Apologies are hard to make. Forgiveness is hard to give. And when combined…they are damn near impossible.
Lying on his back, Dom stares into the velvet darkness. An occasional twinkle of starlight draws his eyes back and forth across the sky. The world is silent. City sounds are absent. No impatient car horns, no roaring sirens.
With a sigh, he shuts his eyes. Dom doesn’t like silence; it leaves him alone with his thoughts. And he doesn't like what he thinks.
He had been too quick. To quick in his actions, he acted rashly.
Footsteps. Eyes open slightly.
“Billy.”
“Dom…”
“Dom…”
Billy stands over Dom. The drizzle swirls around them, cold droplets sending shivers down his spine. Dom’s face is hidden, the darkness blanketing his features.
“Billy.” The response comes somewhere from below, cold, unfeeling and Billy cringes away from the voice.
“It wasn’t supposed to happen.” Billy says, giving a half-hearted attempt to explain his actions.
No reply.
Frustration creeps in. “Jesus Dom! What do you want?”
Again there is no reply and Billy tries to stop the tears that are flooding his eyes.
Then, a single word spoken with a slight quaver. “You.”
Billy shuts his eyes, defeated.
“Just forget about it, please Dom, just forget.” Billy is pleading with him, begging.
He turns away, faces the window. “How can you ask that of me?” He asks quietly. “After everything we had, how can you just stand there and ask me to forget?”
Billy hangs his head. “I love her.” He says in a whisper.
He chuckles, the numbness setting in. Running his finger along the edge of the countertop he tilts his head slightly. “You said that about me once.”
Billy remains silent behind him.
“So I’m supposed to let these memories fade away into nothing?”
“…please.”
