Unrequited love happens to teenagers, to school girls and boys with their first crush on one of the more popular kids - someone completely out of reach. Unrequited love does not happen to twenty-three-year-olds. It just....doesn't. Twenty-three-year-olds should fall in love with someone and be loved right back, after all, they haven't been a teenager for four years. But Dom finds himself pining like a teenager every day in feet, at breakfast, during makeup, whilst he gets dressed and completes the transformation into Merry. He then spends all day being Merry, and trying to make Merry come across a little bit less in love with his cousin, because he's fairly sure Tolkien didn't mean to make the pair quite as incestuous as they come across at times.

But said cousin is just that. He acts as Merry's cousin all day, the right expressions on his face, the right emotions in his eyes; completely oblivious to all the wrong things Merry keeps displaying. He then goes back through makeup and wardrobe and becomes Billy; which, Dom thinks, is even worse than Pippin. When they are Merry and Pippin, Dom can put all the emotions he displays down to acting, but at any other time he has absolutely no excuse for it, just like Billy has absolutely no excuse to be oblivious.
