’s head shot up, his green eyes full of panic when he stared at Elijah in shock.
“I’m n...” he started, but it needed nothing more than a single raised eyebrow to shut him up.
He sighed. “Please tell me it’s not that obvious...”
Elijah put his arm around Billy’s shoulders again and pulled him close.
“Don’t worry, it’s not. I don’t think anybody else noticed...”
With another sigh, Billy let his head drop to Elijah’s shoulder.
“But...you did notice...”
Elijah waved his free arm as he couldn’t shrug because his shoulder was blocked by a Scot.
“It takes one to know one, I guess...” he whispered and gave Billy a shy look when the older man glanced back up at him in surprise.
“You mean you are...”
This time, Elijah was able to shrug.
“All I wanted to say was...I guess one has to know what it means to suffer from a love for someone you can’t have to notice that somebody else feels the same...”
For a second, Billy studied Elijah’s profile, the slight frown on the perfect face, the usually almost white cheeks blushing a light pink, and suddenly, realization hit the Scot with all its might.
“Lena?” he whispered and watched as those amazing blue eyes slowly closed before Elijah nodded hesitantly.
“I...we...I mean, I met her that night at a pub and they were the first band I’ve ever seen who actually played a song by the Pumpkins...when they were finished, they were sitting at the bar and...I wanted to get another drink anyway, so I walked over. While I was waiting for my beer, Lena suddenly turned and asked if I had liked the gig.”
The younger man sighed. “You know me...nothing could ever stop me once I start talking about music. We’ve been talking for hours...I came home long after sunrise.”
Billy waited patiently for Elijah to continue and after a while he did.
“I liked her a lot – but at that time, I thought it was because of the fact that she was in that amazing band. I’ve been to several of their shows afterwards...and one night, Dom just stood in front of my door and asked if I wanted to come and have a drink with him. I...I told him that I wanted to see Dancing With Devils play and he had never heard of them before so...I just brought him along. Two days later he called and asked me to come over. I did and...Lena was with him. I guess that must’ve been the moment when I realized that she was more than just a singer or a friend for me...”
Blue eyes met green ones and for a few moments, the two men just communicated without words, revealing all the pain both of them felt to each other through their eyes.
Finally, Elijah broke the silence. “Billy?”
“Hm?”
“Why? I mean, you’ve got Alison, you seem to be happy with her so...why Dom?”
Billy shook his head and ran a hand through his hair. “I’m not even sure if I know the reason myself. Do you have a reason to love Lena? What I’m trying to say is...it just happend. I guess it did happen quite some time ago but...you know, I’ve always been the good one...one you could rely on, someone who wouldn’t do anything unexpected or just plain crazy. Dom changed me so much...he made me learn how to surf, he made me cover Orli’s trailer in that fake dog-poo...hell, he even made me wear one of your wigs though it was way too large for me. You and your dickhead.”
Elijah smiled a little, but didn’t interrupt.
“He changed things I didn’t know I wanted to change...and sometimes, I seemed to be scared of these changes. I’ve always dated women...I never thought I could actually feel like that for another man – but now I guess I was just afraid to give in to what I was feeling for him. When I met Alison, it was like returning back to normal after all that time I had spent with you guys...and it was easy to pretend that I loved her.”
“...but you never really did.” Elijah fumbled with an unlit clove, his words being much more of a statement than a question.
“No...no, I think I never did.” Hearing himself say what he had felt deep inside ever since he had met Alison brought fresh tears to Billy’s eyes – but he didn’t allow himself to weep again.
Not as long as Elijah was sitting beside him, that young man who seemed so fragile and innocent but was just as broken as Billy himself was – only that he wasn’t letting it show.
“Maybe you should stay with me tonight...it’s their last night together after all...might be a little loud at their place...”
Billy would have kissed Elijah for that idea – if it hadn’t been for Dom and Lena who each owned one of both their hearts without even knowing.
Instead, he just pulled the younger man up and hugged him tight.
“I’d love to, Lighe...”
The door flew open in the middle of their embrace.
They let go of each other immediatly, blushing a little when Jake studied their faces, both red from alcohol, crying and more unshed tears.
“Just pretend I’m not here, guys...just wanted to wash my hands. Your friend Dom accidentially covered me in beer...honestly, I don’t wanna know what’s going to happen once the two of them get home tonight...if they keep up that passion or even increase it, the whole house might tumble down...”
Jake grinned while drying off his hands and winked at Billy and Elijah before turning and leaving them alone.
“So...you’re staying with me tonight. And I won’t take ‘no’ for an answer.”
All Billy could do was nod.
“Hey, Dominic, you should’ve told me that Elijah and Billy do have something going on there before I just walked in on them.”
Lena had to grab Dom’s shirt to keep herself from falling off his lap while her and her boyfriend stared at Jake, who casually slumped down on his chair and sipped his beer.
“They have WHAT?!” Dom finally regained his ability to speak, but Lena was still clinging to his shirt and staring at her guitarist who started to grin broadly.
“I walked in on them when they were hugging...all red in the faces and stuff...and you can’t tell me you didn’t notice they’ve been in there for quite some time...”
Dom and Lena exchanged glances.
“Uhm...”
Jake giggled into his glass. “Okay, maybe you didn’t...but believe me, they were...”
Dom had just opened his mouth to reply when Billy and Elijah came back to the table and grabbed their coats.
“Uhm...sorry we’re leaving early, but I think, I’ve been drinking too much. Not feeling too well. Oh...and...uhm...Billy and I thought you might wanna spend your last night together without anyone else around so...he’ll stay with me tonight – it’s our little farwell-pressie to Lena.”
Jake hastily waved to Billy and Elijah before he ran back over to the stage.
Dom and Lena followed him with their eyes and just caught one last glimpse of him collapsing from laughter behing the drums before they looked back up at Elijah, trying not to show that they didn’t believe a single word.
“Well...if this isn’t a problem for any of you...”
This time, it was Lena who found her voice first.
“No, not at all. You know I’ll gladly let Billy stay with me.” Elijah looked more than relieved when they took up his lie, Dom noticed before glancing at Billy.
“O-kay then...have a good night there, Bills...I’ll pick you up when I dropped Lena off at the airport, alright?”
Billy just nodded before he was pushed aside a little when Elijah untangled Lena from Dom’s arms and hugged her close.
“Goodbye, Babybunny...have a good trip and a lot of fun with that movie...I’m gonna miss you so fuckin’ much...”
There were tears in his voice and shimmering in his eyes when he let go of Lena and it hurt Billy even more to know what was really going on in Elijah’s heart just then.
He himself wished Lena all the best because he knew it was what everybody expected, mumbled a quick goodbye and all but ran to the door, Elijah following right behind.
Once they had found a cab and gotten in, both of them silently stared out of the windows, tears blurring their visions until they had reached Elijah’s place at last.
When the door fell shut behind them, they finally let their masks drop, holding on to each other for dear life until both their shirts were soaked with tears.

