Title: The Best Time of Night
Author:

Pairing: Billy/Dom
Rating: R
This was Dom's favorite bit. Sitting on the sofa, the lights darkened, a movie playing in front of them. Elijah was napping on the recliner, the past twelve hours of filming having caught up with him as soon as he'd stretched out. He was a quiet sleeper. Sometimes Dom forgot that he was even in the room.
Billy was not a quiet sleeper. Dom knew this from experience, but not that kind of experience. He knew from all the nights bunking together at someone's flat, because they were all just too bloody exhausted to haul their arses back to their respective places. Billy made little noises in his sleep. He snored, sometimes, and whistled through his nose. Once he was comfortable, he slept soundly enough, but until he reached that point he'd shift around every few seconds, readjusting the blankets and nudging at the pillow. Billy liked everything just so. Dom was the opposite - Dom fell asleep quickly, when his mind stopped whirring, and slept like the dead.
Billy was not asleep just then, though. Billy was wide awake, just like Dom. They'd started out not on opposite ends of the sofa, but with distance between them. The distance had slowly disappeared, bit by bit, until Billy's arm was around Dom and the both of them pressed together at the shoulder and thigh.
The movie was good, but Billy was distracting. He smelled nice - like soap and clean sweat. He was toasty warm and every once in a while, his hand would drop down and squeeze Dom's shoulder, or his fingers would pet through Dom's hair. Dom was absolute putty, focusing all of his concentration on where Billy's hands were and where he'd like them.
When Billy stopped and stood up, Dom gave him a cross look. Billy rolled his eyes, and spoke in a whisper, so as not to disturb Elijah. "Gotta piss, keep your knickers on. I'll be right back."
Dom reached out and swatted at Billy's leg. In Billy's absence, he stretched out length-wise, his toes wriggling against the opposite arm of the sofa. His eyes drifted shut and he thought how nice a nap would be just now. Except then he'd miss this quiet time, and he didn't want to miss any of it. It was his favorite bit, after all.
When Billy came back, Dom sat up again. He reached for Billy's wrist, tugging him down. It was long past twilight outside, and all the rules of friendly touching and what was just past the line seemed to change when they were alone at night. (Or even when they weren't really alone, still.) Billy went along willingly enough, pressing himself up close and cozy with Dom. His arm went back around Dom, and Dom leaned in this time, his head resting just above where Billy's heart thumped. The smell of Billy was stronger here, and the warmth even moreso with just a thin layer of cotton t-shirt separating Dom's cheek from Billy's chest. He made a noise and resituated himself. He tucked his feet up under him, turning in to face Billy more.
"Mm," Billy made a little noise of agreement. His fingers raked through Dom's hair again, down over the back of his neck and around the silly poked out ears, tweaking the lobe fondly. "Think we ought to wake him up?"
Elijah was lying with one leg flung off the recliner, the other stretched out. His mouth was open, and a little bit of drool caught the light from the television. "Nah. Let him stay. I don't feel like moving."
It was Elijah's flat they were in, after all, and if Elijah were to get up and make preparations for sleep in an actual bed, Billy and Dom would feel obligated to either sleep themselves (one on the sofa and one in the guest bedroom, as there were only the two of them here tonight) or leave.
"Mm," Billy said again, nodding his head a little. "All right, then."
"Why, you want to go?" Dom asked, tilting his head up. Billy's face looked different from this angle - his mouth looked softer, his face lax and his eyes relaxed. "You can. If you want to."
It was an empty offer. Even as Dom suggested it, he nuzzled in closer. Billy, for his part, answered non-verbally. His hand rubbed down Dom's back and stopped at his waist, closing in. His other arm made a slow move to join it, and Dom was locked in an embrace.
"Oh," Dom sighed. "All right, then."
Both of his arms were sort of pressed between them, but Dom freed one to reach up to Billy's shoulder. He plucked at the material of the t-shirt, and then grasped it with his fist. Two fingers spider-walked up Billy's shoulder to the hem, where they brushed just under it. He was delighted to feel crisp chest hair tickling his fingertips when he pushed down a little further. He tugged at it until Billy started, laughing silently. Dom looked up at him and grinned.
"Daft," Billy said, but his face had gone all funny and peculiar. Dom probably should have been able to read that expression, but it was late and he was tired and this was really unlike anything he'd ever been through in his life, so maybe it was okay that he didn't have words to put with it.
Then Billy was kissing him. It required Billy to lower his head at what had to be an uncomfortable angle, at least until Dom sat up a little. Soft press of lip to lip and then more. Without thinking, Dom's hand withdrew from where he'd been playing and his fingers stretched wide against Billy's neck, resting there. The first touch of dampness surprised him, but Billy's tongue was kind and clever and Dom was putty again (or maybe still). His breath caught and Billy's hands were still holding, firm but not tight. He opened to Billy, and leaned in eagerly when Billy returned the favor. His hand curled around the back of Billy's neck and he panted softly, not wanting to break for anything. Their noses bumped and Billy smiled but Dom kept kissing, tasted Billy's smile and wanted more.
It kept on, and on and on and on, until the sudden burst of fuzzy static on the television screen made them both jump. They looked at each other, wide-eyed, and then laughed. Billy's hands relaxed and Dom moved back, reaching for the remote. His left arm had gone numb from being bent between them, and his mouth felt wet and tingled.
"What the fuck?" Elijah said, groggily sitting up. "Turn that shit off, fuckers."
He rolled back over and covered his ears just as Dom found the power button. The television clicked, and the room fell into darkness. Elijah was already asleep again.
Dom sat back and fumbled for Billy, wanting more kisses. His hands found Billy first, palms against Billy's cheeks so he could guide his mouth to Billy's properly. "Mm," He sighed, hitching forward on his knees. Billy's hands slid down his back, stopping just before they reached his arse.
