You're naked inside your fear
You can't take back all those years
The shots in the dark from empty guns
Are never heard by anyone
Never heard by anyone
When Billy visited Dom in Lala land, he stole his mate's gun. Lord only knows why Dom even had a gun; it had no real purpose since it had no bullets in it or stored anywhere near it. Billy had asked discreet questions about it, about why anyone would ever need a gun when they could knock an intruder out with one punch. Dom had shrugged and told him that maybe they needed it for comfort.
At the time, Billy had found it insane - how could cold and greasy metal, something meant to cause death, how could that bring any comfort? But he had soon found out that it was just the idea that, should he ever need to, he had a way out.
So he sat on his bed, Alison next door in the shower. The sound of the water running was the theme tune to his drama, and his drama was Dom's fault. It was Dom's fault that he had gotten his hands on the gun in the first place. He weighed it on his palm silently, watching as the light that spilled from under the bathroom door caught the metal and reflected in different directions.
Now you may take this the wrong way; Billy didn't want to die, he just wanted to know he could and that he'd always have someone to blame when he did. It was Dom's fault - it was Dom's gun.
He span the cylinder and placed the muzzle at his temple. He pulled the trigger with no fear at all - Russian Roulette was pointless with all chambers empty.
When he had taken the gun he had been tempted to tell Dom, but he had held back. If he started telling him about the gun he'd tell him why he took it, which would inevitably lead to Billy telling Dom how he felt about him......how he had always felt about him.
So he kept his trap shut, and faded into the background hum and whir of LA.
When he got back to Scotland he almost told Alison about the gun, but he knew she'd never understand. Nobody would ever understand, because he had never talked about it before; so he had no idea where to start.
He span the cylinder again and placed the muzzle back at his temple, boom, money shot. He pulled the trigger on the empty chamber, whispering 'bang' into the darkness of the room.
Alison opened the bathroom door and didn't even notice him sitting there, gun cocked at his head. She walked right past him as if he wasn't even there; maybe he was invisible, maybe he really had faded into the background.
Billy layed the gun in his lap and smiled thinking, wonder if they'd notice if I was missing; wonder if they'd care; wonder if they'd take me seriously, should I ever raise my voice to complain.
He smiled fondly at the gun as a feeling of complete relaxation washed over him.
Dom would notice
Yeah I'm fadin
And I call out
No one hears me
Never been never felt never thought I'd say a word