Poor Billy and Elijah! I just want to hug them forever to make things better! At least they've still got each other.
Wonderful chapter, full of sadness but true friendship too!

And in response to your last comment, YES, I am a Man Utd fan and a general football obsessive. :-D In fact, apart from the fact that I am addicted to this fic, that is why I am down here reading it rather than watching them lose to Celtic .. I hate those damn American announcers, and the fact they are losing to Celtic as well, but anyway! *points at icon*
From:

Yeah, they *do* have each other...and this must be the only thing that makes me feel a little better while writing this. *eyes the evil bunnies*
Thanks so much for your comment! *hugs you*

And now, look at me...I'm all like:*squeeeee* Elijah-news!
(I'm going nutters...lol)
Neither myself nor my bunnies wanted to have Elijah lusting after Dom...again. I mean, if it's well written, it's alright...but sometimes I think there has to be something else Elijah could do.
Well...he's lusting after someone again but...ach, you know ;o)
Three cheers for football! Muah...still more than two weeks to go. (But I'll be in London when ManU plays Chelsea. YAY!)
Great. Celtic. Bleh.
I didn't even bother to switch it on, I followed the whole thing at livescore.
If it was just as boring as that Bayern Munich-match, I haven't missed an awful lot. lol
*luffs your icon*

So I bet this is the kind of fic where you don't figure out how the story ties to the title until the very end and that's what actually makes the story, right?
From:

Better and better. PLEASE HAVE A HAPPY ENDING!!!! I WILL BUY YOU ENDLESS SUPPLIES OF COOKIES!!!!!
Sorry...little hyper and tired at the same time. Makes me loopy.
I'm adding you as a friend, btw.

