Author's Notes: Some of this was inspired by the BBC interview Billy and Dom gave before the Oscars. Summary: Billy and Dom have come to a conclusion.

Billy and Dom spent the rest of the day making love and reminiscing about better times. Mostly about time spent in New Zealand. Nights spent alone or with the rest of the fellowship. The nights they all spent in Dom’s trailer playing drinking games and discussing their dreams and fears.

Billy lay on his back holding Dom close. Dom had his head resting on Billy’s chest. They were both naked and somewhat exhausted from their lovemaking. Billy kept entertaining the idea of taking a nap, but then Dom would start talking about something and they would get lost in the moment.

Dom giggled and lifted his head to look at Billy. “Do you remember that time Lijah got so drunk that we were able to convince him that Orlando used to be a woman?”

Billy’s eyes lit up and he began to laugh hysterically. “Oh man, he was so sure that he almost had us convinced by the end of the night! Oh God, and remember when Orlando DID finally show up and Lijah couldn’t take his eyes off him?”

Both men laughed until they had tears in their eyes.

Dom continued through his laugher, “And remember Orlando getting all freaked ‘cause Lijah was looking him up and down?” Dom had lain back on the bed next to Billy grasping Billy’s arm as they laughed.

Billy was wiping tears from his face, trying to catch his breath. “And then Lij didn’t even remember the next day! Oh man, took us days to convince Orlando that Lij was not coming on to him!”

Dom rolled to his side holding his stomach laughing. Billy curled up behind him wrapping his arm around Dom’s waist. Billy kissed the nape of Dom’s neck and said, “We really had it all, didn’t we mate?”

Dom squeezed Billy’s hand and replied, “Yes, we did. Love, laughter and friendship. How do you get that back, huh? I mean even if we had been able to work things out between us, filming still stopped. Cast went their separate ways. I wanted us all to stay there in New Zealand; discovering our friendships.”

Billy smiled and pressed himself closer to Dom. “I know love. I know. But, we can’t stop the world around us. I wish we could.”

Dom rolled over to face Billy. “If you were deserted on a tropical island, who would you want with you?”

Billy smirked at Dom and said, “Why do you ask hypothetical questions like that Dommie?”

Dom smiled and shrugged, “Dunno, just curious. Come on. Who?”

Billy thought for a moment then said, “Hmmm, let’s see…couldn’t be Lijah, I’d kill him after two days. Orlando would suffer shock without a mirror, Viggo would do nicely. Bet he could build a hell of a shelter!”

Dom poked Billy in the ribs and pouted.

Billy’s eyes twinkled. “Oh, did you want to stay on the island with me? Hmm, well I suppose that would work, too. No prying eyes, no careers to worry about, just you, me and paradise.” Billy kissed Dom lovingly on the lips.

Dom smiled softly at Billy. “That would be paradise,” Dom laughed and added, “We would have rocking chairs right?”

Billy laughed as he glanced over at the clock and was shocked it had gotten so late. “Shit! I have to be in Santa Monica in 2 hours.” Billy kissed Dom on the cheek and jumped out of bed and got into a shower.

Dom lay there for awhile smiling. He knew Billy had plans with the people from Master and Commander, and he was not invited. “That’s OK,” he thought, “I’d be all over him anyway.”

Billy ran out of the house about an hour later, kissing Dom and telling him he would probably be late. Dom sat in the living room thinking about the past 24 hours. He was happy he had had this time with Billy. He was sitting back with his eyes closed remembering how good it felt to be in Billy’s arms again, when he heard the ring of a cell phone.

Dom sat up and looked around. It wasn’t his cell phone, his had a totally different ring. As he looked around he saw Billy’s phone on the end table. Dom smiled and said, “Daft bugger will be lost without this.” Dom picked up the phone and answered it.

“William Boyd’s phone. Dominic Monaghan at your service.” Dom was chuckling as he spoke.

Dom stopped laughing as a distinctive Scottish female accent replied, “Um, Dom, it’s Ali. Where is Bill?”

“Oh, hi Ali. He just left to meet up with Peter Weir and that group. He forgot his phone. He was running late.” Dom felt his heart pounding.

“Dom, where are you?”

“My house, why?”

“Why is Bill’s phone at your house and not in his hotel room if he was running late?” Her tone was full of suspicion. Hotel? Dom suddenly knew who Billy had been lying to.

