Title: Wednesdays (1/5)
Author: smlark
Pairing: Monaboyd
Rating: PG
Summary: "LOST" is a success and Billy is not happy with the choices he has made. (Please note, I'm using Wednesdays as that is when "LOST" will air in the US. I'm not sure if, or when it will run in Scotland - I'm using a little poetic license here!)
Feedback: Yes, if you please.

Wednesdays
(1/5)
He's driving as fast as he can, just barely managing to adhere to the speed limit. He can’t be late, not tonight. It’s Wednesday. It’s his night. It’s his hour. An hour he shares with no one. When that time arrives, he slips into a world that only exists for him. A world where there is no fear, no rejection, no guilt or worry.
Wednesdays are what he longs for all week. They motivate him to get up every morning and move through the days, one after the other, living his life as if nothing is wrong, as if he has no regrets.
Know one really knows. They think he has the perfect life. They think he's happy. He has them all fooled.
There is little sunshine now. His life is like an eclipse. Darkness passes over, covering everything in its wake until that one hour arrives. When it does, the sun punches its way in and brightness enters his life again - if only for 60 minutes at a time.
He parks the car and jumps out. He runs up the stairs, grabs the post out of the box on his way and shoves the key in the lock, pushing open the door. Running in, he throws the mail on the table, grabs the remote and clicks on the television. He finds the channel he is looking for and curls up on the couch grasping a pillow in the process and clutches it tightly to his chest.
He is drawn in now, into a world where he has made all the right choices, love has no boundaries and happiness ensues.
Too soon, the credits roll. The moon begins its passage over the sun and the brightness begins to fade. The inevitable darkness approaches.
A lone tear slips down his cheek. He sniffles. He sighs. He wipes away the tear.
He gets up to make something for dinner. He notices a brown envelope on the table, mixed in with the mail. He sees his name and address scribbled on the front in unfamiliar handwriting. He picks it up and looks for a return address, but there is none. He notices the post mark that reads:
Valentine, TX
He’s never heard of that place before. Not sure if he should open this or just throw it away, he walks into the kitchen with the envelope still in his hand. He pulls an entrée out of the freezer and pops it into the microwave.
Leaning against the counter while waiting for his dinner, his curiosity gets the better of him and he rips it open. He shakes out a small blue envelope. There is nothing written on it. The flap is not sealed. He reaches inside and pulls out a single sheet of white paper, which is folded into fours. Hesitantly, he unfolds it. Center spaced are three words typed in blue ink:
"Be not afraid"
He turns the paper over, as if there would be some clue to its origin on the back, but there is none.
The microwave beeps. He shrugs and walks to the waste can and tosses it in.
He takes his dinner to the table. He eats in solitude.
