When Dom arrived back at the apartment, all lights were out. The dark felt comforting in a strange way. Nothing to show his clumsy steps. His disheveled clothes. He felt his way along the hall until he reached the bathroom. He dreaded turning on the light. He knew the light would be blinding and he feared waking Billy. He closed the door and leaned against it taking a deep breath to steady himself. He decided against turning the light on as he peeled his clothes off and turned on the shower.

Billy sat up in the dark and listened to the sound of water rushing from the bathroom. It was after 3 and he sighed knowing Dom was in the shower trying to wash away all evidence, but there was no washing away the obvious. He knew in a matter of minutes Dom would make his way to the bedroom, slide under the sheets and roll over to go to sleep. This had gone on for so long that it was a well defined routine. Billy would feign sleep of course and soon he would hear the familiar sounds of Dom's gentle breathing.

Some nights it took everything in him not to turn on Dom and demand to know why. Why he snuck around behind his back. Why he cheated on him. Why he treated him like a stranger more and more, but most of all why Elijah. At first he tried to ignore it. He told himself that Dom just liked staying out late and partying. He knew that from the start and accepted it. He had never been real big on the night life and he let Dom have his fun. He always came back to him and never gave him any cause to worry. But there were nights that Dom came in reeking of cigarettes and cologne that was unfamiliar to Billy. He didn't put the two together right away. He figured it was just from being out at clubs. Then the cigarette smell became familiar and he knew.

Still he refused to believe that Dom could be cheating on him, let alone with one of their best friends. But he should have known all along. It should have been obvious when Elijah called their apartment more and more, and Dom made excuses to leave and would be gone for long periods of time. And it should have been even more obvious when things between he and Dom began going down hill. They fought over the stupidest of things. Their sex life was dwindling. It seemed like Dom was doing everything he could to get away from Billy. But then there would be the times when Dom would come up behind him, kiss him softly on the nape of his neck and whisper seductively into his ear before leading him to their bedroom. It was these times that made Billy turn a blind eye. It was these times that kept Billy in denial and it was these times that Billy would come to treasure long after Dom was gone
