It was fresh after the season’s first rain, the scent of wet leaves cloying heavily on the morning breeze. The fey folk, hidden during the showers, now flitted delicately about the high branches, laughing and chattering, relieved to be once more in the open air.
Away from the cheerful noise, on a delicate lattice of branches, a young faery sat quiet, thin wings folded around thinner shoulders, his golden skin faded. He’d been waiting for days now, watching for Wim, the king’s son. The princling had gone with his father’s company, a week before, to the low grounds, for dealings with the Earthen Folk. He had not yet returned, and though none else seemed concerned, for the lonesome faery, it was cause for worry.
Sighing, he rose from his post, flitting over towards a group of fey women, who sat in a circle, weaving cobwebs into fine clothing with clicking claws, their rainbow of faces alight with the task.
“Mir,” he hissed quietly, trying to attract the scarlet faery’s attention. A delicate, pointed ear flicked his way, but no response came from his childhood friend. He hissed again, and crimson locks whipped her face as she turned, a scowl upon pert features.
“Dami!” she scolded, gnashing pointed teeth in mock threat, “Bother us, you do!”
“We sorry, Mir,” he said, steel eyes peeking through golden lashes, contrition on his face. “But…heard word, have you?”
The young she-faery rolled sparkling eyes, and, after excusing herself, gently but firmly pulled Dami to a secluded location. Sympathy heavy in her voice, she asked, “Back yet, they are not?”
“No.”
“Ah, Dami. Mean bad, this does not. Wim is careful, he is. Will come back safe.” Her sweet claws combed through his unruly locks, her motherly instincts shining through. “We hates to see you sad, Dami.”
He smiled weakly.
“Sad, we are not. We just misses him.”
Mir smiled, and patted him, once more, before flying away. Dami sighed again, kicking his feet idly as he was wont to do when hovering in place. After a moment or two, the moisture still thick in the surrounding air became a too much for his delicate wings, and he drifted back to his branch, settling himself for more long hours of waiting.

hush you, sleep on into the night
worry no more for creatures that bite
the goddess, she holds you, small in her hand
keeps you from harm, from gnome, owl, and Man
The soft lullaby woke him, and Dami blinked, disoriented in the sudden dark. Night had fallen while he slept, tiring at his post. He yawned, showing pointed teeth and a pink tongue, and turned to look at his waker. And glowed, vibrant gold flushing his skin once more.
“Wim!” he chatted excitedly, leaning forward to press sparking kisses over the beloved face, hearing the other’s laughter, clear like bells in the moonlight.
“Ah, Dami. Missed you, we have.” The pale face shone with happiness, thick white mane falling into mossy eyes. His silver wings folded around Dami, crushing them both together as they kissed, wicked tongues flicking between soft lips to catch one another, as surely as they were caught themselves.
Wim pulled Dami down beside him after a long moment, the two curling together, elegant limbs entwined. “Be alone, out here, you should not. Is dangerous, Dami.”
He nodded sleepily, burrowing his squashed nose into Wim’s shoulder, happily inhaling the scent of rain and nectar clinging to his skin. Fuzzily, he remembered to ask where Wim had been all this time, but before he could, sleep took him once more.

You know how much I love 'Brandy and Charcoal'?
Yes? Increase that tenfold and you'll just about touch on how much I love this. It's so delicate and enchanting, and just, Oh My God, amazing. I, I just...Wow. It's so good, I can't even bring myself to squee about it and ruin the magic.
You, my dear, are amazing. This is so, so beautiful.
And I'm completely heartbroken that it's only five parts! From:
