Title: Being Lonely
Author: Robin Gurl
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] glamoursnipe
Rating: PG-13 (for word usage, really)
Pairing: BB/DM implied for a short time DM/EW
Summary: During the filming of ROTK Merry and Pippin weren't just separated on film, they were separated in real life as well. Suddenly filming without the other there isn't as much fun.
Notes: I was in a weird mood and wanted to mess w/ Billy a little bit. LOL. I have no idea if it's true. Really. I was just in the mood to write h/c xD Good old hurt and comfort. This only a one shot but can be more if people want it to be.
Disclaimer: All lies.

The day was over - his feet were off, ears were gone and hair was back to normal. The sun was setting outside and he could see the purplish clouds surrounding it from his trailer window. As soon as his makeup girl left he fumbled out of his costume and pulled on some jeans and a t-shirt. Running a hand through his hair, he started to dig for his cell phone.

Pulling it out, he turned it on and stared at the screen.

No Messages. Not even one.

Was Dom enjoying his time without him? Was this God's way of telling him that they were over or not meant to be? His legs went numb and he couldn’t stand any longer. He sat down on the edge of the makeup chair and just stared down at the phone as if expecting it to ring any moment.

That moment never came. He took a deep breath, told himself he was being stupid and just dialed Dom's number. He let it continue ringing, hoping to get something, anything but voice mail. He knew Dom kept his volume up and would run back to the trailer no matter what the situation to check it.

"'Lo, this is Dom Monaghan, the cool bastard who plays Merry Brandybuck!
Oi! Don't listen to him!! He plays an orc!
Billy shut it! I'm trying to record - ELIJAH!
Hellloo this is Dom's brain. He's not in right now. Leave a message and he'll return your call as soon as possible.
'Lijah, give my damn phone back here!
No cussing on yer phone, Dommie!
He did earlier- beep."

"Hey Dom, it's, er, Billy. Just wondering when you got off work and um…yeh. Call me?" He hung up unable to contain a slight smile at the memory of the three of them trying to "help" Dom record his away message on his phone.

This being separated was hard, not just as Merry and Pippin but as Billy and Dom. At least on Billy it was, there was suddenly no one around but him after work was over. No music blaring, loud nasty jokes, nothing. He even missed Sean Astin's complaints about how immature they were.

Billy sat there and waited for 45 minutes for his return phone call. He kept telling himself that Dom would wait just the same and he kept calling. Finally an hour later, 20 calls and still nothing, he was too hungry and decided it was time to go.

The Billy and Dom show was over.

Tears stung in his eyes as he started the car and he pulled out and started down the road.

His mind started to wonder about the reasons why Dom wasn’t answering. Did Dom just hang out with Billy because of their parts in the movie and when they got separated it was a relief to be gone from him? Did that make all of Dom's advances fake? What of their kisses?

Tears streamed down and he choked on a sob pulling up to his house. When he got out of the car, he grabbed his bag and started up wiping tears from his eyes with embarrassment. What was he crying over? He didn't date men and most definitely didn't love Dom.

For Christ's sake - let Elijah have Dom.

That thought sent a wave of dizziness over him. Was that it? He was just convenient sex until Dom could meet up with Elijah again? Feeling used and exhausted he fumbled to put the key in the door, after a few times he gave up throwing the keys onto the porch as hard as he could. More tears appeared and this time he didn't wipe them away. He was in love with Dom.

"Goddamn it, why did I even sign up with this movie?" He crouched down started to search the porch for his discarded keys. "Why did I have to fall in love with him? Get so close that even the tiniest bit away from him and I lose it?"

"Fall in love with who? Bills? Are you alright?"

That voice. Billy stared up into the night sky and saw Dom hovering over him with the key chain dangling out of his fingers. "D..Dom. What are you doing here?"

"You called me 20 times. I was worried something might be wrong. I'm so sorry I couldn't respond. My phone died and I didn’t get the messages until I was out in the car." Billy stood up unsteadily and reached out as if he was afraid this was some sort of ghost. Dom gave Billy a confused, worried look but let Billy hold his hand. "I'm really worried about you. Come on, let's go inside."

"I'm not sick. I'm just, tired."

"Billy, did something bad happen on set today?"

"You weren't there." Billy hung his head even more embarrassed now that he'd admitted to it.

"Oh, so that’s it," Dom whispered. He wrapped an arm around Billy's shoulders and gently nudged him to walk. On their way to Billy's door, he picked up the book bag and jacket. Taking a second to find the right key, he stuck it in the door, unlocked it then all but dragged Billy in. After everything and everyone was in Dom switched on the lights and turned back to Billy. "It wasn't so easy on me either," he started. "I kept looking for you, hoping you'd appear in the trailer but you never did."

"I don't think I can do this anymore." Billy croaked. "If you're not there I don't want to do it."

"We're going to be on the same set in a month or two." Dom offered but knew it was futile. He'd never seen Billy this upset before; Billy was usually the calm and collected one. Yet, Dom also knew that Billy kept a lot of his deep feelings hidden inside and so they would build up and when it got too much- this would happen. This one was worse than normal though, usually Billy would just cry, get a hug and be done with it. This time it looked like he was really hurting.

"Come on, Pip. Let's go get you something to eat. I'll cook it, alright?" His offer went unnoticed and what he had been waiting on finally happened. Billy was in his arms clinging and crying. "I told you, keeping these feelings inside isn't a good idea. Why didn't you just tell me you missed me this much?"

"Just don't let go."

Dom sighed, rubbing his friend's back and realizing that this was the first time he'd ever seen Billy actually act like Pippin off set. Was this still left over from his character acting? If it was he could play with that. "Merry's here, it's alright." The hug got tighter and Dom knew he'd hit it right on the head. "I'm not leaving."

A few minutes, later Dom felt the hug release a little and waited for Billy to pull away. If Billy wasn't ready yet, he didn't want to force him. Seconds later, Billy pulled away, his eyes red and cheeks tearstained. Dom realized if he didn't think of something, this same event was going to happen every day until they were finished. The two of them were separated on set and in real life. Billy was feeling it both ways, both ways must have hit him hard. Over the past year or two, Dom had secretly figured out that Billy didn't like being alone, at all. It took a long time for this to connect in Dom's brain, but it was true. Every time they went somewhere, Billy was always with someone, even when they had started filming- Billy flew in with Orlando. He figured it had something to do with the death of Billy's parents. He'd never voiced it out loud but now that he had it confirmed. Of course Dom was now kicking himself, he should have seen this coming a mile away.

"How about until these scenes are done we share a house? You want to share this one or mine?"

Billy wiped at his face, trying to erase the evidence of his breakdown, but it was no use. He finally stopped scrubbing and looked at Dom. "Are you sure?"

"I missed you, too. I don't think I'd be able to live on set without you, either."

Billy gave a weak half-smile before wavering and wound up leaning against the wall. "I feel so stupid. Being alone it does things to your brain. I kept thinking you were ignoring me on purpose that you didn’t want me."

"Never think that, ever," Dom replied softly. "I'd never do that to you. I love you."

Billy stared up silently before wrapping his arms around Dom's neck, reaching up and kissing him on the lips. "I love you, too."
