Honestly Yours

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Wait, Dom! Let me explain!”
“What’s to explain? I can see it with my own eyes.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dominic kept reliving the scene over and over in his head. The pain he
felt was unbearable.

How could this have happened?

Good question.

It all started when he and Billy had gotten into an argument earlier
that day (about the stupidest thing, really, now that Dom thought about
it). With a few swear words here and a few names called there, Dom had
stormed out of their little apartment that they sometimes shared,
trying to focus on not leaving a huge hole in the wall as he went.

Later Dom realized he had been wrong and went back to the apartment to
apologize, hoping Billy had cooled down as well. But when he opened the
door, he was surprised to find Billy in a romantic embrace with another
man. One Dom didn’t recognize.

“Billy?! What the hell?!” he screamed, startling both Billy and the
other man.

“Dom! What are you...Why–? This isn’t what it looks like! Honestly!”

“What do you mean ‘not what the bloody hell it looks
like’
?! You’re with another guy!”

Billy’s face flushed red, but Dom didn’t see, as he was already turning
to go out the door.

“Wait, Dom! Let me explain!” Billy leapt from the couch over to Dom’s
retreating form trying to catch his sleeve, but Dom was quicker.

“What’s to explain?” Dom said, pivoting around to look back into
Billy’s panic-stricken eyes. His tone, Billy noticed, was remarkably
calm under the circumstances. “I can see it with my own
eyes. Goodbye.”

And Dom stormed out, slamming the door with a terrible force. There was
nowhere to go but back to his own apartment, tears spilling from the
corners of his eyes as he fumbled with his own set of keys trying to
get in.

That was two weeks ago. Now he stayed inside day and night relying on
his neighbors to get him food, which started to wear them thin with
worry.

Suddenly, there was a soft knock at the door and a monotone voice
accompanied the stale air.

“Groceries………again.”

Dom twitched his nose and looked over his shoulder from his position on
the couch.

“Yeah, come on in Elsie.”

A flash of hair and Elsie’s fragile frame was squeezing through the
bolts and locks, casually setting down the bags onto Dom’s makeshift
kitchen table once inside.

Taking a deep sigh and patting her clothes, Elsie summoned up the
courage to ask a few questions. After all, she did care about Dom as if
he were like one of her brothers. And it was only natural to want to
protect your little brother.

“I know you’ve heard this at least a dozen times but, you haven’t been
outside in two weeks!” Elsie said, exasperated. She placed her hands on
her hips in a way that made her look quite motherly.

“So?”

Elsie just stared at the back of Dom’s mussed hair.

“So?! It’s unhealthy! You need to relax outside for a while, talk to
other people. Live your life again!”

“What’s the point? I’ve lost him.”

Elsie sighed, “Look, just...try to take care of yourself, okay? The
others and I won’t always be able to make your grocery runs.” And with
that said, she disappeared out the door again, leaving Dom back to his
thoughts.

~5 minutes later~

Knock, knock, knock!

“Elsie, go away!”

“Dommie! It’s me, Billy! Let me in!” Dom paused briefly, but got up and
strode over to the door, opening it as far as the the dead bolt would
allow.

“What are you doing here?” Dom said, peeking out from the corner of the
frame.

“I came to talk to you...” Billy mumbled, “About what really happened
that night.”

Dom made an indignant grunt.

“There’s no need. We argued, I stormed out, you got with someone
else...End of story.” As he started to shut the door, Billy grabbed it.

“Please Dom, you gotta let me explain.”

But Dom wouldn’t have any of it.

“Go away Billy, if you know what’s good for you. I don’t want you near
here again!” And almost squishing Billy’s fingers in the process, Dom
closed the door with a snap.

~2 days later~

‘...and folks this looks like one of the worst blizzard to hit us
this year. There have been reported amounts of up to 35 inches of snow
with temps in the low teens but wind chills in the zeros. Not a time to
be outside...’

Dom was still in his apartment but instead of gluing his eyes to the
TV, he was staring out the window instead.

Maybe I should give Billy another chance...

Yesterday he had received a letter from the man Billy had been with
explaining how nothing had happened, and that it was just a hug.

But the question is, do I believe him or not?

Just then, Dom was brought out of his reverie when a snowball hit the
window.

“What the hell?”

Scrambling over to the windowsill, Dom opened the window letting in a
blast of cold air. Poking his head out, he tried to spot the
perpetrator by looking to his left and then to his right. Nothing.
Then–

“DOMINIC MONAGHAN!!!” He heard a voice yelling down from the street,
“LISTEN TO ME!!!”

Dom looked down and sure enough, there was Billy all snuggled up in his
favorite wool jacket and scarf. His hands were stuffed in his pockets
as hot puffs of air floated from his red mouth. Dom felt his heart
twinge a bit at the sight.

No, don’t you even start, Monaghan...

Snapping out of his thoughts, Dom fixed his gaze back on Billy.

“Billy? What are you doing down there?”

Billy shuffled around and looked down at his feet before looking back
up to Dom.

“I need to talk to you NOW!”

“I don’t think so.” Dom replied, not willing to compromise now, or ever.

“I’m not leaving this spot until you listen to me!”

Billy was shivering and Dom could plainly see it. He wouldn’t last much
longer if he wasn’t let inside, and soon.

“It’s 12 degrees outside!”

“So? Listen to me! I was not cheating on you!”

“And that’s why you were cuddling up with someone else?”

Good point...

“I’m sorry! I wasn’t thinking! I swear, nothing happened!”

“That’s exactly what the letter said.”

A confused expression fell over Billy’s features.

“What letter?”

“Er, never mind. How long have you been standing out there?”

Billy looked nervously distracted again.

“About 2...um, hours...”

Dom sighed, “Why don’t you come up here and we can continue
talking...So you don’t get frostbitten and all.”

There was a small glimmer of hope that quirked the corners of Billy’s
lips, but it didn’t last longer for more than a second.

“Sure.”

~At Dom’s door~

“So, why did you even have him over?” Was the first question Dom shot
at Billy as soon as he entered the apartment.

Billy seemed to be ready for this with all the answers, as he didn’t
even skip a heartbeat.

“I was mad, I was drunk, and I made a bad decision and I am so so so
sorry Dommie. I didn’t mean to and–”

Dom didn’t think he could bear to hear much more about the evening.

“Why were you out there standing in the snow?”

Billy seemed to be at a loss for words, but then he looked at Dom like
he was a complete idiot. Then again, maybe he was...

“Because I love you Dommie!” Billy simply stated, “And of all people,
you should know that! I could never be with someone else. I’m sorry for
what I did and I realized about 2 seconds after you slammed the door
that I had fucked up and I am so sorry and I just want you to forgive
me. Please!? If I didn’t regret it, or I wasn’t sorry, I wouldn’t even
be here.”

“You really didn’t mean to?”

Billy nodded his head vigorously.

“Yes, honestly! I even threw out the rest of whatever it was I drank
after the fact. I’m really sorry Dommie! I want us to be together
again!”

Dominic stared into Billy’s pleading eyes and realized that Billy was
telling the truth.

Noticing the change of mood, Billy had the courage to ask, “So are we
okay Dom?”

Dom opened and closed his mouth several times, but words seemed to fail
him. Then finally–

“Yeah, except you owe me one favor.”

Billy quirked his eyebrow into a perfect arch.

“And what’s that?”

Dom licked his lips in anticipation.

“I get to be on top this time.”
