Thanks:
silentnumbsmoke for advising me in writing my first Monaboyd fic.
Warnings: Kinda fluffy... this part is just the introduction to the real story... and such.
Disclaimer: I own no one. THIS IS ALL FAKE.
Feedback: Please sir, I want some more!
Summary: An incident in the toy store.
Notes: Not sure exactly how many chapters this is going to be, but I do have most of this planned out. Will write as regularly as possible. Hope you like!
"Shite… We forgot to call Sean to tell him we'll be late to the party," said Billy.
"I'll go call him; you start looking for a present."
Billy nodded at Dom, who was on his way out the toy store's door. Billy looked towards a pink kaleidoscope of Barbies, and decided warily not to head down that aisle. When he was scanning a shelf of stuffed animals, he felt a tugging at the leg of his pants. He looked down at the most darling little red haired girl he'd ever seen. Her fiery curls were done up in pigtails, which bounced as she turned her head up to look at him.
"Pippin!" she shouted gleefully as a look of wonder and joy stretched her face into a huge grin. Billy smiled and knelt down next to her.
"That's right! And what's your name?"
"I'm Nicole, and I am four and a half years old!" She held up four fingers and bent her thumb half way. "You're a lot taller than I thought. And you cut your hair! And you're wearing SHOES!"
Billy couldn't help but laugh out loud. "I'm only Pippin in the movies. My real name is Billy."
"Billy?? That's my brothers name! He's seven years old. How old are you?"
"Thirty-five."
"THIRTY-FIVE? You're almost as old as my MOM!!" she cried in disbelief.
Billy wiped the tears from his eyes and tried to stifle his laughter. "Speaking of whom, where is your mum?"
"I don't know," said Nicole, as the smile ran away from her face.
"Are you lost? When did you see her last?"
"A little while ago… We were walking and I went into the toy store and I don't know where she is," she said, as calm as any lost four year-old could be. She looked up and her eyes brightened, and she squealed, "Merry!!"
"Hullo!" Dom yelped, surprised, as she clung to his leg. "Who's your friend, Bills?"
"This is Nicole. Nicole, this is Dominic."
"Merry! He cut his hair too!"
"Isn't she precious?" Dom patted her on the head.
"She's also lost," Billy mentioned.
Dom picked her up and held her weight against his hip. "Lost? Well we'd better find your parents right away!"
"You'll help me find my mommy?"
"Of course we will! Well, Dom, she said that she was with her walking down the street not too long ago, so she may still be nearby. Let's go!"
The three of them walked hand in hand out the door and down the sidewalk; one would have thought it was The Wizard of Oz - the curly-haired girl traveling between two taller men. They went round the corner, and to their pleasant surprise, ran into a frantic red head pulling her seven year-old son by the hand.
"NICOLE!" she screamed, scooping her daughter into her arms.
"Mommy!! Look! I found Merry and Pippin and they helped me find you!" she squealed, pointing to her new friends. Dom and Billy looked at each other smiling, then at Nicole's mother.
"Thank you so much for finding my Nikki. I was going crazy trying to find her on this busy street!"
"No problem at all," said Dom. "We were lucky to find you so soon!"
"Yeah, she was in no danger," Billy interrupted. "Just looking around in the toy store over there. And you must be Billy," he said, looking down at the boy hiding shyly behind his mother's dress. "I'm Billy, too. Nice to meet you!" Little Billy waved and looked down at the cement.
"Go on, say hello," said his mother. "He acts shy, but he really loves you two in your movies. Plays with his Merry and Pippin action figures every day." The child nodded and smiled up at the two whom he adored. "Well we've got to be going. How can I ever thank you enough for what you've done??"
"No thanks needed," Dom started. "It was our pleasure to meet your precious little Nicole." She beamed at him, ever so happy to have met her favourite hobbits.
"Ah, Dom… Don't forget we still have to get Ali's birthday present…"
"The party starts in 10 minutes!"
"Well, we'll let you go then. Thank you again, I am so grateful to you," Nicole's mum started again.
"You're welcome. It was very nice meeting you all," said Billy as he waved to the children. "Bye Nicole! Bye Billy!"