“He stopped by before heading out for the night. Laid it on the table. You know how absent minded Bills can be.” Dom tried to sound nonchalant.

“Oh, well, yes. I was hoping to talk to him, I guess I’ll leave a message at the hotel for him. He never told me which one he was at, do you know?”

Dom knew she was fishing for information. Dom decided his best course of action was to get out of this lie Billy had backed himself into. He did his best imitation of static and told her, “Ali, you’re cutting out. I’ll tell him you called. Talk to you later.”

If Dom could have slammed the phone he would have. Instead he pressed the end button with extra force.

“Fuckin` Billy!” Dom felt like shit. He hated that he had just played a part in hurting Ali. He hated that he was now hurting. He hated Billy for not telling her the truth. He hated that it was the night before the Oscars and he was storming through his house to the liquor cabinet intent on getting drunk.

~

Billy was laughing and sharing a drink with Sean Connery. He wished Dom could be there with him. He knew that bringing Dom would have been a mistake, as Dom would not have kept his hands to himself. Still, he knew Dom would have gotten a kick out of meeting the original 007.

Billy excused himself and went into the bathroom. He reached for his cell phone to call Dom, and realized he had left it at Dom’s. “Damn,” Billy thought, “I really wanted to hear his voice.” Billy shrugged, took a piss and joined the party.

~

Dom sat on the deck drinking vodka and thinking about his relationship with Billy. He felt guilty for having made love to Billy while Ali sat at home thinking Billy was at a hotel; thinking Billy loved only her. Dom knew Billy loved him. He also knew Billy loved her.

Dom could not offer Billy the same things as Ali. He thought back to Billy’s remark about the two of them ending up in New Zealand old and in rocking chairs. He smiled and laughed. The mental image of him and Billy old, sitting in rocking chairs and arguing over taking the garbage out amused him. Dom knew that the timing was all wrong for them. He would have to wait out the clock.

Dom walked into the living room noticing the time. It was midnight. He glanced over at Billy’s phone. He grabbed a piece of paper and pen.

He scrawled out a note then placed it under Billy’s phone.

Bills;

You’re in trouble, again. Ali called your cell phone, and like a fool I answered. She was not amused. She wanted to know what hotel you were staying at. I don’t think she bought my impression of static. You’d better fix this mate.

Dom

Dom sighed, and made his way to his room.

Billy stumbled into Dom’s house two hours later. He was somewhat drunk and horny as hell. He was making a bee line for Dom’s bedroom, when he saw his cell phone and the note.

“Shit!” Billy grumbled as he read the note. Why had he been so stupid to tell her a lie? “To protect her,” he thought.

He had told Ali about his past with Dom. Well, sort of. He had not told her they had been lovers, that he would always love Dom and that he planned on spending the last few years of his life with him in New Zealand. OK, so he had not really told her anything other than he had never felt closer to another person in his life. That had been enough for her to be jealous and be somewhat suspicious of Dom.

Billy walked down the hall to the guestroom as he dialed Ali’s number.

~

Dom woke to Billy’s voice. He got out of bed and headed for the hall. As he put his hand on the doorknob he could hear Billy clearly. Billy voice trailed somewhat as he walked into the guestroom, but Dom could hear everything.

“Well, it was just easier to stay here, love. I just didn’t want to upset you.” Billy paused listing to Ali.

“Yes, Dom does need to work on his impression of static. I’ll be sure to tell him.”

Dom leaned his head against the door and smiled. At least Ali had a sense of humor.

“No my love, of course I miss you. Yes, I love you too. Goodnight.”

At hearing Billy say those words to another, Dom felt his heart cramp. Within 48 hours Billy would once again be out of his life, and back with her.

Dom opened the door slowly and saw Billy standing in his room looking down at his phone. Billy looked up and looked into Dom’s eyes. He could see the hurt. The same hurt he heard in Ali’s voice. He felt like a royal prick.

“Dom, I’m sorry.”

Dom walked into Billy’s room and asked, “Why did you lie to her, Bills?”

Billy sighed and sat on the bed. He needed to tell Dom. He needed to make sure Dom understood about Ali. He needed to make sure Dom was not going to do anything in front of the cameras tomorrow to upset Ali.

Dom stood in front of Billy waiting for an answer.

