Clearing the empty mugs from the table, Dom stood at the sink, a strange feeling in his stomach. He missed Billy. It hadn't been ten minutes, and he was desperately missing the other man.

"You've turned into a sap, Monaghan," he muttered to himself, leaving the kitchen for the living room. He searched through the stack of papers on the bookshelf, smiling triumphantly when he found the white business card.

Viggo walked into the living room in time to hear Dom ending his phone call. "The ring is at the store waiting for you, Vig. I told them that you'd be by to pick it up sometime today."

“I have a surprise for you Dominic.” Viggo nodded “I took the liberty of inviting other members of the fellowship and beyond, only people who will be able to be here in time. I thought you might like your extended family to be here for the occasion.”

Dom knew that Viggo disapproved of their engagement and loved him even more for going out of his way to make it a beautiful time for them.

“Thanks Viggo,” he murmured. “Who can make it?”

“I thought the surprise might be nice. I contacted them last night, that’s the reason for my solo expedition; I’m collecting a couple from the airport while I’m out. Others won’t arrive until this evening, but they’ll be here.”

“You don’t have to do that Vig.” Dom spoke as he folded Elijah’s bedding.

“I do. You are my hobbits.” He shrugged “I like my hobbits to be happy.”

“We are and we will be.” Dom nodded.

"That's all I want for the both of you; that's all any of us want." Viggo took the business card from the coffee table, placing it in the brown paper bag he carried.

"Orlando's in the bedroom calling the rest of the cast," Viggo told him slipping his shoes on. "I'll leave the tidying up of the house to the both of you."

Dom agreed, setting the folded blanket and pillow to one side of the couch.

"Have you given any more though to what you want to do tonight? A song? A poem?" asked Viggo as he bent down to pick up his paper bag.

"I can't think of anything, Vigs," Dom admitted, kneeling on the couch to face Viggo. "I've looked through songs, and poems, and vows, and nothing seems right."

"Maybe you should stop looking at the words of others," advised Viggo, "and start looking at your own words. Just say what's in your heart. He'll love it."

“I know that but I want to make it special. He probably has a song picked that he’s known he wanted since he first realized he loved me, and all I have is words.”

“But they’ll be your words and that will make them more special to him then anything else.”

“Who made you so wise?” Dom smiled at him

“I’m the King. It’s my job.” Viggo grinned maniacally. “When the lovely Emilie returns can you keep her and the Ringbearer busy for me?”

“Why?” Dom frowned.

“This king isn’t ready to be a grandfather and she’s leading him astray.”

“She’s a good girl and for all her insanity there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for a friend. Besides I’ll let you in on a little secret. I think she’s in love with him.”

“After one night?” Viggo’s eyebrow’s shot upwards

“No after Fellowship. I think she has every movie any of us has ever made. She was a squealing little Rings fangirl when I met her, but she is the best friend I have outside of the fellowship. She’s a lot calmer now than she was before. If this morning had happened a year ago she would have gone into cardiac arrest.”

"Although I'm sure that was meant to have reassured me, I'm not sure if it does," Viggo told him honestly. "We have a young lady who is getting to spend time with someone that she has lusted over for the past five years, and we have a young man who has been starved for attention the past few weeks. But those two together, add the warm Hawaiian sun, and shake, and you've got me babysitting in nine months."

Dom grinned and nodded his head okay.

"In fact, why don't we make celibacy the word of the day for everyone? You can pass the memo along to Orlando as well."

"As your Majesty commands," Dom said bowing his head. His eyes turned serious for a moment, though the smile on his face remained. "I bet you're glad that you don't have to worry about that with Billy and me."

"I'm not, actually. I think you and Billy would have beautiful children together," he ruffled Dom's beach-blonde hair. "I've seen pictures of you as Charlie, with the baby. You'd make an excellent father, Dom."

“A lot of the time it’s a lifelike doll, but I love my scenes with the wee ones.” Dom smiled, “There’s something so pure and trusting about babies. And you’re right we’ve already discussed it one day you will be a grand daddy for us.”

Viggo nodded, “How does Emilie feel about elves?” he asked

“She can take or leave them I think, except for your personal elf of course, why?” he frowned.

“There may be more than one here tonight. I just wanted to know if I need ear protection.”

“You should be fine. The only one I’ve ever seen her silent for is Liv; I think she’s a little awestruck by our Arwen.”

“Good to know.” Viggo smiled. “Now go clean or whatever it is your instructions were.”
"Aye aye, Captain," Dom saluted, waving to Viggo as he left. He picked up Elijah's bedding, whistling as he made his way to the room. He set the blanket and pillow down on the bed, smiling when he saw a few of Emilie's things intermingled with Elijah's on the dresser.

He poked his head into Orlando's room, indicating to the Elf that he was still there. He wandered back to his room, questioning whether or not he should rent a hotel room for his and Billy's first night as an engaged couple.

Picking up the phone, he gazed at the picture of his parents on his night table. He and Billy had phoned them last night, and although they were surprised at the timing of the announcement, they were nonetheless thrilled at the idea. Tears sprung to Dom's eyes, remembering how his mother had cried, upset that she was going to miss her baby getting engaged. He made a mental note to call them before the announcement so that they would be able to hear it.

"Everyone's been called, and everyone's coming," Orlando said coming in to sit beside him. "What's next on the agenda?"

"Viggo wants us to tidy the house," Dom sniffed, trying to discretely wipe his eyes.

"Everything okay, Sblomie?" Orlando asked his friend. "You're not getting cold feet are you?"

Dom shook his head adamantly. "I'm just thinking about my mom: she really wanted to be here. No way about the cold feet; I've never been so sure of anything in my entire life."

"That's good to hear. You do realize that you're about to make Billy the happiest person in the entire universe, right?"

“Nope that spot is already filled.” Dom smiled wistfully “I’m the happiest person in the entire universe, but yeah I do know.”

“Since this is only your engagement can’t we organize a big legal wedding or something, somewhere we can have lots of planning and let your mum and Emilie go wild with the organization. This can just be your dress rehearsal.”

“You know Orli sometimes you’re not just the prettiest.” He reached out to ruffle Orlando’s hair.

“Dave and I wanted to give you something for tonight but we weren’t sure what.” Orli shrugged and smiled. “In the end we decided that you two deserve something special so when the time comes we’re taking you with us. We’ve booked you and Billy into the honeymoon suite of the place we’re staying at tonight.”

“You didn’t have to do that.” Dom spoke embracing him tightly.

“Yes we did. You’re our good luck charms.” He laughed.

"Good luck charms? Not sure about that. I think the two of you would have found your way together. We're really happy for you, Orli."

A red tint appeared on Orlando's cheeks as he pulled Dom in for another hug. "Gosh, look at us getting all sappy. We’re men, damn it! We should be drinking beer and going to a strip joint to celebrate your potentially last day as a single man."

Dom laughed, messing up the brown curls. "Before we start acting like men, we've got a house to clean and food to order."

"You handle the food and your overnight bags, and I'll start the cleaning," Orlando said standing up. He patted Dom on the shoulder and left, whistling "Going to the Chapel" on his way out.

Dom called the catering company that the Lost production team used, ordering a typical Hawaiian feast, complete with a roasted pig with an apple in its mouth. He then packed a bag for himself and Billy, his heart beating faster with every item placed in the bag. By the time he was finished, his hands were trembling, and he had to sit on the bed and do a series of yoga breathing exercises to calm himself down.

Calmed, Dom went out to help Orlando, shocked to find that the other man had cleaned the majority of the house himself.

"It's your engagement party. Go and sit outside, I'll just finish in here and I'll join you in minute," Orlando shooed him out of the kitchen, flicking a damp towel at his butt.

Moving out to the lanai he sat on one of the lounges there watching the water roll in on the sand, hearing a several car doors opening he got up to wander around the side of the house thinking it was the caterers.

As he rounded the corner of the house he saw Viggo climbing out of his car and three of their Rings cast mates with him.

A broad smile split his face “Karl.” He greeted the first one to lookup and see him, he jogged the short distance to the car and pulled Karl into a tight hug, pulling Craig in for a similar greeting right after. Walking around to the other side of the car he leaned up and kissed Miranda on the cheek then drew her in for a tight bear hug.

“Good trip guys?” he asked “Thanks for coming by the way.”

"We've been waiting years for this," Miranda said, pushing back the long strands of hair from his forehead, "there was no way we'd miss it."

Dom kissed her cheek again, looking at the men in front of him. "Well, Billy and I are just surprised that we made it to the altar before you two did," he raised an eyebrow at Karl and Craig. "Isn't it about time you made an honest man out of Karl, Mr. Parker?"

It was only after the words had left Dom's mouth that he noticed how uncomfortable the two men looked. The usually close couple were standing as far apart as politely possible, their body language screaming tension.

Thankfully, the sound of a graceful elf hitting the sand interrupted their conversation.

"Stupid sand," Orlando muttered, jumping up as quickly as he had fallen down.

"Allo, mates! Finally, kinfolk," he laughed throwing his arms around Craig.

“I’ve been outnumbered by hobbit folk for far too long.” He grinned.

“So show me?” Miranda spoke pulling at the collar of Dom’s shirt “Do we get to see war wounds?”

“It’s almost gone now, bruising is still there but it doesn’t hurt anymore.” Dom shrugged.

‘C’mon inside, dump your gear and I’ll take you for the guided beach tour.” He smiled. “Billy is going to be so pleased to see all of you.

“What else is new?” Miranda spoke breaking the tense silence that had been shrouding her and her traveling companions.

“Lij has a girlfriend, and Orlando and Daisy are an item now.”

"It's about time," she said, turning back to wink at Orlando, "and Elijah has a girlfriend? Really."

"She's scary." Orlando bounced up to walk beside Miranda and Dom, lacing his elbow with hers. "I'd stay away from her: you might lose an ear drum if not."

Dom leaned across Miranda, trying to hit Orlando. "She's really not that bad, Mir. Her name's Emilie; she plays Claire on Lost. She's just a huge Rings fan and gets a little excited when she sees her favourites."

"Crazy is more like it," Orlando muttered under his breath, running back to Craig's side at Dom's glaring look.

Viggo and Karl were paces behind everyone, their heads bent down, deep in conversation. "Is everything alright between Karl and Craig?" Dom whispered to Miranda, as he led her in the front door. "I didn't mean to make them uncomfortable talking about them getting married."

“I know the one you mean she’s cute they’ll look sweet together.” She smiled “We’re so behind with Lost you’ll have to catch me up.” She glanced back towards her companions. “I’m not sure, neither of them said a word to each other on the way here, I’m thinking that not everyone’s path to romance is as smooth as you two.” She grinned at him. “You are positively glowing Mr. Monaghan. Is that all Billy’s doing?”

“What do you think?” he grinned throwing an arm around her shoulder and leading her towards the beach.

"I think that I can't think of any two people more deserving of this happiness than the two of you," she told him. "I'm going to tell him the same thing, so don't take offence: but if you hurt him, I'll kill you."

Dom laughed, squeezing her shoulder affectionately. "I know better than cross a maiden of Rohan. I'm going to spend the rest of my life making him happy."

"Just love him. That's all he needs." The two continued along the beach, Dom catching Miranda up on Lost and the relationships formed since his accident.

They were making their way back to the house, shoes in hand as they walked along the waters edge, when a loud shriek startled them both.

"What in the heavens was that?" Miranda asked, eyes scanning the beach for someone hurt.

Dom blushed and ducked his head. "Brace yourself. That's Emilie."

“Good Lord.” Miranda grinned “What caused that?”

“My guess is Karl, she’s got a bit of a thing for the Rohirrim, but it may well have been Craig.” He wrinkled his nose “She doesn’t usually go for the elves though, only Orli.” He stopped outside the door. “Deep breath ‘Randy, you’re about to meet Hurricane Emilie.” He pushed the door open and ushered her in before him.

Emilie smiled as she saw their new guest and almost bounced across the room pulling Miranda into a tight hug of greeting. “Hi Miranda, I’m Emilie, but you can call me Emi.” She greeted her at almost dulcet tones.

Dom’s eyes scanned the room, noticing the mountains of shopping bags adorning all available surfaces. Skirting around the side of the room he stopped at Elijah’s side and spoke softly.

“Do I even want to ask?” he gesticulated around them.

Elijah turned his head to look at Dom, his eyes blank. "Do you know how many different shades of green there are in the world, Dom? No. I can tell you. I can also tell you which shades will better compliment, and I quote Dom," Elijah said making quotation mark symbols with his fingers, "Billy's pretty green eyes. I can tell you that. I can name about fifteen different candles, because no, not all candles are the same."

Dom covered his mouth to keep from laughing out loud, though the expression on Elijah's face was making it difficult. "You had that much fun, huh?"

Elijah blinked as if seeing Dom for the first time. "We went to nearly a hundred stores, I'm sure."

"There aren't a hundred stores in this area, Lij," Dom snorted, his shoulders shaking.

"She built some then; when you weren't looking. First, we went to all the stores and saw what they had. Then we stood outside and discussed what we, what she wanted. Then we went back to the stores to compare colors and prices and ambiance and stuff!" Elijah leaned against the wall closing his eyes. "The scary thing is, it only took us about a half an hour. She's got more energy than the Tasmanian devil. I think she is the Tasmanian devil."

Dom looked at his friend, noticing a strange mark on his neck. "If shopping only took thirty minutes, why are you just getting back now? You've been gone for nearly three hours," he commented, poking at the mark on Elijah's neck.

“We stopped for a coffee.” He smiled. “And she had to find a dress to wear tonight.” he added.

“So what’s the real verdict?” Dom asked quietly.

“I really like her.” Elijah murmured. “She confuses the hell out of me and keeps me guessing and on my toes but I like her.”

“She’s not as tough as you’d think. And her fangirling I think is a cover to hide her nerves. She’s a good girl Lij and she’s probably my best friend outside the fellowship.” He paused “Lij I love you like a brother, you know that, but you hurt Miss Emi and you and I will have words……serious words.”

Elijah nodded and then looked Dom square in the eye. "Dom, I love you like a brother, you know that, but if you hurt Mr. Boyd, you and I will have words...serious words."

Dom hugged Elijah tightly. "I'm glad we understand each other then," he whispered in Elijah's ear.

Emilie's infectious giggle drew their attention back to the room, and they watched as she gave Karl, Craig, and Orlando instructions as to how to decorate the backyard.

"Has anyone heard from Daisy?" Orlando asked looking at his watch.

"He just called," Viggo answered, coming in from the living room. He closed his phone and sighed at the state of the kitchen.

"He and Billy should be back in about twenty minutes, and if I'm not mistaken, the caterers are pulling into the driveway as we speak."

“Dom,” Emilie called. “I’ve made you a hair appointment and Viggo is going to take you to my place so you can change.” She pushed her hands against her hips as she saw his frown. “I mean it Charlie boy, you’re not seeing Billy again at least until the party.”

“Pushy Aussie.” He pouted at her inducing riotous cat calls from the rest of their companions, as he followed Viggo into the living room.

“That leaves us at a loose end until Daisy gets back.” Emilie walked up to Elijah and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Any thoughts?”

"I can think of a few things," Elijah whispered, biting down softly on her bottom lip. Forgetting the other people in the room, he swiped her bottom lip with his tongue, then pulled her in for a deep kiss.

Miranda smiled watching at the two lost themselves in each other while Karl and Craig shifted uncomfortably, avoiding the other's stare.

"Excuse me," Orlando interrupted. "If Dom and Billy can't have any, and Daisy and I can't have any, there's no way that you two are going to get any. Come on, lover boy. You can help us figure out what to do with votive candles."

“My Em is the candle queen she’ll have to show you.” Elijah murmured, his hands slipping to her hips and holding her against him. “tonight.” He whispered into her ear before he released her, content to watch her flutter amongst his friends and organize the decorations.

Watching them he couldn’t help but notice that Craig was not really involving himself in the general hilarity that was Em’s decorating advice. “Crazy isn’t she?” Elijah murmured as Craig passed him arms filled with goods Emilie wanted relocated.

Hearing Elijah's voice, Craig turned back to look at the shorter man, blinking his eyes in confusion. "I'm fine, thank you," he answered, forcing a smile on his face.

"Craig, is everything okay?" Elijah asked, looking at the dark-haired man with worried eyes. He followed Craig's gaze to where Karl stood laughing with Orlando, and smiled sympathetically.

"Sorry, Lij," Craig said apologetically. "I have a lot on my mind at the moment."

"If you need a sounding board, I'm here for you," he told him, not wanting to push Craig about his relationship with Karl. It had been a shock to most of the Rings cast when the two had began dating during filming. They seemed so different from one and another, but they had proved the nay-sayers wrong and had lasted far longer than most would have thought.

“I’ll be fine.” Tears glistened on dark lashes as he spoke. “I was fine.” He shrugged. “Don’t pay any attention to me, just seeing so many people so happy reminds me of how miserable I really am.”

“I meant it Craig; I’m here if you want someone to talk to.” Lij offered.

“Thanks, Lij.” He spoke quickly “It’s nothing unusual really, he’s going to be a huge star, he’s already taking off and we don’t exactly fit any more, we fight more than we love, we barely even speak. I know he’s seeing someone else. I just can’t let go.”

"No. No, he's not. He loves you, and you love him," Elijah insisted, unwilling to believe that Karl would cheat on Craig. "The two of you just need to spend some time together. Hawaii is a great place for lovers; you guys will be fine."

"No we won't, Lij," Craig said quietly, placing the items in his hands down. "But, we're both actors and we'll put on happy faces for Dom and Billy. We won't let our problems ruin their night."

"Is there anything I can do?" Elijah pulled out the various decorations from the bags, his heart breaking for his friend.

"Give me the courage to let him go?"

“I’ll do better than that.” Elijah nodded and extended a hand for Craig to shake. “We’ll find you someone who deserves you. Nobody should be alone here. If only for the weekend, we’ll find someone who can make you smile.”

“I don’t think I’m ready for that.” Craig shook his head.

“You don’t have to pledge your eternal devotion to them Craig.” He smiled, “Just have fun for the weekend.”

“I guess that sounds like a plan.” Craig replied shaking Elijah’s hand smiling for the first time in what seemed a lifetime.

The two men continued decorating their section of the backyard, reminiscing about New Zealand and talking about the whirlwind that was Emilie.

They had just finished putting the finishing touches on the tables the caterers had brought when David and a nervous-looking Billy waved from the kitchen.

"Nice work," Emilie commented, sneaking up behind Elijah. She wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed the back of his neck. They watched as David and Craig greeted each other with a hug, neither of them missing the scowl on Karl's face.

"What's with the two of them? I've never seen such a poor attempt at pretending to be happy," she asked, moving around so that she was now resting against Elijah's chest.

“All is not happy, Craig thinks Karl is cheating, but aside from that he says they’re all but finished, he just doesn’t have the courage to end it.”

“That’s so sad.” Emilie spoke tears in her eyes.

“I told him we can help. We need to find someone who can put a smile on his face for the weekend. Do you know anybody?” Lij whispered as he nuzzled against her ear.

“Of course I do,” she smiled “And he’s already invited tonight. Want me to drop some subtle hints?” she grinned

Elijah hesitated, certain that her idea of subtle differed largely from his. "Why don't we see how things go, and if they need a little nudge," he stressed the word 'little,' "then we'll help them out."

"You're so smart, Liji," she giggled, placing a wet kiss on his cheek. They held each other for a minute, swaying to an imaginary song, before the noise of their friends drew them away.

"I'm going to get dressed now," Emilie told Elijah dragging him towards the house. "I'll call you if I need help zipping up my dress. Why don't you see if you can get the groom to breathe in a paper bag or something."

The groom in question was currently standing apart from his guest, the look of pure terror written across his tiny face.

