“Check.”

Dom shifted in his seat, hoping that Aimee wouldn’t notice the mistake he had made in moving that piece. Yes, it had given him the ability to get her king, but it had also made his wide open. If she moved her knight, she’d have checkmate.

Aimee reached over and moved the dreaded piece. “Check.” She didn’t seem to realize that it was actually checkmate.

Dom knew that she always took a couple minutes to make sure that she wasn’t missing something. He took this time to distract her. “So...you enjoy singing?” He asked the first question that came to his mind. It was also the most obvious.

She answered without looking up. “Uh-huh.” Her eyes were raking the board. They were narrowed, as if she knew that she was missing something.

“Well...you are a good singer.” He said. He knew it was lame, but he couldn’t think of anything else at the moment.

She looked up and made eye contact, as thought making sure what he said was true. Then she smiled and said, “Thanks.” She pointed at her knight, then his king. “Checkmate.”

Dom groaned, and knew the game was over. Nothing he could do would stop her from winning, so he just moved the most useless piece he could find and let her win. She grinned happily and did some form of the happy dance. He couldn’t help grinning despite his aching head. He could see why Elijah liked her. She could sing, she could dance, she could act, she was awesome. And not bad looking, either... he thought to himself. Too soon she turned back to him and he saw her aqua blue eyes. He immediately thought of the ocean, and the ocean led him to think about...Billy. He mentally slapped himself. Really, the last thing he needed to do know was to think of him! Unfortunately, the thought seemed here to stay. So he tried to think of a way to distract himself. Suddenly, an idea popped into his head.

He looked up at the still dancing Aimee, and asked the one single question that might save him from the Billy thoughts, “Would you sing me a song?”

She stopped and blinked at him, unsure what to say. “What kind of song?” She finally choked out.

He shrugged. “Whatever song you feel like singing,” he answered.

She looked at him carefully. “No requests?”

He began to shake his head when he realised that Billy should be coming soon. Elijah had invited him to come also. This appeared to be either a mini-party or an introducing of Elijah’s new girlfriend. At least, the girl who Elijah hoped would become his girlfriend. Dom decided to take this chance to hit Billy in the heart. He heard the front door open, and knew he had to answer soon. He couldn’t think of any particular song, so he just blurted out “Some love song about how one person loves another but the other doesn’t know it.”

She thought a bit, and then nodded. She stepped back a bit from him, and was opening her mouth to start when Billy walked in. She paused and looked at him, unsure what to do. Elijah and Sean came running down the hall, and both of them embraced Billy. Elijah noticed that Aimee was about to sing, and motioned for Billy and Sean to sit down. Elijah elected to sit next to Dom, and waved at her to continue. She cleared her throat, picked up the guitar she always carried with her, and started.

“Another day begins
As I drag myself out of bed.
Getting ready is a pain
When you all you feel is dread.”

Dom cocked his head to one side. This didn’t sound like a love song to him. He glanced over at Elijah, who seemed ready to fall down and worship her. Dom rolled his eyes and turned back to her.

“I head about my day
Seeing what I normally see
But doing more than I normally do
Yet you sill walk right past me.”

Dom sat up straighter. This was more like it!

“You choose to ignore me
No matter what I do
I still try my hardest
But it’s all a mistake to you.
I’ll never be good enough
To get you to see me for who I am
I could take over the world
And you still wouldn’t give a damn.”

Dom raised an eyebrow. Funny how this song seemed to express his frustrations so accurately. But that last part might be stretching the situation a bit. Wait, never mind, with Allie in the picture, Billy pretty much ignored him, so it would be more accurate than what it first appeared to be.

“For I’m rejected, unknown
You won’t see how much I’ve grown
It’s unheard of, unspoken
You can’t see my heart is broken...”

Aimee was rocking out by now, and seemed to be having a good time. Dom glanced over at Billy. Billy was listening to Aimee, but nothing seemed to dawn on him. He was just listening. In a way, that relieved Dom. However, for some reason, it also angered him. He did his best to shrug it off.

“Just give me a chance
I promise you won’t regret it
Learn how to trust me
Maybe I’ll stop throwing my fits.
Give me a push
See how far I’ll go
A kind word of two
How much more loving I’ll grow...”

Was it just his imagination or did Aimee seem to be directing the last part at him? He blinked; she couldn’t possibly have a crush on him, could she? He looked sideways at Elijah. Hmm. He seemed to have noticed it too, and was now somewhat glaring at Dom. Ooops. Oh well, not much he could do about it.

