15minuteficlets challenge word of "examination". Had to write to the word, obviously.. 15 minutes exactly. Fluff.
Dom didn't know why he was up at the ungodly hour it currently was or why he couldn't go back to sleep.
He just sat there, eyes closed tightly, willing his brain to do that change over from awake to passed out. An hour had passed. Then two. Dom finally gave up and opened his eyes, peering around at the room. The sun had just barely started to get into the area, shining the first few rays of light onto the floor. In an hour, Dom knew, it would be high enough in the sky for that very light to reach their bed.
Billy slept soundly next to him. He always did admire him for his ability to sleep what he wanted to sleep. It didn't matter if it was twelve hours or two - if he wanted to wake up at a certain time, he did it, no problem.
It was the only time he ever looked innocent, Dom had noted; it was very rarely that Dom didn't see a smug grin or an 'I'm not innocent but I'll try to look it' smile plastered on his face. When he was asleep, he just looked peaceful and calm. He looked like the most guiltless, angelic person in the entire world.
Dom decided, as he looked him over from his bed-head hair to his chest, which peeked out slightly from the blanket covering him, that he didn't like Billy that way. He was far more entertaining awake and getting into trouble, even if he did blame Dom for his mistakes most of the time. Dom liked being able to look into his eyes, too, because there was something in them that made him feel completely safe from harm every time. Not even falling asleep with his arm around him simulated that feeling.
He had shifted one too many times in bed, it seemed, as when he went to move closer to him the bed made one final creek and Billy's eyes slid open. He blinked a few times, confused at why he was awake, until he must have noted Dom staring at him like a complete idiot.
"...Dom? What are you doing?" He asked, his voice a dazed-sounded mumble.
"Oh, nothing. Just looking at you," he responded, smiling faintly.
Billy stared at him, raising a brow. After a moment, he chuckled and said, "...You're a bloody nutter sometimes, Monaghan. Go back to sleep."
Dom smiled and watched him get comfortable again, nestling back into bed for another few hours of sleep. After a few minutes, his eyelids finally got heavy. Cuddling up against Billy's back, he slowly dozed off himself.