Billy looked at his shoes as he said, “Dom, I never told her about us. I never told her how we felt for one another, although she does suspect. She’s a smart woman. I lied because I didn’t want her to worry about what I might be doing. Hell, what I WAS doing.”

Billy looked up at Dom, “I don’t want to hurt her anymore than I want to hurt you. But, Dom, I will be going back to her. Please promise me you won’t do anything tomorrow to upset her. OK?”

Dom was hurt. He understood, but he was hurt. He took a deep breath and said, “So what? No big wet kiss on the red carpet Boyd? No ass grab for the cameras? What do you think I am?”

Billy was shaking his head and Dom was getting pissed. “You know what Billy? FUCK YOU!”

Dom stormed into his room. He knew Billy had every right to ask him to behave, but he was still hurt. If Billy wanted Dom to stay away so his precious girlfriend could feel secure, then that is what Billy would get!

~

Billy and Dom stayed clear of each other the next morning. Billy went for a surf and Dom painted his fingernails and started drinking vodka early. The limo was picking them up at noon.

By 11:30 Dom was somewhat drunk and Billy was still surfing.

At 11:45 Dom was pulling himself into his suit and Billy was rushing a shower.

The limo had to wait 10 minutes for them. Both men jumped into the limo only to be greeted by a pair of glares from Elijah and Sean.

Elijah eyed Dom and asked, “Are you drunk?”

Dom glared back and said, “No, Doodle, I’m extremely happy, OK?”

Elijah and Sean exchanged looks and looked at Billy. Billy was looking out the window at nothing in particular.

Sean sighed and thought, “This is going to be tense.”

~

Billy and Dom gave an interview to the BBC and Dom almost made a mistake. They were discussing Billy’s talk with Sean Connery when Dom caught himself saying something Ali would take wrong.

Billy was saying that Mr. Connery suggested he beef up and Dom eyed Billy’s body as he said, “No, your beef is fine…”

The look on Billy’s face was caught by the reporter who quickly took over the conversation.

Then the chin grab incident took place. Dom was lost in the moment of the red carpet. He was with his fellow hobbits. He was hamming for the cameras, and he was next to Billy. He looked at Billy’s chin. Billy had rushed shaving and had missed a spot. All Dom wanted to do was touch the stubble there.

“Get off!” Billy barked at him as he touched him.

Dom knew he had made a mistake. Damn his attraction to everything Billy. He knew that Billy would now stay far away from him. Dom was right.

They played the part of friends, but Billy was noticeably separated from Dom for the rest of the night. Dom proceeded to drown his sorrows with liquor and adoring fans.

At some point at the last party late in the night, Dom noticed Billy was no where in sight. He asked Elijah where Billy had gotten off to, and Elijah looked down at his feet.

Dom drew in a quick breath. “He left didn’t he?”

Elijah looked up at Dom with his big sorrowful eyes, “I’m sorry Dom. He said he needed to get out of your place and back home.”

Dom cursed himself for not being able to control himself. Elijah put his arms around Dom and whispered, “I’m so sorry Dom.”

Dom hugged Elijah back and whispered back, “Thanks Lij. Come drink with me, OK?”

Five days after the Oscars, Dom was sitting in his living room looking over a script his agent had sent him. The doorbell rang and Dom welcomed the distraction.

He opened the door to find a young man with a clipboard. “Mr. Monaghan?”

Dom nodded and said, “Yes?”

“I have a delivery for you. Please sign here.” He handed Dom the clipboard and turned to the delivery truck and waved his hand.

Dom signed on the dotted line and looked up. What he saw made him grin ear to ear.

Another young man was backing out of the truck carrying a rather large wooded rocking chair. He carried it up to Dom and handed Dom an envelope. Dom asked him to carry it out to the deck.

Dom thanked the men and walked them to the front of the house and watched as they climbed into their truck and pulled away. Dom walked back to the deck and smiled at the rocking chair.

It was dark wood, large and quite comfortable as Dom discovered as he sat in it. He opened the envelope and read the note inside:

Dearest Dommie:

I hope this meets your expectations. Take care of it, as this is the only one I will buy you. If you need another when we get to New Zealand, you are on your own.

Love, Your Bills

P.S. Just for the record: It’s your turn to take out the garbage.

Dom smiled as he rocked in his chair knowing that at some point in the future, he would have Billy again.
