Chapter Six
Sean Astin strode up to the front door of Viggo’s house and banged loudly on the door. “I know you’re there Mortensen,” he hollered through the door.
Viggo pulled open the door and leaned against the foot jamb. “What is it, Sean?”
“Have you heard from any of them?” Sean asked as he pushed past Viggo.
“Who?” Viggo closed the door as he followed Sean into the living room.
“You know who I’m talking about. Sean, Orli, Billy, Dom.”
“Haven’t talked to Sean since he left. Or Orlando for that matter. Billy called when the two of them showed up on his doorstep. They’re in Scotland, unfortunately.”
“Great, fucking great,” Sean muttered to himself. “So you’ve been watching the news?”
Viggo looked at his feet. “Yeah, we have. Fucking crazy.”
“Vig? What going on?” Elijah schlepped into the world, looking the most disheveled Sean had ever seen him look. One leg of his boxers was pushed all the way up to his crotch and his hair stuck up in all directions. He scratched his head, sending his hair into a further state of disarray. “Sean? I’m confused.”
“I’m just wondering if you’ve heard from Billy, Dom, Sean, or Orlando.”
Elijah bit his lower lip. “No, we haven’t. We’re worried, with everything that’s been going on. But maybe they got out when they evacuated.”
“And they didn’t call any of us? I’m really worried something’s happened to them or maybe they’re running around Britain trying to escape...whatever’s going on.” Sean ran his hand over his hair. “I mean, I haven’t heard from anyone. Sam, Margaret, Matt, Sean’s ex’s about his girls. You hate to fear the worst, but...” He shrugged. “This is just crazy. We have to find out if they’re ok.”
“Are you suggesting we somehow get to Scotland? They’ve closed the whole of Great Britain off to anyone. No boats, definitely no planes.” Viggo rubbed his eyes with the heel of his hands. “I want to know if they’re ok, but how exactly do you want us to find this out?”
Sean sighed as he sank onto Viggo’s couch. “We have to try and find some way of getting access to the list of people they’ve pulled out of Britain. Even if it only yields us Sam, Margaret, Matt and the girls.” He looked over at Viggo and Elijah. “You two owe Sean and Orli.”
Elijah slid his hand into Viggo’s. “Yeah, guess we do.”
“What can we do?” Viggo asked as he squeezed Elijah’s hand.
Sean could think of a thousand things Viggo and Elijah could do. They could go back in time, stop Orlando and Sean from fleeing America with broken hearts, and stop the animal rights activists from starting the spread of the infection, but he kept his mouth shut. He had four friends in danger and didn’t want to risk losing two more to an argument. “We have to find out where they are keeping them...”
Dom brushed back Billy’s sweat soaked hair. “I have to set this, love.”
Billy nodded. He didn’t really care at this point. He just wanted to sleep, wake up, and find this was all a dream.
Sean and Orlando entered the store. Orlando still looked a mess, but seemed better than he had been.
“Sean, Orli. I’m gonna need your help.” Dom waved them over. He knew there was no way he could properly set Billy’s broken ankle without help. He looked over towards Greg who was guarding the door, not paying any attention to Dom or Billy. Alex was curled up on the floor, trying to sleep.
“What do you need, Dom?” Sean asked as kneeled beside Dom.
“I need someone to hold him down, make sure he doesn’t move. And I need someone to help set it.” Dom looked over at Orlando. “Think he’s up to holding Billy down?”
Sean nodded. “Yeah. He’ll be ok. Lando, mate, we have a task for you.”
Orlando sat on the ground beside Billy. “Is he ok?” he asked.
“Not really, Orli. I need you to hold him down.” Dom gathered up some bandages, antibiotic ointment, and a splint to go around his ankle after Dom set it.
Orlando nodded and moved behind Billy’s head. He lifted Billy’s head into his lap and spread his legs out, wrapping his arms around Billy’s upper body.
Billy put his hand Orlando’s arm and gave it a squeeze. He was vaguely aware of what was about to happen and was grateful for his friends.
“You ready, baby?” Dom whispered as he and Sean put their hands on his leg. He had cut away most of Billy’s pant leg so he could see what he was working with. It wasn’t a pretty sight, red, swollen, bloody, and bent at an ungodly angle. Dom hated the thought of hurting his Billy but he didn’t have much of a choice. Billy would be better off once this was over.
