Title: Twenty Minutes
Author: OctoberMonaghan
Pairing: Monaboyd
Rating: I’d have to say...PG, and only because of the language! I’m proud of myself for writing a ‘pure’ story. :-)
Disclaimer: This is not true. They have their own lives, and I’m sure that this is nothing like what happens to them.
Summary: The latest awards ceremony where Billy disappears for 20 mins...what happens during then.
Feedback: I need it! please! So far, both my stories have only gotten one comment! Please! Perhaps you could read them also?

Dom looks at Billy, his face unreadable. The way it has been whenever he’s looked at Billy for a while now. Ever since that fight that happened, ever since that night... Billy looked at him and Dom jerked his head back to the front, staring as someone he’d never heard of won yet another award. He clapped without enthusiasm, his mind on something else. Not five minutes later, The Lord of the Rings won yet another award, but he still clapped without enthusiasm. He never did anything with enthusiasm anymore.

Elijah looked over at him, worried. He knew something was wrong with Billy and Dom, but he didn’t know what. Neither of them would talk about it; for that matter, when he brought up one with the other, they zoned out, ignoring him momentarily. He didn’t know why they avoided the issue. It was obvious something was going on. Especially since they used to be almost inseparable, and now...you barely caught them together! He rolled his eyes at them, and smiling, stood up to hug Peter. So we won yet another award, he thought, grinning happily. He was glad that Lord of the Rings was doing so well...he only wished that his best friends were doing that well, also.

Sean fidgeted and watched as Billy got up and pushed through the isles, mumbling about having to go to the bathroom. His eyes followed Billy as he left the room before coming back to rest on Dom, who was also watching him leave. Dom turned and saw Sean staring at him, which caused him to look down towards his feet. Sean watched him for a bit, concerned, but decided to give it up. Obviously, Dom wasn’t going to tell him what was wrong. It bugged him a bit, and he shifted in his seat so that he could watch Dom without it being overly obvious what he was doing. Dom used to be all over Billy, and now all he does is watch with an expressionless face. Sean sighed; it seemed as though his best friends were having a fall-out, but neither of them would admit it, nor would they talk about each other. He checked his watch, discovering that it had already been ten minutes since Billy left to go to the bathroom. He really must’ve had to go to the bathroom, Sean decided, not wanting to try to figure out what was going on. He convinced himself to pay attention to the awards and not to Billy and Dom, and he clapped as, once again, Lord of the Rings won.

Dom looked out of the corner of his eye and saw that Sean was now paying attention to those on stage. He looked back up, clapping again. He glanced at his watch, and saw that it had been fifteen minutes since Billy left. It did NOT take someone fifteen fucking minutes to go to the fucking bathroom. He glimpsed over towards the door, but Billy did not re-enter, nor did it appear that he would be anytime soon. Dom shifted in his seat and focused on the stage, his eyes misting. No, he told himself firmly, I am NOT going to fucking cry. No way on earth. He rubbed his eyes, noting that Sean was watching him again. He just stared ahead at the stage, and restlessly squirmed in his seat. He wanted to get out of here, out of this stuffy room, out of the sight of all these people, all these prying eyes asking the same question. He was getting fucking tired of these award ceremonies, and was sick of the after parties, when he was constantly bugged by people he didn’t know or care about. It was getting on his nerves, especially when he was already unhappy. He shifted again, and let his mind wander to daydream in a happier, more carefree land. He didn’t plan on coming back from his dream land anytime soon.

Billy looked over to catch Dom staring at him again. Why won’t that ass just leave me alone? he wondered angrily. I’m getting tired of his constant staring. He made his glance visible, just to make Dom blush and look down. He sneered, and caught Elijah watching him. He turned away from him, not wanting to look at him or his eyes, knowing that he’d be asking the same question he always did. What is the matter? he mocked, shifting his weight. He was getting sick of all these questions. He glanced up and caught Sean now watching him. He couldn’t take it anymore. He stood up and pushed through the aisle, mumbling that he had to go to the bathroom. He knew he wasn’t telling the truth. He didn’t have to go to the bathroom, he just had to get away. To get away from all these questions, prying eyes, uncomfortable stares...

He stepped through the door, nodding at the doorman, into the fresh air. He took a deep breath and sighed. He decided he fancied going for a walk straight away, so he did just that. He walked and walked. The farther he walked, the more depressed he got. Usually, walking cheered him up, but it wasn’t doing it’s job today. Not fair. As he turned left randomly, a tear slipped down his cheek. How could this have happened to him and Dom? How? They were such good friends at one point, but naturally, like he always does with everything, Dom had to screw things up. He had to be in love with Billy. He had to be gay, or at least bi, and tempt Billy to lose his straightness. Billy looked up at the sky and cried out in agony as the tears rolled down his face and the memories came back.