You know, it really doesn't help to have wicked PMS and read this, now I'm sniffling and wondering where the hell you go from here. I know we won't be disappointed.
This chapter was fabulous, and painful.
From:

Know what? You're the first to refer to the title...amazing. I never think about stuff like that...tend to forget titles after two sentences of the actual story ;o)
*hugs*

And lol, random fact, Lij is apparently a West Ham fan now because of his upcoming movie, you know? And that just puts me off. No, no, no. Bad bad bad.
Oooooh, do you get to go to that match, cause that would be so cool! On Boxing Day I got to see Man Utd - Everton. Sooo amazing. I only wish I could go more than once every 16 years (which is what is has been so far ... one game in 16 years, not even two games in 32 or something)! Ew, I couldn't bear to watch the Bayern match because the Bayern kits were just so ugly, and then I couldn't torture myself with more penalties after what England did this summer. :-p The Celtic game was just ... ugh, irritating, I can't stand those announcers and watching it on mute is not as fun.
Thank you! *luffs your fic and wonders if it would be ok if I added you*

Ooooh, a friend! *runs off to friend you back and leaves some cookies behind*
I looooove friends! *huggles you*
From:

I'm glad I got through PMS without suffering too much this time...lol
You'd better keep your cookie dough...a girl needs it from time to time...and I don't want to be held responsible if you don't get enough of it ;o)
I really hope I won't disappoint you...
Thanks sooo much! *huggles again*

I don't think he's really a West Ham fan...he doesn't have a clue about football (and Dom would kill him if he was), so...lol
I even get along with Liverpool-fans. It's actually a lot of fun. ;o)
There's a chance I might go to the match...not quite certain yet :(
I've never seen them play before...which is a little sad considering it would take me like...90 minutes (and about 10 euros) to get to Old Trafford. Shame on me.
I never like Bayern-matches...but sadly I get to see a lot of those around here...lol
And England and penalties? No, thanks, never again. *sniffles from the memory alone*
Another icon I love!
And: Of course it would be okay. I'd be honored ;o)
*huggles*
From:

Nah, no sarcasm here (for once)...it's kinda important to keep the sense of the title hidden until later...and the full thing will come up in the last chapter so, honestly, I'm quite relieved now.

He was in FourFourTwo, a kind of longish article that they always do on celeb fans, but he was all 'I don't really know much about it' blah blah. Shady ... ;) And of course Dom was in United magazine, I'd love to see a confrontation between them about that, lol.
I'm friends with Liverpool fans too! It's not that hard ... I just have to compliment Michael Owen a lot, or at least go along with their compliments. ;)
Oh wow, lucky you to be so close! I guess have seen them twice, but once was last year at the Juve game which was loads of fun but not a totally 'real' experience I guess, because of the location and the friendlyness of it all and stuff. *shrug*
Wait, so you live in .. Germany?
Oh I know, the Portugal game was just ... I tried to watch the replay, I got as far as minute 3, and couldn't take it. That about sums it up for me.
Aw, why thank you! I love yours too (Billy's so adorable!) And you are friended! :-D
From:
no subject
Yeah, those darn Liverpoolers seem to build everything up on Michael...I wonder what they'll do once he retires...;o)
Yeah, I do live in Germany ;o) (And I couldn't guess your location to save my life...)
It's not that close, actually, but I could get there in a decent time. Maybe I will, one day.
I don't really care where I see them, as long as I *do* see them ;o)
Please...no talking about that Portugal-match anymore. It makes me wanna cry out with frustration.
Scots are always adorable...some more, some less, but as soon as they start talking, they always are ;o)
*runs off to friend you back and huuuuuggles madly*

Oh, and I live in California. Please excuse any west coast slang words like 'dude' that creep into my language. ;)
Oh totally! I just meant that the atmosphere was so much better when it counted and when they were in their 'natural habitat', as the discovery channel would say. ;)
*zips lips* Such a pain saver!
I knowww, they were interviewing the man of the match earlier (from the Celtic game, and from Celtic *grumbles*) and he had the cutest accent, he said ... oh man, I forget what it was exactly, but some phrase Billy said once and - eep! So cute!
*goes back to re-read chapter and imagine everything in Billy's accent and huggles madly back!*

Maybe I should grab Billy and Elijah and offer some kind of public-sad-guys-hugging-session...they might need it ;o)

Makes it even harder to figure out what the title might mean...which is good because knowing what it is supposed to say would kinda ruin the story ;o)
Thanks so much!*huggles*