"Shouldn't," Billy said so low that Elijah, a scarce six feet away, wouldn't be able to hear. "Dom."
"Hm?" Dom kissed him again, because what Billy was saying was right but not what he wanted to hear. He was horny and excited and scared and horny and he'd be perfectly happy if they kept snogging forever. He lifted a knee and put it back down on the other side of Billy's thighs, straddling him. Billy made a strangled noise, and his hands slipped down a little lower.
Billy seemed to have lost track of what he was saying. Or maybe it was just that Dom wasn't really giving him much of a chance to say anything at all, with his tongue slip-sliding around inside Billy's mouth. The momentary resistance disappeared as quickly as it had come. Dom rocked forward, his jaw dropping when they came in contact. "Oh," he gaped, pushing forward more. Billy's grip on his backside tightened a little.
"Fuck, Dom." Billy said. He sounded, to Dom's sensitive ears, a little more breathless than he had before. Dom was no expert at these things, but he figured it probably had something to do with the hard on that he was grinding against. His mouth slid away from Billy's, leaving a damp smear across his cheek.
"Nngh," Billy encouraged. He reached up, underneath Dom's shirt. His hand splayed across the small of Dom's back. There was heat there, and everywhere they touch, warding off the chill of the night time air. His other hand joined the first, caressing up and down.
Across the room, Elijah rolled over. The chair gave a low creak, and Billy and Dom both stilled. Dom's forehead dropped to Billy's shoulder, forcing his breathing to even out. There was another creak, and Dom quickly rolled off of Billy, his arse hitting the sofa just as the room was bathed in yellow lamplight.
Elijah stared at them, squinty-eyed. "Th'fuck you guys doing?"
"Nothing," Dom said. His voice was a little scratchy. He was hard and his shorts probably weren't doing much to hide it, but Elijah wasn't the most observant even when he was completely awake.
"About to leave," Billy added.
Elijah yawned into the back of his hand and stood up. He stretched, his back popping loudly. "Just stay here. It's late anyway."
"Um." Dom said, but there wasn't really anything else to be said. "Okay."
Ten minutes later, Elijah was in his bedroom, most likely fast asleep again.
Dom was anything but. He lay there in the guest bedroom, frustrated with the knowledge that Billy was one room over and feeling crushed with the weight of this thing that was beginning. Or maybe it wasn't just beginning, maybe it had been building for a while, but it was too late and Dom was too exhausted. He just wanted that warm feeling of Billy surrounding him back. His hand drifted between his legs, rubbing himself through his pants, but the ache went deeper than that.
He was twisting around restlessly when the door opened. He sat up a little, leaning on one elbow, but couldn't see anything. Damn Elwood and his light-blocking drapes. "Bill?"
"Yeah," Billy said. "Shove over, I'm sleeping in here. The couch is going to bugger up my back for sure."
"Right, that's why," Dom laughed quietly.
Billy snickered, too. "Well, sure. Why else?"
Dom's stomach was flip-flopping pleasantly as Billy scooted in beside him. They lay there for an awkward beat or two and then Billy rolled over. Dom could tell that they were facing in the same direction by the way Billy's minty breath blew in his direction. Dom frowned, realising that he hadn't thought to use Elijah's mouthwash. He wondered if Billy would mind, but decided a few seconds later that Billy probably wouldn't.
"You going to bed?" Dom asked. He winced, realising how bloody idiotic that probably sounded. Laying in bed, middle of the night, what else would they be doing?
"No, thought I'd knit a blankie." Billy said. The humor was somewhat thrown off by a well timed yawn. "I'm knackered. Why are you so far away?"
Dom didn't bother to stifle his grin, knowing he was protected by the darkness. He rolled over and Billy's found him, draping an arm over Dom's chest. "What'll you tell Elijah when he asks why we're in bed together?"
"The truth."
"..." Dom raised an eyebrow, and though Billy couldn't see, his point was still made.
"All right, not that much of the truth. Just my back, and all."
"Right. He'll buy that."
"If he doesn't remember finding us alone and in the dark on his couch."
Dom laughed, and snuggled in a little closer to Billy. "Give us a goodnight kiss?" He couldn't help asking.
Billy's laughter was soft and rumbly, making Dom shiver. "All right, then."
The kiss was softer and wet, and it led to another, and a third one after that. Billy's hands brushed over Dom's face, Dom's chest, wrapping around him. "We'll sort all of this out in the morning."
"And then shag?" Dom whispered, because all of the conversation up until that point had been in whispers, so it only made sense to keep on like that.
"Breakfast first, I think. And we go back to my flat. And then," he yawned, "shag."
"Why not mine?" Dom asked.
"Yours smells like rotten fish."
"So does your car."
"We're not shagging in my car," Billy reminded him.
"Well, not until clean it, anyway." Dom said, his chest hitching with a soft little giggle. Billy reached over and tweaked his nipple. "Ow!"
Billy's fingers rubbed at the offended spot... until Dom reached up and moved his hand away. "Eh?"
"Don't do that. Unless," It was Dom's turn to yawn, "you plan on getting to the shagging tonight."
"Tempting," Billy said, and he really did sound like he was considering it. "But I'm too tired."
"So sleep," Dom said, and leaned forward until his mouth bumped against Billy's jaw. There was another kiss... slow and sleepy and delicious. "I like that."
"Wha?" Billy barely sounded awake himself.
"Being able to kiss you."
"Oh," Billy said. He managed to sound incredibly pleased, even with just that one little syllable.
"Goodnight, Billy." Dom said. He tucked his head against Billy's shoulder and fell asleep listening to the soft whistling of Billy's breathing.