Billy nodded and closed his eyes, pressing his face into Orlando’s thigh. He felt Dom put one hand on his foot and another on his leg just above his ankle, followed by a quick jerk. Pain shot up his leg. He felt like his leg had been torn off. Cries of pain escaped his lips and he struggled against Orlando’s grip but in his fever induced state; he was no match for the man’s strength.
Dom quickly applied the antibiotic ointment, wrapped Billy’s ankle in clean bandages, and set a splint around his ankle and foot.. He crawled up and placed a kiss on Billy’s forehead. “Are you ok, baby?” he whispered, wiping the tears streaming down Billy’s cheeks.
Billy breathed deeply, trying to push back the pain as he raised his head from Orlando’s leg and looked at Dom. “Been better,” he whispered.
“Orli, can you give us a moment?”
Orlando nodded and gently extracted himself from underneath Billy. He crawled over to Sean’s side and placed his head in his lap. “He’ll be ok, right Seanie?”
Sean lightly ran his hand over Orlando’s curls. “He should be.” He carefully moved Orlando’s head out of his lap and laid down on the hard linoleum floor beside him. “He’s Billy. He’s made of tough stuff.” He wrapped his arms around Orlando’s waist and pulled him close. “You should get some sleep, mate.”
Orlando burrowed himself into Sean’s chest. He was exhausted and quickly fell asleep.
Sean looked over at Dom who was speaking softly to Billy, trying to soothe the injured man to sleep. He wasn’t sure which he’d prefer, Orlando in a child-like state, or an injured Billy. He knew enough about both men that neither was an ideal prospect and his heart went out to Dom.
Dom whispered sweet words into Billy’s ear, trying in vain to get him to sleep. “You need your beauty sleep, Billy. Can’t have you looking like shit when the cameras catch us when we get out of here.”
Billy smiled slightly. “Hurts, m’Dommie.”
“I know, baby, I know.” Dom leaned over and placed a kiss on Billy’s forehead. “But you’ve had more than enough pain medication for now. Any more and...”
“I know, Dommie, I know.” Billy wrapped his hand around Dom’s arm and lightly rubbed it. “You’re wonderful, m’Dommie,” he whispered. “Putting up with me.”
“I love you, Billy. I want to take care of you.” Dom felt Billy’s forehead again. “Your fever’s gone down a bit, love. You should get some sleep. Can’t have you getting even sicker.”
“Can’t sleep if you aren’t holding me,” Billy whimpered.
Dom chuckled and laid beside Billy, wrapping his arms around him. “Better?”
Billy let out a contented noise and smiled his first genuine smile since they’d left their cabin. “I love you so much, m’Dommie.”
Dom buried his face into Billy’s hair. “Love you, too. Get some sleep.” He wondered how long they could keep this up. Orlando had already hit his breaking point, and Dom knew he and Sean weren’t far behind. Dom’s thoughts traveled to his brother and his family. He knew that Sam was on Orlando’s mind and Sean was worried about his girls. Billy was in too much pain to worry about his sister or anything else for that matter. “We’ll all be ok,” Dom whispered more to himself than to Billy. “Everyone’s probably worried about us.”
“Yes, I understand that, but we’re just trying to see if our friends are there. Or at least their families. Where are they holding them?” Viggo ran a hand through his hair. He was on his fourteenth phone call trying to find out any information on the whereabouts of the Britons evacuated from the island. “Do you realize who we’re looking for?” He sighed. “Fine, thank you.” He pushed the talk button and threw the phone onto the counter. “It’s fucking hopeless, Sean. No one is giving anyone information. I can’t even find out what state they’re being held in.” He collapsed onto the couch beside Elijah.
“This is crazy. I mean, for all we know they could be hurt or...or dead,” Sean said.
Elijah let out a sob and buried his face in Viggo’s side. “What the fuck did we do, Vig?”
Viggo wrapped his arm around Elijah’s waist and kissed his forehead. “I’m sure they’re fine, Lij. It’s got nothing to do with you and me.”
Sean scoffed.
“You aren’t helping,” Viggo shot as he rubbed his hand up and down Elijah’s back. “Yes, we could’ve had more tact, but we’d still be worried about them and the others. We didn’t cause this...this whatever it is.”
“I know, Viggo, I’m just...just really worried about them.”
Viggo pulled Elijah closer as the younger man sobbed. “Yeah, me too, Sean. Me too.”
