Title: In Plain View
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lavitanuova/[livejournal.com profile] dizzydame (same person)
Pairing: Billy/Dom
Rating: PG-13

Notes: For everyone on my flist whose birthday I've missed in the past month.

Everyone knew when Billy and Dom fought.

Dom would stomp around and snap at people and flub his lines and be a general all around arse to anyone that had the misfortune of stepping in his path.

Billy would sit quietly and watch with an air of disinterest that only served to infuriate Dom even more. He'd usually spend that time reading over his lines and studying the script, so that when Dom did mess up, he'd counter with perfect recitation and delivery, and make Dom hate him so wonderfully for it.

After shooting, they'd leave in separate cars without a word to the other.

~*~

Everyone knew when Dom was homesick.

They knew because he'd spend his breaks napping instead of running around playing Tig and chattering the makeup girl's ears off and getting into trouble with Viggo and Sir Ian. He wouldn't rise to anyone's bait and he wouldn't argue Elijah for what cd to listen to, or tease Sean about his self-pitying weight rants.

They knew because they'd see him scribbling in his journals until his pen went dry, and then they'd see him tearing a page out here and there, tearing it in pieces and then crumpling the pieces up, and tossing them in the bin.

They knew because they'd see Billy disappearing into a trailer with a plate of bagels or sandwiches or whatever he could snag from the catering tents and two tall cups of coffee, and he would not re-emerge until they were called for set. They all knew not to interrupt unless it was at Peter's command. They just let Billy work his magic, and when Dom came out, he'd seem, if not happier, just a bit more at peace with it.

~*~

No one knew that Dom and Billy were falling in love.

No one saw anything beyond what was at surface. They saw the best of mates, they saw quick wits that entwined so well the entire room would be breathless with laughter at the combination. They heard what was said, and not what was implied. They heard Dom say that Billy made the best curry in the "entire fucking world!"... not that Billy made it just for Dom, and that after they ate the spent six hours just talking about their pasts and their futures and a hundred minute details of both. When Billy told Elijah that he thought he and Dom might even make a movie together, what Elijah didn't hear was Billy trying desperately to come up with some reason why Dom absolutely had to remain in his life for longer than this movie took to film. When Billy turned down the bird that tried quite boldly to pull him right in plain view of all his mates, the rest of the table heard him say that he was a bit knackered really, twelve hour work day and all, and he just didn't think he'd be much good company. What none of them heard was Billy silently reassuring Dom that there was absolutely no place he'd rather be than sitting right beside him.

And when Billy said a few minutes later to Dom that he really was knackered and would Dom mind giving him a lift home, what no one except Dom heard was that what Billy needed at just that moment was to be alone with Dom.

~*~

Everyone knew when Dom and Billy went on their first date. Dom and Billy would have really preferred that to be kept a little more under wraps, though they'd agreed to not lie or hide the fact.

It was Orlando that found out. He'd rung up Dom to ask if he'd like to hit a few clubs, and Dom had declined, saying that he and Billy were going out for dinner.

"Hey, that sounds good, count me in. Want me to call Lij, or have you already talked to him?" Orlando had said.

"Actually," Dom responded. "It's kind of just a me and Billy thing."

"What, cousin's night out or something?"

"Something like that. Kind of. You know. More like a date."

"... a date?" Orlando very suddenly seemed confused. "Billy's gay? He never told us."

"Hey, I never said anything either. Why aren't you surprised that I am? And I think he's more bi, really."

"Everyone knows you'll shag anything. But Billy? Man. That's..." Orlando took a moment. "That's great, though. You and Billy. I can see it."

"Thanks for the endorsement, mate," Dom said, a verbal eye-roll if there ever was one. "I gotta go, Billy's gonna be here soon."

"Tell him I said hey. And don't shag on the first date, it makes you look like a tart."

~*~

Everyone knew the first time Dom and Billy had sex.

They couldn't have missed that one if they'd tried. Which some of them did.

Dom came into the makeup trailer with circles under his eyes and the biggest shite-eating grin to ever grace Wellington creasing his cheeks. Billy followed him, shaking his head and laughing at the spectacle that was Dominic Monaghan.

Before Elijah could hardly get the question out of his mouth, Dom was swearing that he wouldn't tell a word, not a SINGLE word, of what had happened, no details, not even to the perviest wanker of them all (Elijah, needless to say), not even if you paid him or bribed him, except maybe something really cool like, lifetime tickets to Man U games or a role in the next Star Wars movie or something, but even then, he'd not give it all away!

Except, some things he doesn't really have to say. Like, for example, who bottomed was quite easy to figure out from the way Dom curse when he sat down. Not that anyone wanted nor needed that kind of detail, Elijah stated quite plainly, though Dom's grin really must have been contagious, because he kept shooting them both looks that were a mixture of surprised and proud. And even if they'd missed the morning Dom show, everyone still knew, because word spread alarmingly fast around a huge set like that.

When they were invited out to dinner that night, Dom and Billy's eyes met across the few feet of space between them, and they both grinned on cue, and declined the offer politely. Viggo sighed dramatically and shook his head, not even bothering to ask. It wasn't like he even needed to; who didn't already know?

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE SO FUCKING MUCH OMG.

Okay now some ACTUAL comments... I love how you can SEE what you're describing... Like I can see Dom being sad and homesick and lonely and Oh! Happy day!

I think my favourtie passage was the one about them falling in love because it was just so beautiful and theirs no one else saw it going on.

Oh, love. You are my absolute favorite. This is just fantastic and sweet and wonderful and I want to hold it close to keep me warm. I especially love the first date bit- and Dom's reaction to getting shagged! They are just so lovely together. Mmmmm.

*pulls a face somewhere between laughter and that classic 'awwww' expression*

That's about the cutest fic I've read in months. Goodness me, I think I'm in love. I'm putting this in my memories to take out and cuddle lots more. That's a perfect bedtime story. I will sleep wonderfully now...while visions of Monaboyd dance in my head.

Lovely

I like it so much because it's sweet, but not sugar-schmoopy kind of sweet. I like how you describe the change in their relationship--all details are well-chosen and descriptive--although I don't see their relationship so much in terms of a "change," but more like a smooth, and dare I say, inevitable? :D, progression, from friendship to love.

(And somehow I have a feeling that Dom won't be able to keep the details to himself--not because he has a big mouth, but because he won't be able to contain his happiness within himself ;-) )

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback! And you're right, I don't see Dom being able to keep it in. ;)