“For I’m rejected, unknown
You won’t see how much I’ve grown
It’s unheard of, unspoken
You can’t see my heart is broken.”

There was a knock on the front door. Elijah motioned for Aimee to continue, and grudgingly got up to answer it. He came back with none other than Billy’s girlfriend, Allie. Dom recoiled at the sight of her. Billy had brought her here? Or had Elijah been fool enough to invite her? “Mist,” he muttered. It was time to prove to himself that he really could act. He tried to be nonchalant. It appeared to work.

“You think you know me
But you don’t.
You think you’ll own me
But you won’t.
Keep pushing me down
I’ll take my stand.
Go ahead, try to love me
If you can.”

Allie had sat on Billy’s lap, and he was stroking her hair. The sight of it sickened him. Apparently, he had let his mask slip momentarily, because when he looked back at Aimee, she was motioning for him to join her. He mouthed he didn’t know the song. Since she was currently on the only-music part, she mouthed back that he should know the chorus by now. True, he knew that, so when she started again, he went up and joined her.

“Another day begins
As I drag myself out of bed.
Getting ready is a pain
When you all you feel is dread.
I head about my day
Seeing what I normally see
But doing more than I normally do
Yet you sill walk right past me.”

He pursed his lips, ready to begin on the chorus. All eyes were now on him. Aimee smiled at him as she began to sing, and he joined her, pouring his heart and soul into it.

“For I’m rejected, unknown
You won’t see how much I’ve grown.
It’s unheard of, unspoken
You can’t see my heart is broken!”

Aimee leaned over and whispered quickly what was going on next, and he nodded and began, solo, the next part.
“For I’m rejected, unknown...”

Now it was Aimee’s turn.

“You choose to ignored me
No matter what I do...”

Dom.

“You won’t see how much I’ve grown.”

Aimee.

“I still try my hardest
But it’s all a mistake to you.”

Dom.

“It’s unheard of, unspoken...”

Aimee.

I’ll never be good enough
To get you to see me for who I am...”

Dom.

“You can’t see my heart is broken!”

Aimee.

“I could take over the world
And you still wouldn’t give a damn!”

They joined again for the finale, both singing their hearts out. All of the listeners felt their feeling, their hopes, their loses. Their stresses came also, and their love of singing.

“For I’m rejected, unknown
You won’t see how much I’ve grown.
It’s unheard of, unspoken
You can’t see my heart is broken!”

Aimee strummed her guitar one last time, and then stopped. Dead silence followed for a moment, and then all applauded. Billy was looking at them in admiration, as was Allie, but, just as Dom was enjoying the attention from Billy, he leaned over and kissed Allie. Dom stopped, and, afraid that he’d burst out crying, he took off running towards the door. Everyone else was froze for a moment, and as the door slammed shut, they turned to each other silently.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Elijah stood up and was about to follow Dom when he felt a hand close around his arm and before he knew it, he was pulled into the bathroom. He turned to see who it was, and started to see Aimee. She put her finger to his lips as he started to protest.
“Listen,” she said. “I think I know what is bugging Dominic.”
He paused, and then asked her what her thoughts were.
“I think I cannot necessarily tell you, because if he wanted you to know, you’d know by now. However, I think that Dom desperately needs to talk to Billy. Billy without his girlfriend. There is tension between them. I can feel it.”
He looked into her eyes, and reminded himself that she seemed to have the hots for Dom, not him. That was unfortunate, seeing that he loved her so. He was working hard to control his emotions that threatened to spill out, but he couldn’t help stroking the side of her face. She took his hand and kissed it lightly. He shivered at the touch, and felt that it was getting rather hot in the small, yet comfortable bathroom. He was about to respond when she smiled, dropped his hand and opened the door. She walked out, leaving him staring after her in love, hate, lust, and hope.
He stood there for a couple minutes before moving. He knew he had to talk to Billy, and the sooner the better, because maybe, once Billy and Dom solved their ‘problem,’ Aimee would be his. And that was all he wanted currently. Well, true, he wanted Dom to be happy, but Aimee...
He shook his head to clear his thoughts and headed out to where the others were sitting, quite confused. He had to talk to Billy.
OK, I'm starting to get it a little better. You're really good! Would you mind filling me in a little? I'd still like to know how all this came together and how these people are connected. Write more soon!
Good. Who is this Aimee character? Is that the name of Elijah's current real-life girlfriend? Or is she someone you quietly modeled after yourself??