Billy smiled as he walked in a disgruntled Dominic’s door. Dom was a late sleeper, whereas Billy was an early rise, and whenever he felt like being mischievous, he went over to Dom’s at 9:00 am. Not an early time for the average person, but for Dom, who usually got up around, oh, say, one, it was extremely early. He walked over to the coffee maker and poured himself a cup of coffee while Dom wandered away back into his room. Hopefully to get dressed. Billy was sure that Dom had learned that if he went back to bed, Billy would come and jump on him to wake him up. If that didn’t work, he’d literally drag him out of bed and use some random way to wake him up. It was normally a very comic experience.

He sipped his coffee and turned to see Dom coming back, fully clothed, still looking slightly disgruntled and disheveled. It appeared that he had been to lazy to comb his hair this morning, but one cannot expect much from Dom at this hour.

“Well, good morning, Dommie,” Billy said, and Dom grunted a reply, got some coffee, and sat down. “Oh, come now,” Billy smiled, walking over to Dom and ruffling his hair, “You can be more polite to your best mate, don’t you?”

Dom batted at Billy’s arm and shook his head while seeming to drown himself in his coffee. After he had finished drinking it, he turned to look at Billy, a smile fleeting across his features. “No, Bills,” he began. “No, I don’t have to be polite to you, you wanker!”

Billy stared at him for a moment before glaring at him and pushing him off his chair. Dom yelled and caught himself, and soon they were chasing each other around Dom’s condo, laughing and yelling. Both were having so much fun.

Later that night, they went out to the bar at the end of the block, and, like usual, Dom got very drunk. Billy sighed as he practically carried his best mate home, wondering why this was always the way it turned out. Dom always drank too much, flirted with everyone too much, and got rejected too much. It was sad, really. Billy reached out and opened the door of the condo and dragged Dom inside. He sat him on the couch, and Dom looked up at him. His eyes fluttered, and ha said, “Ivetoellousotingportan.”

Billy tried his best to comprehend this drunken slur of words, but gave up and asked, “Can you repeat that a little more clearly?” Dom had replied, “Sure. *hiccup* I have to tell you something important. *hiccup*”

Billy cocked his head at him and smiled. “Well, go ahead.” He was used to this kind of thing. Dom usually ended up telling him that he had spinach in his teeth or something. Stupid little things like that.

Dom sat up slowly, and pulled Billy down beside him. He mouthed words, but no sound came. Billy waited patiently, used to this. After a couple minutes of silence coming out of the mouth, Dom had managed to hiccup and say, “Billy...I think I’m in love with you.” For a moment, during and after he said that, he seemed sober. Sober enough to know what he was saying.

Billy started. “What?” Dom repeated it, and Billy shakily laughed. “I think you’ve had too much to drink, wanker. Off to bed with you.” Dom had protested, but Billy pretty much carried him into the bedroom and made his go to sleep. To his surprise, the minute Dom’s head hit the pillow, he was out. Billy watched him for a couple of minutes before decided to camp out on the couch.

The next morning, surprisingly around 10, Dom stumbled out of his room. Billy was in the kitchen making breakfast, and turned to hear Dom say, “Man, I have the worst fucking headache ever!”

Billy smiled and walked over to him. “That isn’t any surprise. You are up earlier than normal, and you drank a lot last night.” He placed a hand on Dom’s arm.

Dom pushed his hand away and asked what was for breakfast. Billy grinned and fed him eggs and pancakes, which Dom ate enthusiastically. After they were done, Dom leaned back and looked seriously at Billy. “Billy,” he began, licking his lips. Billy looked at him, knowing that something important was coming. Dom always licked his lips before stating something important. “Billy...you know what I said last night?”

Billy shifted, staring at him. “Yes,” he answered slowly, unsure of what was coming.

Dom glanced at his hands. “Well...it was true. I..I do love you.” After he stopped, ringing silence covered the table between them. Billy stared, and turned away. Dom, sensing embarrassment, cried, “But I don’t want anything to change between us! I...that has just been bugging me and I had to tell you. I still want to be your friend.” He looked at Billy with pleading eyes.

Billy sighed and turned back to him. “I’m sorry Dom,” he said quietly. “But I can’t be friends with someone who wishes to be with me like that. I’m straight. Obviously, you’re not. I’m sorry. But I...I have to go.” He stood up, grabbed his keys, and walked out of the door, out of Dom’s life.

Billy wiped away his tears as he arrived back in front of the building he had emerged from twentyish minutes earlier. He nodded at the doorman again and re-entered the building. He stopped, caught his breath, and made sure that he looked normal before walking back into the room. He pushed his way back through the aisle, and sat down. He noticed that immediately all three pairs of eyes followed him, one concerned, one curious, and one angry. He sat back down and avoided all three pairs of eyes.

Dom watched Billy enter, and smirked to himself about how long he took to go to the bathroom. He began to entertain thoughts of torture, and just as he was getting to some of the better ones, he was tapped on the shoulder and told he had to go on stage. So Lord of the Rings had won best picture! What grand news! This time he clapped enthusiastically. He put away thoughts of Billy and focused on thoughts of happiness. He grinned as he walked onstage, but avoided standing by Billy at all costs. He let the tears of both happiness and sadness slip down his cheeks, knowing that anyone noticing would take them for tears of happiness. He was glad that this night was almost over.
