Title: Nothing Else Matters
Pairing: Dom/Billy, what else?
Rating: PG-13 (language)
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated! ♥
"Dom."
Dom looked up from the magazine he had been absentmindedly flipping through. "Yeah, Billy?"
Billy was sitting on the couch, his legs splayed out across the cushions. Dom smiled widely at him, and his eyes fell upon Billys left hand, which was fiddling with something in his pocket.
"...Billy?"
Billy tilted his head towards Dom, apparently thinking. "Yeah?"
"Uhh. Never mind, then." He turned back to the magazine and resumed skimming through it. Billy sat in silence, his eyes closed.
"Dom. I'm thinking of, um," Dom turned his attention back towards Billy curiously. "I'm thinking of. You know, proposing."
Dom blinked. "What? To who?"
Billy snorted. "Who do you think?"
Dom flushed and looked away, scowling at the floor. "Oh. Um. Kidding. You just...caught me off guard is all." Oh God, he can't be serious. Please don't let him be serious.
There was a pregnant pause in conversation, both men too caught up in their thoughts to speak.
Dom continued staring at the green-colored carpet, unconsciously chewing on the inside of his lip. You should have known this was coming, Dom. Why are you so surprised? But, Christ, I can't handle this. I can't. I can't.
Finally, Billy nervously broke the uncomfortable silence. "So, ehh, what do you think? Should I?"
"Should you what?" Dom asked, only half-paying attention.
"Should I propose, you fucking dolt." Billy replied, somewhat irritably.
Dom hesitated, unsure of what to say. What can I say, really? I can't tell him the truth. I can't. I refuse to. He'll hate me. He looked over at Billy and noticed he had his eyebrows raised, obviously waiting for Doms response. Just say something, dammit.
"Uhhh. I don't know." Oh, real smooth. "I mean, do you really want to..." Shut up now, Dom. Stop talking.
"Do I really want to what?"
"Never mind." Dom shrugged in what he hoped was a casual manner.
"No. Tell me."
"Dammit, Billy, I don't fucking know." Dom frowned, surprised at how harsh his voice sounded. Billy didn't seem to notice.
Dom shifted awkwardly. "So. Uhh. If you do, um, you know..." He found himself unable to finish. "Well, if you do, when are you going to?"
Billy frowned. "I was thinking...soon."
"'Soon'? How soon is soon?"
"Uhh. I was thinking, maybe, tomorrow soon."
Dom barely stifled a gasp. "T-tomorrow? You don't even have a ring, or anything." Does he? Oh, please no.
Billy cast a sideways look at before finally removing his hand from his pocket, a small, velvety-looking box clutched in his fist. He popped the box open slowly, revealing the ring inside and confirming Doms fears. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
"Let me see." Dom seized the small box from Billy, examining the ring closely. It was simple enough, the band gold, with a large diamond placed in the middle and two smaller ones on either side of it. He glared down at it, annoyed by its beauty. The soft rays of sunlight pouring in from the windows illuminated its shine, making Dom feel as if it were mocking him. He gave it a final, hard glare before thrusting it back at Billy, unable to stand looking at the blasted thing any longer.
He's going to get married. He's going to get married, and then you'll never have him. Not the way you want. You'll always just be good old Dom, his loyal best friend. Nothing more.
Dom remembered when he'd first realized he'd fallen in love with Billy. It had happened so slowly, so naturally, that Dom hadn't even noticed what was happening to him.
Its not fair. Its not fucking fair. I love him more than...she...does. No one could possibly love him like I do. No one. Ever. Dom felt a stinging behind his eyes, and savagely bit the inside of his cheek to keep himself from allowing the tears to spill.
When Dom finally mustered up enough strength, he looked back up at Billy, to find he was surveying the ring closely, looking as if he, too, was deep in thought.
"I think I'm going to, you know, do it. I think I am."
Dom could almost feel his heart break in two, felt as if Billy had taken it and cloven it neatly in half.
He swallowed and tried to form words around the large lump that had grown in his throat."Thats...great, Billy." Even to his own ears his words sounded hollow, forced.
Billy cocked an eyebrow up at him, apparently having had noticed Doms dark tone.
You're an actor, dammit. Put some enthusiasm into it. "Congratulations, Bill." he said as brightly as he could manage, surprising even himself at how genuine it sounded.
"D'you, do you think she'll, you know, say yes?"
Of course she will. How could she not? You're perfect, perfect in every aspect imaginable. God, she doesn't even know how lucky she is, the ungrateful little... He stopped himself, feeling a little ashamed. "Yes. I think she will."
