Dom hasn't said a word to Billy since he found it. Well, no, he's said a word. He's said plenty of words. He just hasn't said a word about it since he found it.

He didn't mean to, really. He maintains that he wasn't snooping. He wasn't a snoop. It wasn't the sort of thing he did. Billy'd said he had some panadol in the second drawer of his bedside nightstand, but it hadn't been in the second drawer, so Dom had decided to check the first.

And he'd seen it.

Not even hidden, really, not if you don't consider inside a drawer hidden, and really, it's not. If Billy had really wanted to hide it, he'd have shoved it underneath the mattress, or at least underneath some papers in the drawer.

Dom's first reaction had been something along the lines of Oh, shit, Billy found my..., and then he'd taken a second look and, no, it wasn't his after all, he hadn't even bought the December issue because he'd been to nervous about anyone finding it.

Billy, obviously, didn't have the same worries.

Dom had spent about 24 seconds just staring down at it, and then Billy had called his name, and he'd slammed the door shut, shouting back that he couldn't find the bottle.

He's spent the past 48 hours deciding what this means to him.

Well, it either means Billy's gay, he finally settles on, or he's bi. Or he's curious. Or Elijah had a really great idea for a prank and didn't let him in on it. Or Elijah and Billy had a really great idea for a prank, and are waiting to see how Dom reacts. Or...

Okay. So maybe Dom hasn't really decided anything.

Part of him wants to go to the simple route: Billy has gay porn, therefore, Billy is gay.

Part of him thinks that there's no way in bloody sodding hell anything is that simple. Especially not since Dom has long since come to terms with the fact that he has a slight fix on his Pippin, his mate, and nothing will ever come of it.

It's not anything big. Nothing big at all. He just likes Billy, is all. In that sort of warm, tingly, want to be around him as much as possible way. Entirely normal for good mates, except for those times when Dom finds himself staring just a little too long at Billy's lips, or his arse, or into his eyes. Billy's not noticed anything, he doesn't think, thankfully.

Dom's only 24, and just turned that. He's just past the phase of experimentation and into the part about deciding what he does for sure like and what he doesn't. He does, for sure, like women. He does, also, for sure, like men. He's all right with that. He's had more women lovers than men, and he's all right with that too. He's kissed a lot of blokes, does a lot of dirty, on top of the clothes stuff. Even went through with the typical anonymous blow job in the loo of a club thing. Didn't much complain at the time, though later it had made him feel a little dirty, so he doesn't fancy it again. Unless, of course, he just happens to be incredibly horny in a club with a nice looking bloke. And then, maybe.

This whole incident with the porn mag has got him thinking though. Would he have shag a co-star? Sure, sure he would. He'd shagged quite a few of the lovely young ladies to waltz across the Hetty set. Would he shag a male co-star? Well, he'd not done it yet, but he didn't see much wrong with it. Not as long as they were both mutual on the matter, both agreed to the what's and the what-nots.

But Dom doesn't just want to shag Billy, and that's what's got him stumped. He hasn't had a steady anyone in a while. He'd been seeing a girl on and off in Manchester, before he got the Rings gig, but that had fizzled out and now he's here and so is Billy (with his gay porn) and Dom's got some ideas in his head that he just isn't sure should be there.

Still, he says nothing to Billy. For one, if it is just a big wind up, he doesn't want to be completely humiliated. And he's also a little hurt that if Billy is gay, Billy hasn't told him yet. Dom had thought they were well on their way to becoming the best of mates. Dom knows that Billy is someone that he genuinely likes. He doesn't know if he could stand rejection at this early stage of things.

Of course, for there to be rejection, there would first have to be action on Dom's behalf. And that doesn't happen for a few more weeks.

But when it does happen, of course, it's all at once.

It's Billy and Dom watching telly late at night. They're at Elijah's flat (the best of the group, Elijah's is furnished with an unsoiled sofa and carpet that doesn't smell of wet cat and a fridge that actually keeps things at a decent level of chill), but Elijah's already been off to bed for at least an hour or so.

