Summary: William Boyd has just recently moved from Scotland to New York and is working as a cop at the 16th Precinct. He meets his new partner there Dominic Monaghan and begins his new crazy life with his wild and lovely partner.

The lights exploded in a whirl of green, red, orange, and sliver while a loud boom shook the very heavens. The streaking lights created sparkling hue over the night sky then soon descended upon the earth a moment later dissipating into nothingness. A small girl raised her delicate hand towards the sky as if wanting to grasp hold of the pretty flecks of color, eager to become one with them. A smile lit up her pretty young face, which caused the youth beside her to chuckle lightly. He took hold of one of the out stretched hands in his own and gave it a soft squeeze.
"Someday sister we shall join those lights in the sky," he told her softly.

A TV was playing in the dark living room. A woman was on the screen talking into a microphone while red lights flashed through the midnight sky behind her. The TV cracked and flickered several times threatening to lose its picture. A small hand slammed heavily against the side of the TV setting the picture right once more. The mute button on the TV was flicked off allowing the sound of the woman's voice to break through the still air. Shouts could be heard from the paramedics that were working like clock work behind her. Running with stretchers and yelling if 'they were still okay.'
"We have just arrived at a site just a ways out side of Manhattan," claimed the reporter who was trying to get in among the action. "We have just learned that a hit and run has occurred and one person is being taken to the hospital in critical condition."
The TV flickered once more and then went dark.

William looked up at the towering building before him, causing a shuddering breath of fear and excitement to dance through his lips. His lower abdomen also danced in a peculiar way. He had never worked on such a large police force before, which was an overwhelming thought in itself. Just new to New York, fresh out of Scotland he had felt overwhelmed at the thought of working for the Manhattan police force.
Taking another long look at the 16th precinct, William grasped a hold of one of the double doors and carefully opened it and walked inside. As he stepped into the buzzing metropolis of police officers, he noticed some of the cops escorting men in hand cuffs to the elevators most likely heading for the interrogation floor.
Carefully William wound his way through the mass of people running around as the air hummed with talk and once in awhile a gruff bark from one of the German shepherds that were being tugged along by an officer.
Finally William managed to get himself safely to the head desk and peered over the side to find a young blonde woman typing in a flurry at her computer. William cleared his throat and the young lady looked up from her typing to eye the person who had interrupted her from her work. Her eyes fell on William and suddenly held a look of mirth.
"What can I do for you sugar?" she asked in a sweet tone a smile creeping over her fine features.
"Umm…" William stuttered slightly before he found his voice. "My name is William Boyd and I have just transferred to the 16th precinct."
"Okay sug just let me quickly run a scan through our files and we should have you set up in no time to meet with the chief," she gave him a kind smile before she turned to her computer once more, fingers flying once again.
About three minutes had passed when she turned back to him.
"Looks like everything is in order, if you just step onto the elevators over there then head to the fourth floor the chief shall see you," she supplied helpfully. "Just turn to your right when you get off the elevator and follow the hall until you reach the end. His office shall be the door on the right."
"Thank you very much," responded William happy that the first person he had already met had been so kind and helpful.
He turned on his heels ready to take his leave, though before he could get very far he heard the young woman pipe up once more. Causing him to turn and face the woman again.
"William, I forgot to introduce myself my name is Donna and if you are ever in need of a date don't hesitate to call," she yelled happily from behind the desk as she waved good-bye to William.
William laughed lightly and yelled in return. "I shall be sure to do so Donna thanks for the invitation." With a parting wave he rushed over to the elevators and pressed the arrow pointing upwards and waited to here for the ping, and swoosh of the elevator doors.
When he reached the fourth floor, the double doors slid open emitting him on to the floor. Just as Donna had instructed him he turned right and followed the hall until he came to the end. Looking to his right he found himself in front of a plain looking door with fogged glass covering the upper portion.
Drawing in another shuddering breath William raised his hand to the door and rapped on it softly. When no response was eminent, he decided he would just wait in the office for the chief. As he drew open the door he was bombarded with an angry shout.
"You retard."
Billy flinched at the words terrified they were being directed at him but as he drew the door open further and took a step into the room he could see the chief was behind his desk and there was someone else in the room.
"Dominic you cocky bastard, can you take nothing seriously," the chief shouted outraged at the man in front of him, hands thrown in the air and face burning red.
"Look chief it was all in fun," replied Dominic not even fazed by the steaming man in front of him, fanning a hand in front of his face in dismissal.
"I'll show you just for fun," threatened the other man, adding to the warning he by shaking one of his thick fists in Dom's direction.
"Umm excuse me," William said from his spot at the doorway, as he viewed the lovely badger taking place.
Both the chief and the man named Dom swivelled there heads around to see the new intruder standing in the door frame of the chief's office.
"What do you want," yelled the very agitated Chief, having no more patience left for such an intrusion for the last of his patience had been worn out long ago from having a yelling fit with Dominic.
"My name is William Boyd sir and I am new to this station," replied William to the hostile comment which had been directed at him.
"Oh," replied the chief simply. "Well welcome to the 16th precinct, William Boyd. Meet your new partner Dominic. I am sure he can show you the ropes," replied the chief happy for an excuse to get rid of Dom and his new intruder.
"What?" yelled Dominic loudly.
"Well you idiot you have been complaining about wanting a partner for some time now, so I think he will do fine for you," stated the chief glowing with happiness at the disgruntled Dominic.
"Now the both of you get out of my sight before I really loose my temper," said the chief dismissing them.
Dominic turned on his heals and made a bee line for the door grabbing poor William on his way out. Dragging the man into the hall not so gracefully.
"Well I suppose you are my new partner now," stated Dom matter of factly. "Was it William again?"
"Yes that is correct," stated William realising that Dom still had not let go of him since they had exited the room.
"Can I call you Billy for short," asked Dominic.
"I suppose that won't hurt," replied William shocked at the other mans boldness.
"Well Billy I guess I should start showing you the ropes," stated Dominic happily dragging his new partner down the hallway.

I just got to say, Dom and Billy make a great Dee and Ryo (other than the whole Billy being Scottish and not half-Japanese, but still!)
I'm surprised to have not seen this more often...I have toyed with the idea of an X story...just picture Elijah as Kamui... and then there was the scary dream I had that replaced everyone in Ranma 1/2 with the LOTR boys... *shudders*
