The heart is a very curious thing. Technically it’s a muscle. One that is capable of pumping blood to every point of the body. However unlike any of the other human muscles, it can feel emotions. It can feel joy, grief, contentment. When a heart is broken it feels like your world may end right then and there. When a heart is in love, the world could end and you could care less.

Cupids arrows often taken aim at the most star crossed of lovers. Lovers who will sacrifice anything to be together. Sometimes Cupids arrows miss altogether and those who belong together, never get to be. They never saw the potential for love in the person that was right in front of them.

I guess that’s where I come in. I know two people who were meant to be together and despite my subtle nudging, they remain friends, not lovers. I had to devise a plan. One that would make them realize what they’ve been missing.

Inspirations suddenly strikes. It’s bold, to say the least. But I’ve never backed away from a challenge. And to get these two together has been a bit of a challenge.

“I think I’m in love with Dom,” I tell a wide eyed Billy.

He shakes his head just a fraction of the way and I see the hint of horror in his eyes. I try to contain the giggles that were stuck far back in my throat.

“Wha-?” is all he can manage. I see his adams apple bob nervously in his throat. God, I hope he doesn’t vomit all over me.

“I’m in love with Dom,” I repeat.

He blinks hard once. Twice. And then he moves to the chair opposite me and sits down. His hands cover his face and rub the beads of sweat that have now formed. He clasps his hands together and gives a stare. Eyes like emeralds nearly freeing themselves of their sockets bare down upon me.

“When did this happen?” he has finally managed to put together a full sentence.

“I suppose it’s been a while coming.”

“Wha-? How? I mean this isn’t something I would have expected. Least of all from you.”

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to thank the Academy.

“I’m sorry Billy. I held myself back for as long as I could. But I had to tell someone or else I would burst.”

“That’s a might heavy secret.” Billy now gave me his stunned expression.

I could only hope the thoughts running through his mind were the ones I had hoped for.

“Well I never thought I would have a chance with him. But after observing for while. I think I might.”

His head cocked to the side and look of puzzlement crossed his face.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Here’s where I really make him think.

“Well you know? Dom being gay and all.” I make the little hand gesture universally known to prove my point.

“Gay?” His voice is raised and cracks a little.

“Yeah. Gay. I mean I thought it was obvious. I mean, well maybe my signals are crossed. You know him best. Is he or isn’t he?”

Billy sits back in his chair. I guess maybe he never really had thought about it. He scratches his head and shrugs his shoulders.

“Well?” I added.

“You know, it would explain a lot.”

“Don’t tell him I told you. I don’t think I am ready to pursue him yet.”

I grasp Billy’s shoulder as I get up and he nods slowly. As I walk away, I notice the look upon his face still shows confusion and deep thought.

I smile to myself knowing that this plan may indeed work.

Now I just have to talk to Dom.

"Dom?"

"Yeah?" He says as he lifts his ale to his lips.

"I think I'm in love with Billy."

He starts coughing and dribbles beer down the front of shirt. Actually I think it came out of his nose.

"Wha? What the hell you talking about?" He says as he sops the amber liquid from the table.

I try to pretend to go all shy and withdrawn and say the words again.

He stares at me. Head shaking and his bottom lip curled into his mouth.

"You know, I think I may have a shot now. With Bill being gay and all." - whoa deja vu`.

Dom's eyes grow larger then I think I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. The tips of his ears go red and I swear I saw smoke.

"Billy's not gay!" His voice is louder then I think he even expected it to be. "How could you say that? If there's one thing I know and that's Bills. He's not gay."

"Well, it's like he would tell you, Dom."

Dom's normally animated dance of frustration stops dead. He ponders. Eyes seems to search over some non existent script. He scratches at his chin and eyes finally resettle on me.

"Well I guess that would make sense that. Kinda puts a different spin on things."

"Well don't tell him about this. I'm not sure I'm ready to pursue him yet."

Just as I did with Billy, I give Dom's shoulder a gentle squeeze as I walk away. He subconsciously swipes me away, seemingly deep in thought.

I leave the pub in a fit of giggles that I had so long held. I planted the seeds. Time to water and watch them grow.

Now I had told both Billy and Dom not to tell each other, because I knew it would be exactly what they do. I swear they gossip more then women.

"hey."

"Hey."

They look at each other with a new eyes. Questioning eyes.

"Did you happen to run into--?"

"Yeah. I did."

"Did... was ... love mentioned?"

"Yeah. It was."

"oh."

"Yeah."
"Bills?"

"Yeah?"

"Why didn't you tell me? I would have understood."

"I was asked not to tell you. Besides I just found out."

Now you know they aren't talking about the same thing. Only they don't.

"Just found out? Really?"

"Yeah. I certainly did not see that coming. Quite the shock actually."

"You're telling me."

Awkward silence.

Now I supposed I should have walked away, let things happen. But I am too curious. I had to keep watching.

"Dom, are you ok with it?" Billy asked.
"I'm fine with it. Really. Just never though, never suspected."

"Yeah."

Billy sides closer to Dom. I can see the beads of sweat that have formed on his bottom lip. He swipes his tongue eagerly and his eyes widen.

"Dom?"

"Yeah?"

He itches ever closer. Their shapes blur into one another, hips touching, shoulders rubbing together.

"Would it have been so bad to have told your best mate?"

"Bills. Come on. It's never everyday you find out that one of your best mates is gay. I mean how does one react to that?"

It was at this moment, I saw the ultimate goal in my plan fulfilled.

Tension was rampant. Billy wasn't the one I expected to make the first move. But there he was. Lips locked with Dom. Dom who first appeared wide eyed, soon fell into the kiss.

Deeply passionate. Hands exploring each other. Muffled groans of a pleasurable kind.

Pulling away, tongues still wagging, they look at each in total amazement. Dom’s eyes fiercely intent on Billy. Mouth was slightly agape.

“What the hell was that?” He licked his lips, striving to taste the remains of the kiss, or his mouth was just very dry.

“I’m sorry. I dunno what it was. I was just–“ Billy backed away from Dom. He blushed immensely.

Dom steps closer to him. Backs him right into the corner and brushes against him. He pulls one of Billy’s hands into his own and brings it up to his chest. He placed it over his heart and caught Bill’s gaze. Dom’s other went up to caress Billy’s cheek.

“Don’t apologize. Please.”

“Dom. I... I dunno know what to say.”

“Then don’t talk,” Dom miles as he leans in for another kiss.

I smile to myself as I walk away. I think my work here is done. I ponder who I should aim my arrows at next.
