Notes: I have no idea how many chapter there will be. It is just a story that is jumping around in my mind. Just hope you like it. Oh, yes, and the title will come into play later. I know it is odd, but so am I, so I suggest getting used to it. :-)
Dom lifted the cold, sweating bottle in his hand to his mouth and drank deeply. It tasted good; the liquid washed down his throat, cooling it off, leaving a bitter yet pleasant taste in his mouth. Beer was good for many things, it seemed. However, he especially liked to use it to drown unwanted feelings.
Like the ones he harbored for his best mate, Billy.
He took another drink, letting the cool liquid rest in his mouth for a moment before swallowing. He leaned back in his chair, watching people on the dance floor. Elijah and Sean were out there. Who they were dancing with, he didn't know, nor did he care. The music stopped for a moment as bands switched, and Dom spotted Elijah and Sean coming back. He noticed they were both red and giggly. Just like them, to do something to make them like that.
"Ah, Sean, that was fun," Elijah said as he plopped down next to Dom. Sean nodded, sitting across from them. Dom watched them exchanged comments about the dancing. It had been their idea to come here. Or, rather, Elijah's idea. Neither Sean nor Dom had ever been here before. Elijah had brought them to Iowa, his home state, to get away. They were currently in a bar in Cedar Rapids. It was a nice place, but Dom still preferred LA The only reason he was here was because Elijah and Sean were trying to cheer him up.
"Perfect by nature
I come from self-indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame?
Don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled..."
Dom started. The new band was onstage now. He wasn't much of a fan of Evanescence, but the girl who was singing this song had a pretty soprano voice. Besides, for some reason, this song seemed fitting to his mood.
"C'mon," Elijah said, pulling Sean back onto the dance floor. "You too," he told Dom, motioning towards the dancing people.
Dom shook his head. He wasn't in the mood to dance. Not yet. The time was not right.
"Look, here she comes now
Bow down and say in wonder
'Oh, how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending.'
But now I know she
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled..."
Dom sighed. Unfortunately, Allie is and always will be. And Billy did betray him, but he doesn't know it. This song is horrible to listen to when you connect. It makes you feel worse. Instead of listening on, he focused on the singer. She couldn't be much other than 16, but she was pretty damn good. And not bad-looking, either. She seems to love what she's doing, Dom thought. And she seems to love life. If only I could be like that again.
"Without the mask
Where would you hide?
Can't find yourself...
Lost in your lie!
I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore
It never was and never will be
You don't know how you betrayed me
Somehow you've got everybody fooled...
It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't see me.
Somehow now you're everybody's fool."
The song ended. Dom was glad, it was getting quite depressing. It brought back the feelings that he was currently trying to drown. But when the next song started, he wished for Evanescence again.
"Pain is here to visit me
It has invaded my heart
Stole my memory
It's killing my soul
And hurting my brain
If only I had someone
To stop all this rain."
Damnit! Damn Billy for having a girlfriend. Damn Allie for stealing Billy from me. Damn Billy for letting her. Damn him for breaking my heart. Damn me for wanting him and caring for him more than a best mate should. Damn me for making it my life. Damn Evanescence for writing fucking depressing songs. Damn this band for writing songs about pain. Damn that girl for having the kind of voice you have to listen to. Damn it all! Dom thought in despair. Right after he thought it, though, he felt guilty. It wasn't Billy's or Allie's fault that Billy was straight. It wasn't the girl's fault that she has that kind of voice, either. He shook his head in anguish. Once again, he drowned himself in his beer. He couldn't wait to get out of here.

Elijah was saddened when the band quit. That girl's voice was lovely. He just wanted to hug her and kiss her and make her sing all night long. After the band got offstage, he tracked her down and talked to her. He found out some general information about her. Her name was Aimee, and she was only 16. He was amazed that someone so young could sing so well. She laughed a lot, and had a charming personality. She made him feel special. Come to find out, she was also a Lord of the Rings fan. A major plus, but her favorite character was Merry. That disappointed him slightly, but she was cool, so he let it slide. After talking a while, he invited her to his hotel the next day, and was delighted when she accepted.
After she left, he went back to the table were Dom and Sean were sitting. Obviously, Dom had tried to drown himself in beer again. He looked downright awful. Elijah shook his head, concern covering his complexion. He wanted to help his friend, but he didn't know how. At least, he didn't know any way that Dom wouldn't practically kill him. And that hurt, in a way. Oh well. Best get him back to the hotel before he kills himself for an overdose of alcohol.
Sean helped Elijah practically carry Dom back to the hotel. He was so drunk that he couldn't walk. Pitiable, but true. They placed him in his bed, and after watching him fall asleep, agreed that they should go to bed also.
"He is going to have one hell of a hangover tomorrow," Sean commented, looking back at Dom.
Elijah nodded. Dom drank way too much, especially when he was depressed. It was sad. Pathetic, really. But Elijah couldn't do anything about it. Dom wouldn't let him, or anyone, for that matter. Elijah sighed, waved to Sean, and got ready for bed. His mind was so fixed on the current Dom-dilemma that he got read and crawled into bed automatically. It occurred to him that maybe the lovely singer Aimee could help cheer Dom up. Maybe. He closed his eyes, hoping that the next day would be better. That there would be less battles to fight. And with that, he fell asleep.