Elijah almost laughed as he saw Billy’s terrified face. He walked quickly to his side and placed a gentle hand on his back, wincing when he startled him.

“You need to talk to someone, will I do?” Elijah asked “And you know what? It wouldn’t hurt you to breathe either.”

“I need Dom” Billy murmured. “This is silly we should have thought more about this, talked more about it, planned it, something. This whole thing has spiralled out of control.”

“Do you love him?” Elijah asked softly.

Billy looked at him as if he was mad. “Of course I do, more than I want to take my next breath.” He answered honestly.

“Then it’ll all be fine. This is a declaration of your mutual love nothing more. As long as you love each other the rest of this is all superfluous.”

Billy winked at Elijah as he bounced out the room, Emilie's giggles echoing throughout the house. Looking at his watch, Billy hurriedly stripped out of his clothes, and made his way to the shower.

Forgoing a shave, as he knew that Dom liked him a bit scruffy, Billy stepped out of the steamy bathroom fifteen minutes later, the sounds of arriving guests greeting him.

Humming a Scottish melody, he slipped into the bright Hawaiian shirt and stared in confusion at the piece of fabric lying on the bed. He wrapped the fabric around his waist, trying to remember how to tie the sarong, cursing as the knot loosened and pooled around his ankles.

"Come in," he yelled out at the sound of a soft knock.

"I came to see if you needed any help," Miranda smiled at him, stepping into the room and closing the door behind her. "Here, let me."

She looped the fabric around his hips and tied an expert knot at his hip. "How’s that?"

"Perfect thanks." He nodded shaking his hips and testing the knot "'S'not so different to the kilt really, except it's not wool and it's not buckled on, and well I can't wear my sporran." He laughed "Not really the same then is it?"

"No but it still looks good on you." She laughed.

Billy looked into the mirror and twisted to check "Maybe." He nodded. "It's good to see you here Miranda." Billy smiled at her sitting down on the edge of the bed.

"You're so good together Billy." She took his hand. "Dom is practically glowing and you are too."

"Nervous." He murmured holding her hand tightly. "This is a big step for us both, but it could be suicide for his career."

"That’s ridiculous; you know he doesn't care about any of that crap." She replied. "He loves you he always has."

"I know but with this coming on top of his amnesia I don't want him to feel rushed. We could have waited for a while."

"You don't think 6 years is long enough to wait." Miranda raised her eyebrows.

"I'm glad you put some thought into that answer, Mir," he laughed.

"Do you know how much money Sala won from us? We had a bet going on to see when the two of you would fall into bed and he decided to be different and bet against all of us. You two owe the Fellowship a lot of money," she told him, causing him to fall back on the bed in giggles.

"The two of you are ready for this. Just have faith in your love."

“I have faith in our love; it’s everything else that I don’t.”

“You always were a worrier.” Miranda tousled his hair as she stood. “I think I need to go get changed, or at least make sure Karl and Craig haven’t killed each other yet.”

“They aren’t happy any more are they.” Billy sighed sadly.

“Nope.” She replied “It was like being in the middle of the cold war on the flight.”

Billy shook his head and stood to wrap his arms around Miranda. “Thank you for coming Miranda, it means a lot to me, to us.”

"My pleasure." She kissed him on the cheek and strolled to the door. "Take a few minutes to relax, enjoy your last few minutes as a single man. Jorge is keeping everyone entertained, so there's no rush."

Am waiting for hell to meet handbasket. Should be a fun ride!

I heard this song on the radio a few times and (I must say) I hated it. I pretty much hate anything remotely close to country music. Then, I read this story. Now, every time I hear the song, I don't hate it (thoguh I still don't like it a great deal) and it always makes me think of Billy and Dom, and therefore absolutely tolerable. Thank you so much for making good memories of this song!

Look! I'm finally catching up on THIS fic now! I had forgotten some of it, so I had to go back and reread the last few chapters. I had almost forgotten how much I loved this. I think my favorite character is Emilie without a doubt. Likening her to the Tasmanian Devil? Too funny! I like the contrast of her with Miranda who is so solid and sensible. I can't wait to read the next chapter, so I am going to do just that!