Billy smiled at Dom. He looked so genuinely happy that Dom couldn't help but smile back, despite the fact that he felt as if he was dying on the inside. Billy stepped up off the couch and flung his arms tightly around Doms neck.
"Thank you, Dom." He whispered into his ear, and Dom felt his knees weaken. Jesus, that accent.
Dom pulled away from the embrace, looking deeply into Billys clear, intense eyes, feeling as if he could get lost in them, as he had so many times before. He felt a familiar stinging sensation behind his eyes, and knew that, this time, he wouldn't be able to stop the tears from flowing.
"Well, uh, I guess I should be, you know, going now. Thanks for everything, Dom."
"No problem, Bill." Dom was biting the inside of his cheek so hard he could feel the coppery taste of his own blood on his tongue.
Dom watched as Billy got up and started heading towards the entrance, making no motion to move. He waited until he heard the door snap shut before sagging against the couch and finally allowing the tears to fall freely. He felt sobs shake his entire body as he wept quietly into the couch, crying himself to sleep.
*******
Dom awoke from his unfitful sleep with a groan. He peeled his face off of the side of the couch, wincing.
"So you're finally awake, then?"
Dom jerked in surprise, barely managing to bite back a wail. He turned around and saw Billy sitting on the floor.
"Bill, Jesus, you scared the shit out of me, what are -- hey, whats wrong?"
He frowned in concern. Billy looked exhausted, his eyes were red-rimmed and his cheeks were damp. At Doms words, a few tears dripped out of the corner of Billys eye, sliding down his cheek.
"Billy! Come on, tell me, whats the matter?"
Billy looked down at the floor, now flat-out weeping. "Billy. Billy, d-did, um, did you do it? Did you ask her?"
He looked up at Dom, and Dom was amazed at how Billy somehow managed to look beautiful no matter what he did, even when his eyes were red and his entire face puffy from crying.
Billy wiped the tears hastily off his face with his sleeve. "Thats the thing. I couldn't do it. I can't ask her. I can't. Dammit, Dom, I can't."
Dom frowned, feeling both sympathy and a little relief, torn between the two emotions. He felt disgusted with himself for feeling relieved over something that was clearly causing Billy so much distress.
Dom swiftly moved over to where Billy sat on the carpet, putting an arm comfortingly around him. "Oh, well, Billy. You don't have to be nervous about it, I mean, I'm sure she'd say - "
Billy let out a small noise of irritation. "No, see, you don't get it. I'm not scared to do it, I just...can't. I can't."
Dom wrinkled his forehead, puzzled. "Why not?"
"Because I...I..." He turned his face towards Dom, gazing into his face. Dom felt his heartbeat pounding in his ears as he looked into those beautiful, impossibly green eyes. Dom felt his breathing speed up at a rapid pace as Billys face inched closer to his.
"Because, oh God, Dom..."
What happened next was all a blur for Dom. One moment, he was gazing intently into Billys eyes, and the next thing he knew, Billys lips were pressed against his, kissing him so forcefully that Dom thought his heart would burst.
Billy pulled away from the kiss slowly, breathing heavily. "Dom. Oh, God, Dom, I love you. I love you so much."
Dom felt his throat tighten, and, unable to come up with a response, he gently placed his hands on either side of Billys face and kissed him again, feeling so happy he thought he might lose consciousness. The kiss ended slowly, and Dom pressed his forehead against Billys.
"Oh God, Billy, I love you too." He felt his eyes water. "I love you so much."
Billy wrapped his arms tightly around Dom, crying softly into his shoulder. He pulled away finally, smiling, and kissed Dom sweetly on the cheek.
"How are we supposed to, you know, hide this? I mean, its not like we can just tell everyone that we --"
Dom cut him off quickly, surprising him with another kiss, this one even more passionate than the ones before.
"It doesn't matter, Billy. It doesn't." He hugged Billy, feeling as if his heart would burst from the joy of the situation. "I've got you now, and nothing else matters."

That's something you don't hear every day. Nice.

Yes!! I wonder why Billy even thought to propose to the girl he didn't really love... hm. Ah well, yay for teh happy ending!!

Well, I really wanted to stick the explanation for that in there somewhere, but it was all from Dom's POV so it wouldn't fit in correctly. I think Billy was trying to deny his feelings for Dom, in a way trying to convince himself he was in love with 'the girl', but, in the end, he just couldn't fight it anymore.
Ah well, yay for teh happy ending!!
Ahh, of course we needed the happy, Monaboyd-y ending. :D
Thanks for reading and commenting, all the feedback makes me happier than you can imagine!
