Disclaimer: Dom and Billy live in my bedroom and are right now trying on all my skirts. Don't own skirts. The rest is history.

„Oh, come on, Dom, I introduced Ali to you before we even got together and now you’ve got the nerves to call and tell me you’ve been dating that mysterious woman for four months without even letting me know? That’s so not fair!”

Billy jammed the receiver between his cheek and left shoulder while pouring himself a drink.

Through the line came a sound that would have been a giggle if it weren’t for those darn intercontinental phoneconnections. Now it did sound like someone was wobbling a thin piece of metal.

“Not funny, Dom.” Billy grunted before he let himself drop onto the sofa and sipped his Whiskey.

“Yes, it is. You’re a whining bastard, Bills...just jealous because I’ve got that new-love-butterfly-thing going on while yours has worn off ages ago.”

Dom meant to be joking but Billy didn’t feel like laughing at all.

“Am not!” he protested half-heartedly, putting everything he had learned about acting into these two words to make them sound convincing.

For once, he was thankful for the incredibly bad connection when Dom started to laugh again.
So he had believed it. Good.

“And what’s more: She actually *does* have something mysterious about her, but she’s got a name nevertheless.”

Billy’s brain was somewhat slowed down because of the alcohol in his system, but now he forced it to work properly enough to remember the name Dom had told him earlier.

“Oh...yes...Lisa.”

There was a short moment of silence on the other end of the line before the quiet reply came.

“Lena, Bills.”

“Oh, uhm...what did I say?”

“Lisa...Billy, are you drinking again?”

There was concern in Dom’s voice, wasn’t it? Part of Billy sure as hell hoped there was and that it meant something, but his rational half told him that this was just what friends do. They care about each other, even if they are separated by half the world, so he just shrugged even though he knew perfectly well that Dom couldn’t see it.

“I’m a Scot, I’m supposed to be drinking all day.”

Dom sighed. “Bills, you’re a grown-up, you have to know what you’re doing...but, please, remember we’re best mates. If there’s a problem you can always tell me, right?”

Again, Billy did something that didn’t make much sense while talking to someone on the phone – he nodded slightly.

“Yes...” His voice was nothing more than a whisper but he knew Dom had understood anyway. They hadn’t needed any words at all back then...back in those times when they had been together more often than not, in those times when it hadn’t been complicated to spend some time together, when Billy had been able to touch, hug or even kiss Dom without feeling odd – back then before Dom had moved to LA and Billy’s relationship had become a farce because he had realized that he was in love with his best friend but to much of a coward to be honest about it.

And now it was too late.

“...was thinking we could all meet then?”

Billy was pulled out of his daydreams in quite a rude fashion when he noticed that Dom had been speaking all the time.

“Uhm...pardon? Had a bad connection there...”
At least this was good enough for an excuse, lame as it might be.

Dom didn’t seem to mind at all. Cheerfully, he repeated what he had just tried to tell.

“I’m coming over next week and I’m bringing Lena with me to introduce her to my parents. And I was just wondering if we could all meet then? We could come to Glasgow...”

It shocked the living senses out of Billy to hear this.

Of course, Dom had had some girls since he had moved to LA, but he had never brought one of them home. “Mum and Dad don’t have to know unless...it really does mean something.”

The words Dom had spoken a long time ago echoed in Billy’s mind as he mechanically started to talk.

“Sure...looking forward to it.”

The next second, he could have kicked himself for saying this.

He didn’t want to meet Lisa-Lena or whatever she’s called. He didn’t want to meet the girl who “really does mean something”. The one who was stealing his Dommie from him. He didn’t.

But he knew he’d have to if he didn’t want to take the risk of loosing Dom completely.

“Looking forward to it...” he repeated, begging for Dom to say something like: “Oh, Billy, I was just joking, there ain’t no Lena”, but instead he hears Dom’s voice which now sounds even more enthusiastic than before.

“That’s wonderful! I’ll let you know when we’ll be there, okay? But, look, I’ve gotta go. Lena and I will spend the night at home and I am allowed to pick the movies AND the snacks! See how nice she is, YOU just let me choose one of those when we had a night in. So...gotta do some serious thinking and shopping and stuff. Talk to you then...and see you next week, kay?”

“Hmhm...have a nice evening there...bye, Dom.” Billy managed to mumble before he hastily hung up.

For once he was glad Dom couldn’t see him now, for all he would have seen was a small figure sitting in the dark, knees drawn to his chin, clutching a bottle of Whiskey which found its way to trembling lips.

Billy had forgotten about his glass anywhere in the middle of the conversation and now he just swallowed and swallowed, holding on to the bottle for dear life, but he wasn’t feeling the familiar burn in his throat that had helped him get through so much during the last few months.

All he felt was the burning of his tears that were streaming freely down his cheeks.

I think it's wonderful to see a fic where it's *Billy* doing the pining, not *Dom*. Don't get me wrong, those sort of fics are fantastic too but I like this because it's different - and well written!

I look forward to reading more! :)
