Dom could feel the cool air on his bare chest from the fan beside him on the nightstand. He opened his eyes slightly, just enough to barely see the orange glow of fresh sunrise streaming in through the window. Not wanting to wake up just yet, he closed his eyes again and lazily rolled over onto his other side.

He stretched his arm out beside him on the bed. There was nothing there but crumpled sheets. A quick surge of panic went through his body, and for a moment he could feel his face getting hot with nervousness. He sat up quickly, and was relieved to see Billy sitting straight ahead of him in the wicker chair by the window. Completely still, with his legs up and knees held close to his body, Billy was staring intently at the horizon. Dom let out a sigh before closing his eyes again.

"Billy?" he moaned lazily, before lying back down on the bed.

    No answer.

Dom opened his eyes and sat up again. The sun was rising quickly, and it was if every single moment it casted a different color on Billy's face. His green eyes stood out against the shades of the early morning.

"Bills?" he said, a little more clearly this time.

"Mmmm?" Billy finally replied, still not really snapping out of it.

    "You okay?"

    "Yeah, I'm fine. Just...ya’ know."

Dom slowly stood up and walked over to the chair where Billy was sitting. He rested his hand on the chair's arm, just barely touching Billy's skin. He looked out the window where Billy was staring to see if there was something in particular that was holding his attention. But there was nothing there. Nothing but the gently swaying palms, empty beach, tall grass, and rocking ocean.

They had been on this little island in Hawaii for a little over a week, but it still seemed like not nearly long enough. It could never be long enough for Dom.

"No, I don't know. Tell me."

Billy lifted his head and stared straight into Dom's eyes. Dom felt so many emotions rushing over him just from one glance into those eyes, yet he could never read the emotions behind them. And he wasn’t sure that he really wanted to be able to read them. But sometimes it frustrated him to know that anything he was ever feeling, no matter what it was, Billy always knew. Even before he ever opened his mouth, Billy always knew. Billy always knew exactly how to talk to him when he felt confused, hold him when he felt lost, touch him when he felt alone, and kiss him when he felt hopeless.

But especially now, Dom could tell there was something different. Something wasn't the same and he couldn't bear to look at those eyes anymore. It made him hurt too much, hurt to know that things wouldn't always be like this. Hurt to think that they wouldn't always be together. Hurt to think that maybe Billy didn't love him as much as he wanted him to.

He clenched his eyes shut and bent over slowly, placing a soft kiss on Billy's forehead before sitting down at the foot of the chair. They just sat there in silence for a short moment, the two of them captured by the brilliance of the sight before them, a scene that couldn't be as easily enjoyed in any part of L.A.

"This has been amazing, hasn't it?"

    "Dom..."

"I mean, it's so beautiful here it almost hurts."

    "Dom, y--"

"I just wanna, like, soak it all up. Ya’ know Bills?"

    "Dom, I--"

    "We could stay here forever."

"Stop it." Billy said, still quiet but more forceful this time. There was another pause before Billy, almost apologetically, reached his arm down to stroke the messy blond hairs on Dominic's head at his feet.

    "Billy, you know I lo--"

    "Just watch the sun. "

This is a very nice first fic. Very poignant and especially nicely done at the end. Their characterizations are very good, and I look forward very much to seeing more from you.
