PG this chapter, up to NC-17 total

Notes: High school au! Oh yeah, bring on the cheesy teenage angst. Total chapter number subject to change. I am writing in advance, so I do know that it will be at least ten, but I can't promise not to go over.

As always, for my [livejournal.com profile] maverick0324, as her wish is my command.

On Wednesday, Miranda sat at their table during lunch. She smiled very sweetly and let Orlando have her banana and told a funny story about a girl in her class that morning. She snorted when she laughed a little, and poked Billy in the arm when he made fun of her.

Dom spent the forty-five minutes staring at his plate.

Had he actually looked up, he might have caught Billy staring at him with a puzzled look on his face. He might have seen Billy giving Sean and equally confused look, when Sean tried to explain without saying a word, and failed miserably. He might have seen Billy finally roll his eyes and dismiss Sean (in that way that people often did when Sean started on a tangent clear only in the deepest recesses of his mind) and then let his hand rest over Miranda’s underneath the table. He might have seen Miranda’s cheeks turn a little pinker and her smile widen a little.

But he didn’t, and maybe that was a good thing.

Sprawled out on Dom’s floor Thursday night, surrounded by Chinese cartons and notebooks.

“How’s it coming?”

Billy peered over at Dom, chewing his bite of wonton thoughtfully. “Not bad. I was just thinking-“

“Let me guess: Miranda.” Dom sat up and grinned, a foolish exaggeration.

Billy rolled his eyes. “No. Not Miranda. I was thinking about this summer.”

”Oh?” Dom perked up a little. Summer plans were always nice.

“I thought maybe we could drive down to the beach for a few days.” Billy rolled over onto his side and pillowed his head on his arm. “You’ve got your car now, and I’ve been saving up…” They both worked part time after school and on some weekends at a video store.

“Me, too. And we’re definitely over sixteen now, so we can booze it up legally.” Dom sat up, excited. He could already see it in his mind – just the two of them and a hotel room, bars and pubs and waves and sand. “We can make it a whole week. You think your gran would let you?”

”She might. Would your parents?” Billy said. He knew his grandmother wasn’t the biggest obstacle. She doted just a bit too much, and relied on her deep rooted instinct – the instinct that said Billy was a good kid, and wouldn’t get in trouble.

And he wouldn’t. At least, he wouldn’t get in too much trouble. It wasn’t like he’d let Dom talk him into buying a couple of hookers or blowing up a building or anything. Unless Dom had a good reason, anyway. Or unless Dom bribed him with chocolate. Because, of course, Dom knew all of Billy’s weaknesses, and wouldn’t hesitate to use them.

”If they think we’re being carefully chaperoned, then she might…” Dom wiggled his eyebrows, making Billy laugh. “I mean, not lie or anything. Just sort of… lead them. We can tell them that we’re going with some of Elijah’s folks from America, or something. ”

”That’d be so cool. We could learn how to surf!” Dom said, turning to stare at the surfboard leaning against his wall. He’d never once used it, though his desire to learn had been enough to inspire the board being given as a Christmas gift one year, from his parents.

“Right. Surfing, and swimming, and just hanging out.” Billy said.

”Wild days!” Dom bounced a little on his haunches. He laughed maniacally and launched himself at Billy, tackling Billy and rolling them both over. “It’ll be fan-fucking-tastic.”

Billy tried to squirm away from Dom’s tickling fingers, laughter catching in his throat and choking him a little. “Fuck! Stop it! Fucking-!”

When Dom calmed down and rolled off of him, he lay beside Billy. Their arms touched, and they were both smiling. “We can watch movies and drink beer and phone Lijah and Orli and tell them what a fantastic time we’re having.”

”And Sean,” Billy said. “He’ll tell us not to watch out for sharks and don’t get caught in the current and have safe sex.”

”Pffft,” Dom snorted. “Like you’d ever get laid, Boyd.”

”Hey!” Billy fwapped Dom on the shoulder. “Women go crazy for me, I’ll have you know.”

”Go crazy because of you, maybe. That fabulous wretched, ponging Boyd essence. That mmmph-“ Dom struggled as Billy’s hand covered his mouth, and then settled into licking the fleshy part of Billy’s palm. Billy made a face and jerked his hand back, then wiped it down Dom’s cheek. “Oh, sexy bastard. Is that how you pull all the girls?”

Billy didn’t call after his second date with Miranda. He did call the next morning, sounding almost apologetic, though Dom didn’t linger wondering why. “It was fun” was all he would say, no matter how much Dom asked. And Dom did ask. He asked again and again, so many times that Billy finally hung up on him, deeming the conversation not worth saving.

Dom was still asking later that day, when they finished a solid hour’s round of arcade video games in the shopping mall. He bought ice cream, and asked when he handed Billy the change. He bent to tie his shoe, and asked as he stood back up. He grabbed Billy’s arm when Billy stumbled, and asked as he steadied Billy. He waved hello to a girl he barely knew but didn’t like, and as she ambled her way to them, asked out of the corner of his mouth. He laughed when Billy hit him on the head, and the girl thought they were both out of their minds.

It was nearing nine when they got to Dom’s house. Billy’s grandmother liked him to be in by 11 on weekends, except when he stayed with Dom. It was a common occurrence, even now when the rest of their peers had long since stopped having sleepovers. Elijah once commented on it being somewhat weird (“really gay” might have been his exact words) but Orlando had hit him on the head and made a comment about his heritage, which served a proper distraction. It always worked. That, and shiny things dangled in front of his face. Orlando likes to claim it was just that he was born and raised in America that made him so stupid. The rest of them weren’t fooled; they knew it was purely Elijah. But he hasn’t made any comments again about why Dom always seemed to have some of Billy’s clothes in his dresser, and an extra toothbrush in his loo.

So it was nothing out of the ordinary when Dom asked, “Are you staying over?”

Billy shrugged and smiled. “Sure. Don’t feel like going home, anyway.” He deposited himself on Dom’s bed and yawned. “Mind if I use your phone first, though? Told Miranda I’d ring her tonight before bed.”

“Yeah, sure.” Dom said. He wasn’t sure if he should stay where he was, or go, so he settled for a mixture. He got up and went to the loo – washed his face and hands and brushed his teeth and then just stared into the mirror for a minute or two, just in case – and then went back into the bedroom.

Billy was still on the phone. He had his eyes closed and he was smiling a funny little smile that made Dom worry. Dom opened the door loudly, and Billy’s eyes popped open. He lifted his head in acknowledgement at Dom, who made scrunched up cooing faces in return. Billy flipped him off, and laughed into the phone. Dom sat on his feet until Billy hung up, making smacky kissing noises and drawing hearts in the air.

Hours later, when the room was dark and Billy was whistling in his sleep ten feet over, Dom let the smile fade from his face, and sighed.

Enjoying! *G*

Might want to change what Billy says Sean would say though... I don't think he'd tell them "not to watch out for sharks" - or would he? *L*! EVUL SEAN! *G*

Keep going!