The night isn't exactly warm and welcoming, so they've gathered a thick duvet from the guestroom and curled up on the couch underneath it, each taking an opposite corner so that their tucked under knees met in the middle.

"Billy?" Dom says, planning on asking him if he wants another beer.

"Eh?" Billy gives him a half-look in response.

"Are you gay?"

Billy stiffens. Dom feels all of his few years, knowing its the wrong moment, and he's ruined things now, and Billy won't trust him and Billy won't like him and Billy won't be his mate anyway and why hasn't Billy said anything yet?

"... Dom?" Billy's voice is sort of odd, sort of... distant. "Why do you ask that?"

"I was. Ah. It... I found... in your drawer... this, er... magazine. By your bed... "

"Oh. Oh. Right. Well," Billy sighs and sits up. "Look, Dom, is this going to be some sort of problem?"

"No," Dom says carefully. "I just... wondered."

"Yeah, then. I'm gay." He tries to settle back down, but its obvious that the comfort of the moment is gone.

"I think... I am too."

Dom's not sure if he could have said anything that would have made Billy's head spin around faster. "What?"

"Not... completely gay. I still like to shag birds. But. Bisexual, you know."

"You've been with a man before?"

Dom nods. "Yeah. Twice. Two guys... once each. One of them was a friend of a friend's. I met the other one in a pub one night..." He stops, realizing that Billy hadn't asked for a full history of his sexual exploits.

"Well," Billy sounds like he's smiling. "I'm glad that it... won't be a problem."

Dom smiles too, but somehow it doesn't feel settled.

It's not settled. It's most definitely not settled.

Billy's flirting. With a bloke. Right in front of Dom.

Apparently, Dom's discovery has made Billy just a little too comfortable around Dom. When Billy'd suggested a cousin's night out, he'd been ecstatic. A night alone? With Billy? Fucking perfect, in Dom's humble opinion.

But Billy'd had other plans. The minute they'd gotten to the gay bar (more of a pub, really, with a pub type of atmosphere, cozy and smokey and comfortable - like a pub, except with gay guys all around) Billy had ordered himself a beer and nodded at Dom with a sly little grin and headed off to find someone to chat up.

Someone that was most definitely not Dom.

Dom's not sure what he'll do if Billy takes someone home. He feels like throwing something, already. He's not sure why. Not like finding out Billy was gay guaranteed him an in. Sure, it might have leveled the paying feild out a bit, but that was all.

Dom thinks about chatting someone up himself. Catches the eye of a few guys, but doesn't make anything of it. He doesn't feel like making the effort. Sits in the corner, sipping his own beer, watching Billy smile a smile that he's never seen Billy smile before.

At someone that isn't Dom.

Dom can't bring himself to speak to Billy for about three days after, because in the end, Billy had taken someone home, and that someone hadn't been Dom.

Billy shoots him continuous hurt looks, looks that ask why and please? and what the bloody fuck, Dom?

Dom knows that he's being a prat. It isn't like he likes acting like this. He's just... angry. Angry in a thick, greedy, undeniable way. Angry in a way that he has to nurture and support and let fester until it's ready to be out on its own.

On the fourth day, Billy whispers a soft apology, and an even softer I didn't know. Dom pretends not to realize what Billy means.

Billy asks him if he wants to go out for drinks, and he adds, "Just us."

Dom says all right, and lets Billy pick him up at half six, and they drink and eat good food and laugh together. Billy gets the check, and Dom just leans back against the wall, beaming, while Billy pays it.

They walk back to the car, side by side. The backs of their hands brush. Dom is happy in a way that he hasn't been in a very long time.

Later in the week, Dom slips into Billy's house at 2:45 in the morning. He clanges around (as quietly as possible) in the kitchen, fixing up a pan full of porridge, and then a sizable serving of bacon and eggs, food that he'd brought himself since he knew for a fact Billy's cupboards were empty.

He keeps absolutely still and quiet when he hears Billy's alarm going off, hoping diligently that the smell wouldn't bring him into the kitchen.

A few minutes later, he hears the shower running and lets out a sigh of relief. He quickly transferrs the porridge to a bowl, the eggs and bacon to a plate, and the tea he'd put on to boil into a large mug.

By the time Billy is out of the shower, Dom is out of the house.

"You're a lovely bastard," Billy says an hour and a half later, sliding (twenty minutes late) into his chair to have his prosthetic ears and then wig put on.

Dom's transformation is almost complete - he's standing, having his feet done (by none other than Mr. Foot) but he can't start filming until Billy is finished anyway, so he feels secure in the knowledge that he's got Billy's undivided attention for the next half hour. "Am I now?" Dom says, acting innocent.

"And you're a wonderful cook, too," Billy raises an eyebrow. "But it's really rather rude, you know, to not dine with someone that you cook for."

"But that would have ruined the surprise," Dom argues, giving himself a way with a wide smile.

"No," Billy says, and his voice is just a little bit lower, and Dom has a feeling that if the makeup girl weren't holding him by his ears, he would have leaned in. "It would have been an even better one."

Elijah is giving them very weird looks.

"What?" Dom finally says, glaring.

"Dude. Billy's got his arm around you." Elijah states it as if it isn't the most obvious thing in the world. Which of course, it is, since Billy is doing nothing to hide the fact that, yes, his arm is around Dom, and Dom is very blatantly leaning into Billy. Slouching, even, so that his head is tucked against Billy's neck.

"Sod off," Dom grumbles. Billy squeezes his shoulder and laughs a little.

"I just don't... get it?" He practically asks. "Is it like... a... British thing?"

"Nope," Dom says, and glances over at Billy. "It's more of a gay thing."

Billy shoots him a surprised look, but there's a smile to go along with it, so Dom doesn't think he's gone too far. Elijah's eyes bug out quite nicely, and Dom gives himself a mental pat on the back for good timing.

"You're gay?!"> He squeaks, and Billy must find it endearing, because the look he gives Elijah is such fond patience. Elijah still looks like he's waiting for the punchline.

"We're gay."

"And you're, what? Dating?"

Now that, Dom doesn't know how to answer. He lets Billy handle it, and Billy does, though not without a few hesitant looks at Dom. "I guess you could say that. We haven't, ah, exactly, told anyone..."

Including each other, Dom thinks, but he's happy, so very, very happy, even if its only been two weeks and maybe its a little premature to say, but. Billy says they're dating, has just said it, to another person, and Dom has to turn his face into Billy's neck to hide his smile, because he knows he'd be embarrassed by the magnitude of it.

"Right. Dude. Of course. I'll keep my mouth shut, don't worry," Elijah swears, and he sounds like's half happy for them and half freaked the hell out that two of his best hobbit mates are gay. Billy and Dom share a mutually doubting look, but then laugh. Elijah's not exactly known for his ability to keep quiet about anything.

Dom laughs a little, and slides his hand along Billy's thigh, underneath the table.

Four hours later, Billy's dropping Dom off at his flat.

"No filming tomorrow," Billy says, smiling and leaning against the car. Dom hasn't managed to convince his legs to take him away from Billy yet, but he's working on it.

"Right..." He beams at Billy, and Billy does that adorable little giggle-laugh thing. Okay, so maybe he's not working on it.

"Thought maybe you'd like to go see a movie, or something..." Billy's eyes were twinkling.

"Why Billy Boyd," Dom drawls, "Are you asking me out on a date?"

"I just may be," Billy pretends to be considering it, and then nods. "Yeah, yeah, I am."

"Good. All right. Yes." Dom leans in, close to Billy.

"Good." Billy repeats.

"Good."

"Dom?"

"Yeah?" They've been steadily leaning in closer, to the point now where they're almostbutnotquite touching.

"Gonna kiss you now," Billy says, and his smile brushes Dom's.

"Good-" And then its not just brushing, it's touching, and pushing, and tasting, and taking his breath away. When Billy pulls back, pink lips shining in the shallow lamplight, Dom laughs again. "Good."

Dom goes to sleep still smiling, and he wakes up smiling, too.
