Dom’s got an idea. Billy knows the second he opens the door. It’s eerily quiet. No Playstation, or music, or shower sounds. Because Dom’s just sitting there on the couch, tapping his foot. Waiting.

Billy drops his keys on the table. “Dom?”

“There you are! Ready to go?” He jumps up, grinning wildly.

“Go where, Dom?”

“It’s a surprise.”

“Christ, not another bloody surprise.” Billy winces, remembering Dom’s last ‘surprise’. A few weeks ago, he had taken it upon himself to cure Billy of his fear of heights. They’d ended up at some amusement park, where there was a ride called the ‘Drop of Death’. It sent you up a couple hundred feet in the air, trapped inside a tiny metal cage, before lowering you out a hatch in the bottom and unhooking your harness, sending you free falling into a little blue fishnet that Billy was under no circumstances willing to trust with his life. Dom had pleaded and bargained for an hour, before he finally decided to try it himself, just so Billy saw there was no threat involved. Billy agreed, and he’d stuck around to make sure Dom didn’t end up plastered to the pavement. Then, while Dom was being lowered in the net, he’d slipped off and taken a cab home.

“Yup, a surprise. And there’ll be no sneaking away on me this time, Boyd.” Dom walked over and ushered him back out the door, grabbing a backpack and a small cooler on the way.

“No more heights, Dommie?” Billy asked as Dom started the car.

“Not this time.” Dom grinned and slipped a CD into the player, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel.

“Alright.” Billy stared out the window, looking for hints as to what exactly Dom had planned.

“Maybe you should close your eyes.” Dom offered.

“I don’t know if I should trust you that much.”

“You probably shouldn’t” Dom reached over to squeeze his thigh, leaving his palm hot and heavy on the faded denim.

“I definitely shouldn’t.” Billy leaned back and closed his eyes.
When the CD was on the second last song, the car started to slow down. Billy waited until they stopped, then opened his eyes. They were in the small, dusty parking lot of a large park. He could see a lake off to one side, and the place seemed to be deserted save a few brown ducks.

“Dom?”

“Yeah?” Dom had grabbed the cooler and the backpack from the back seat, and he was waiting patiently on the perimeter of the gravel lot.

“Where are we?” Billy stepped out of the car, shutting the door behind him.

“Park.” Dom grabbed his hand. “C’mon.”

They headed toward the lake, eventually stopping under a tree on a hill. Dom set the cooler down and pulled a quilt from the backpack, laying it out on the grass.

“There we go.” He lay back on the blanket, staring up at the sky.

“Dom?”

“Yes Billy?”

“What’s happening?”

“We’re having a picnic.” Dom squinted up at Billy, them pulled him down to lie beside him on the quilt. “It’s nice, isn’t it?”

“Sure. But can I ask why?” Billy shifted, folding his arms behind his head.

“I dunno. It’s sunny out. I miss you.”

“You miss me? Dom, we share an apartment. We see each other every day. We sleep in the same bed for Christ’s sakes, how can you miss me?” Billy turned toward Dom.

“I know. And I don’t miss you like that.” Dom flipped over onto his stomach, propping himself up on his elbows. “Remember surfing in New Zealand? How after we got tired we’d go lie on the sand, right next to each other, and just do nothing? Just lie there and look up at the sky until we were breathing the same?”

“Of course.” Billy said softly.

“I’ve never felt so close to anyone in my life, Bill. That was...that was when I knew.” Dom stared at the grass.

“Dom?”

“Yeah?”

Billy leaned over and kissed him gently. “I’ve missed you too.”

Dom smiled against his lips. Billy kissed him again, tracing Dom’s lower lip with his tongue. Dom reacted immediately, sucking Billy’s tongue into his mouth. They moved closer together, Billy lying flat and pulling Dom on top of him. When the kiss broke, Dom rested his forehead on Billy’s chest, breathing warm into his t-shirt. Billy brought his hand up to tangle in Dom’s hair, curling his fingers around the sunlit strands.

“More.” Dom mumbled, sucking on Billy’s neck. He found Billy’s lips with his, kissing him eagerly.

Billy grabbed the hem of Dom’s t-shirt and pushed it up. Dom felt the sun and Billy’s hand warm his back at the same time. He kissed harder, pushing himself up far enough for Billy to pull his shirt up to his shoulders.

Billy pulled away so he could get Dom’s shirt all the way off, tossing it onto the grass. Dom attacked Billy’s shirt then, removing it quickly and lowering himself back down so they’re pressed together head to toe.

Billy gasps as Dom’s lips meet his again, wet passion and fury. His mind flashes back to New Zealand beaches, and the first day they stopped synchronizing their breathing on the sand. The day Dom had leaned over and kissed him just like he is right now, kissed him so tightly Billy lost track of whose breath was whose.

Dom is impatient, working his hand between them to unzip Billy’s fly. Once he’s got Billy’s pants halfway down his hips he pulls away to take them past his ankles and off.

Billy feels cool air hit his face in Dom’s absence. He struggles to breath for a second, forgetting how to take in the air Dom isn’t pushing into his lungs.

Dom tugs at his boxers, removing them swiftly. He leans down to taste Billy’s hipbone, slowly circling inward with his tongue.

Billy lets his head drop back, staring up at the sun through the tree branches overhead. He jerks up when Dom runs his tongue over the crease between hip and thigh, gasping.

Dom turns and licks up the side of Billy’s cock, stopping just before he reaches the head. Billy is twitching beneath him, moaning softly. Dom grabs Billy’s hips and presses down firmly as he slowly takes him into his mouth. He brings his mouth up and down on him, responding to every gasp and tremble.

Billy grits his teeth and reaches down to tug on a strand of Dom’s hair, too far gone to form the word ‘soon’. He arches back into the quilt as Dom takes as much of him as he can.

Dom glides up and flicks his tongue across the tip of Billy’s cock, feeling him release between his lips.

Billy squeezes his eyes shut, the sun appearing red behind his eyelids as he feels Dom’s throat contract against him.

Dom pulls back, lying on his back beside Billy.

Billy waits until he can breathe properly, then turns on his side and reaches for Dom’s fly.

“Give me a sec.” Dom rasps, breathing heavily.

“Almost got yourself off too.” Billy grins, reaching over to grab the cooler. “Warm beer?” He grabs a can for each of them.

“There was ice.” Dom sits up, smiling. “Guess it’s pretty hot out.”

They drink in silence for a few minutes, before Billy lies back down on the quilt.

“Dom?”

“Billy?”

“I knew the first time you kissed me. Before, when we were lying there like we used to, staring at the sky, breathing in synch, I thought maybe. But when you kissed me, and we were breathing so close together like that...”

“You knew.”

Dom lies down next to Billy, so their shoulders are pressed together. He waits until he can match every inhale, until they are breathing as one. Slowly reaching over to grasp Billy’s hand, he stares up at the sky, the blending shades of sun-stroked blue. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out.

Just when they have the pattern perfect, Dom angles up so their faces are level. He covers Billy’s lips with his. They stop breathing.
