With a shaky breath he took the offering, cradling it close to his chest, as he met the eyes that watched expectantly. “You sure?” Nerves plucked his voice, giving it a tinny waver that he’d not used in years. Upon receiving only a silent nod in reply he shrugged, slipping the leather strap across his back.
His gaze remained on his hands as they slowly stroked the strings, haltingly, as a tune throbbed his lips, a hum barely audible over the instruments song. A heated gaze rested on his back, and he looked up to meet slate blue eyes, curious, encouraging. He gave them a smile, as his fingers danced a little faster, more confidently filling the air with a haunting melody.
Usually he played with his eyes closed, letting the music guide him, but he found his eyes locked with the greyblue ones staring at him, dark as storm tossed seas, swimming with admiration, affection, and something deeper, more intense that tripped tingles down his spine.
He watched as they moved closer, till their owner was sat almost on his feet, looking up at him with the same intensity he knew swirled in his own. The notes waltzed around them, painting the air with soft delicate strokes.
Eventually the notes ceased their dance, fading until only the ghosts of what they once were remained, hanging motionless in his ears. “So what did you think?”
“It was…woah…Bill it was beautiful, amazing, the most wonderful thing I’ve ever heard…”
The Scot couldn’t help but smile at the compliments, but he saw there was something else weighing on his audience’s mind. “But?”
“Not really but….But when you said you’d written a song to say all the unsaid stuff…I kinda imagined there to be words?”
“I said it was ABOUT you. And you really think there are any words to say how I feel about you Dommie?”
